Avatar f tn Both Alesse and Yasmin are good for PCOS. I have been prescribed both by different PCOS specialists. I've been told that Yasmin (in combination with aldactone and propecia) is particularly good for combatting hair loss. Depending on your symptoms, you should go with the one that makes you feel best.
Avatar f tn I took Yasmin for 5 years I was diagnosed with PCOS about 7 years ago.. I have been off for almost 2 years trying to concieve. Yasmin does help..my face was completely clear and had no hair growth.. since being off my acne has just gotten worse each month. Give it a try..it took a few months but it got extremely clear.
Avatar n tn Your right. Yasmin is mostly given to those who suffer from PCOS because it works best with our bodies. Although some ladies have found Yasmin not helpful to them. To me it's a lower dose of bc, which helps to lessen side affects such as breakthrough bleeding.
Avatar n tn I have PCOS and have been on Yasmin BCP for like 6 years to control my PCOS symptoms. The reproductive endocrinologist told me Yasmin is the gold standard for PCOS patients because the drospirenone works best in mitigating the symptoms of high testosterone like acne and hair growth. Well my gyn nurse practitioner called and I guess there is new evidence out that Yasmin is causing causes more blood clots than other BCPs, and this is a risk that increases as you get older.
Avatar f tn Metformin and some type of birth control pill are normally the treatments of pcos. I've had pcos since (and maybe longer) 2007 and have been on metformin 500mg 2x since Jan of this year, plus I'm on Yasmin bc pills. Yasmin, like luisa24 said is the best form of bc pills for pcos. It also helps great if you suffer from mild acne breakouts. To answer your question about the side affects after you stopped treatment, well that i cannot answer.
704655 tn?1228685706 Hi, I was diagnosed in Sept 08' with PCOS. I have experienced PCOS symptoms for over 14 years and was never diagnosed until recently. I was prescribed Yasmin in November and I have noticed a significant difference with the hyperpigmentation that I was also experiencing. I am also using bleaching/lightening products to rid myself of the hyperpigmentation caused by the out of control hormones. I believe that the combination of Yasmin and the lightening products are FINALLY working together.
Avatar f tn Try Yasmin (and if you cant take hormones, try the Copper IUD). Yasmin works well with PCOS, plus you can still lose wegith while on Yasmin. Your PCOS is causing your abnormal bleeding. You could also have cysts too. Have you had an ultrasound recently?
Avatar f tn I would say to try the pill out for a few months, like 3 UNLESS your symptoms get worse. The body needs time to adjust to any bcp and 3 months is the normal. I'm on Yasmin too and never had any problems with it. Yasmin is one of the top bcp that is given to woman with pcos because most woman can tolerate it better then other bcp. The only thing I've found while taking Yasmin (and I think this goes for ALL bcp) it raises my blood pressure a little.
Avatar n tn There is also increased risk of insulin resistance, hypertension, and abnormalities of cholesterol and triglycerides in women with PCOS. Due to these risks, we advise our patients with PCOS to have the complete metabolic assessment with complete lipid panel testing and a two hour glucose tolerance test. Your daughter should have a complete hormone work up including total testosterone, DHEAS and 17-OH progesterone and also be tested for prediabetes or diabetes.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with pcos, I always cramp even when I am off my cycle. I have been having a lot clear discharge and some days its thick. Its been going on pretty much pass two months. I have been checked for stds and I am clean. I have never had discharge until this year and I am 21 years old, and no kids (never been pregnant). I was on Sprintec 28 tab 28 day barr labs (birth control) for about a month and thats when discharge increased. Is this normal?
Avatar f tn Ok so I started my cycle on the 19th after 5 months of not having one (PCOS) Anyways, when I was intially diagnosed about a yr or 2 ago doctor's prescribed me birth control but I never took it. I am now thinking of starting it to try to get myself regulated. The pill is Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo. Any ladies on it or have been on it? Any advice?
