Common Questions and Answers about Yasmin for menopause

Avatar f tn Yasmin was recomended to me by my doctor and other doctors because it is very effective medication for endometriosis and it is not like the other medications that makes you go into condition of early menopause. I was 19 years old when I had lap and Yasmin was the best solution for me. It helped me to make the endometriosis process stop for a while and it made the cysts not to grow rapidly.
Avatar n tn I have been in menopause since I was 23 yr old, now i am 29. I still don't have the swing of it. I was given "yasmin" to help me with my menopause. I am balding and losing so much hair its scary. It is now noticeable and I don't know what to do! I am always tired, depressed and my skin is starting to droop. I would be perfectly fine with aging naturally at the appropriate age but I'm not!
682098 tn?1236908245 I was on birth control for years and used in continuously for months at a time (Yasmin) and it didn't stop my endometriosis.
869854 tn?1239978206 I have been off the pill for years. I had no luck with the copper iud for 4 years hormone free but the bleeding never go less and the duration never did either. The nuva ring made me depressed tried that for 4 mnths after the iud. I am 39 and my hormones are changing greatly my which they say can happen at this age. my normal periods all my life are changing to every 21 day last period came 109 days later. My GYNsuggeseted the pill. Even though I am against hormones.
Avatar f tn It has only been the past few years that my body has seemed to finally be regulated properly. (I had been on Yasmin for a few years and even after I stopped taking it I kept having regular periods) So, even though I am an intelligent human being, I've never really had to deal with the whole hormone issue and never paid much attention to the whole cycle of things. Things have changed and now I am trying to understand the entire process. I'm a late bloomer, what can I say.
5121963 tn?1363905257 I had smaller problems with my left ovary, so after the lap and in the next 5 years I was on YASMIN pills for stopping the endo from growing. After these 5 years I had a punctuation done, because one of the cysts became bigger and after that I was on ZOLADEX shots for six months (in a condition of menopause - awful side effects!!!). After that I started with Yasmin again and stopped after one years in order to TTC.
Avatar n tn It is possible to have a baby, don't worry! Talk to your doctor about Yasmin - this medication can help, but it depends of your condition. Have you talked to your doctor about some kind of treatments? I had laparoscopy done three years ago, but my situation with endometriosis was serious, and after that I started taking Yasmin (i did't felt any side effects that were serious). After the lap, I lost my right ovary, but I am still able to have a baby. So, don't worry about that.
Avatar n tn m new to the community, see you posted last month. I was on Yasmin, I think its related to Yaz but not the same for about two years. I had some really odd symptoms with Yasmin and begged my dr to take me off of it, since then I was on Apri, which is just generic desogen.
Avatar f tn How long does it take for oestrogen levels to go back up again I am taking Yasmin my doctor thought this was the best option. Is there much difference in the oestrogen in this pill and HRT? Dec 08 FSH 17 Oest 827, Oct 10 FSH 101 Oest 125 Prog 13,Nov 10 FSH 97.8 LH 47.8,Oest 76 I have been on been on different forms of the pill all year why are levels still low?
Avatar n tn So I had a puncture done (they sucked the cysts and the blood). I took different medications, I experienced menopause for six months (I was taking Zoladex shots) and I am still taking Yasmin pills, untill I decide to try to get pregnant. You are not in menopause if you have just one ovary. With one ovary you can get pregnant and you will have periods, so one ovary can function alone in all non-menopause processes.
Avatar n tn Since than I am on Yasmin birth control pills, I had one punctuation and been on Zoladex shots for six months (that makes you go into an early menopause) because my left ovary is also problematic. Unless you have serious problems and risks, I wouldn't recomend removing both ovaries. It will change your hormones and that's not so pleasent. With one ovary I don't feel so good, there are side-effects, it's not natural.
Avatar f tn Yes - can imbalance hormones, and same as "menopause" can affect you in how you think sometimes. Speak to your doctor about it and I would suggest getting a "hormone panel" done.
Avatar f tn I was sick and on antibiotics so took yasmin double dose for 2 days only. The midcycle bothered me but now it seems to subside. Taking pills was a mistake, and being irregular even bigger. I agree with your point. I think we shouldnt be experimenting with our systems when all is in order. Thanks for your advice and kind words.
430820 tn?1218247866 Hi. It's me again. Dont't worry! Doctors can somethimes make a big deal of something, but it's not always the way it seems to be! I had lap done when I was 19 years old and I lost my right ovary. But after that i was taking some medications (YASMIN) for two years. This medications are recomended, because they don't cause signs of early minopause! They kept my left ovary in condition without endometriosis.
456874 tn?1218139741 My insurance will only cover for the generic of Yasmin-does anyone know if it is as effective?
698575 tn?1229608278 Hi. I was on Yasmin three years, after that I was on Zoladex and now I am on Yasmin again. I don't know for sure, but I think that Yasmin prevents ovulation and it makes harder for sperm to reach uterus (it is harder for the fertilized egg to attach to the uterus). I have read this: The primary mechanism of Yasmin is inhibition of ovulation.
Avatar n tn I would use additional protection the first month just in case because there could be differences between the type of birth control you were taking before ranging from a different hormone to a different dosage. It's always best to err on the side of caution.
Avatar f tn (on saturday the 9th) And am now on week 3 of yasmin. my period is due this week. Do i continue taking yasmin? or should i stop taking it and start again on the first day of my period?
Avatar f tn So I hear (and I have also read) that yasmin is AWESOME for women with PCOS.. Any comments? I am about to switch from alesse to yasmin but I am nervous because there have been many birth control pills that give me uncontrollable mood swings, anxiety and depression. Alesse has been okay for me, not the best, but ok. Does anyone else experience this when they take birth control pills? I think that it is related very closely to PCOS.
Avatar f tn I took Yasmin for 5 years I was diagnosed with PCOS about 7 years ago.. I have been off for almost 2 years trying to concieve. Yasmin does help..my face was completely clear and had no hair growth.. since being off my acne has just gotten worse each month. Give it a try..it took a few months but it got extremely clear.
Avatar f tn I was on Yasmin for about a year before stopping to have my son. It worked well at that time. Then I went back on it Jan 2007. Had to go back off of it b/c of blood clots in lungs. All the doctors say it ws due to the birth control pills.
473222 tn?1214439873 Reading all of the posts on another part of this forum elated to yasmin and yaz is very scary. My life has been seriously affected by taking yasmin for four years. If I only knew back then what I know now. Please consider the long term effects of taking any birth control pill, not just yasmin or yaz. They primarily work by putting your ovaries to sleep. The pill shuts down your own natural production of hormones and replaces them with lab manufactured hormones.
Avatar f tn Years ago I started having problems with bleeding between periods. My gyno said hormonal, take the