864198 tn?1239188205 t get sick. Also try Yasmin. Yasmin is a low dose bc pill, works great for me. I had no breakthrough bleeding or side effects. Also if you have acne (i did) Yasmin is a good pill that will help clear your breakouts. Good luck on this and if you ever need any other info, just let me know and i'll try to help!
Avatar f tn I was wondering if anyone can advise or has had similar affects. I have come off Yasmin in June as I wanted to have a rest and give my body a chance to have natural periods again. I had a period 5 weeks after then 4 week then at 3 weeks after and waiting to see what happens this month. I know it will take a while to average out but I have not really had any other symptoms apart from being bloated.
Avatar f tn i went to the doc. today and he told me i had pcos but has not started me on any meds yet. i am in a lot of pain. is there anything that will help for the time being?
Avatar f tn I am only 14 and I have been diagnosed with PCOS. I'm usually a fun, energetic person but learning that I have PCOS has worried me slightly. Is there anyone else young who has this problem as well?
Avatar f tn You're asking if taking the emergency contraceptive two times in a week was a waste because it wouldn't be effective the second time? That seems like a moot point now, since you did it. If you want to find out if this method will have a chance of not working, you could ask your doctor or a pharmacist. Unfortunately, while you will get an answer to your question, you might also have to listen to them telling you that what you did was a terrible idea.
Avatar f tn I have a serious question. I have PCOS and have been on clomid, femara, metformin etc. now my doctor wants to put me on birth control, which what ever, nothing else has worked why not try it again. But my concern is the type of birth control that it is. YAZ!!! I have done very little research about it but what I have found shows that there are more people out there that have negative things to say about it.
Avatar f tn thanks...I have not tried Yasmin, I'm not sure they'll give it to me because I used to smoke. I guess I need to try and find a doctor that knows a lot about PCOS. I don't have acne, but definitely a weight issue and a fertility issue, and obviously a hormonal one.
Avatar n tn The excess hair on the face can be reduced by the laser hair removal...however, I do not think any insurance will cover the cost of it seeing they have it listed under "cosmetic". I've heard of hair removal creams I think it's called Vanic (sp?). That can be given by a dermotolgist. Metformin should help, it's one of the most common given medications for those who have PCOS. I take that along with Yasmin bc.
Avatar n tn Weight gain? Anything else that might indicate PCOS? Have the doctor see her so that they can run some tests, maybe an ultrasound or something. Good luck, honey.
Avatar f tn I have pcos .Doctor didnt tell me anything about it though. My main concern to ask you is when I have a day where I eat carbs like a normal person can do I have to urinate every 20 mins and all through night too causing painful bladder ,also pee is clear like water ,I get a dry mouth ,often shake and the next day Ive lost 3lbs in water weight and need to drink so much that day. Is this dangerous ? Thankyou for your time reading this.
797256 tn?1237636468 Hello, I am writing because I have lots of symptoms of PCOS and 5 years ago I went through fertiltiy and found that I have PCOS, but now 5 years later I had my hormone levels taken just by family doctor and they say they are normal but what is normal. Can anyone help me? I don't have periods, I grow hair in places you don't want and more here are the lab results from lab. Estradiol (estrogen) 26 pg/mL FSH 5.0 mIU/mL LH 12.2 mIU/mL These are the ones they have done. What does this mean?
Avatar m tn Hello. Please, I've been diagnosed with PCOs in December 2016 and, since then, I've been taking birth control pills (as a form of contraception in my long-term relationship and as a treatment in itself). Because I am very afraid of getting pregnant and really do not want kids, I take my pill religiously. I've been considering getting an IUD because I feel there are less things that could happen to mess with my contraception if I had one.
1266083 tn?1358564062 Okay, here's the deal. I started having the "montly visit" when I was 11. For 2 years, it was irregular and when I was 13, it just STOPPED all together. I had no period for about 3 years when a doctor FINALLY diagnosed me with PCOS at the age of 16, and did a "vaginal probe" (I hate the sound of that word, haha) and found "hundreds of little cysts" on my ovaries. Well, I was then put on Yasmin and Glucophage.
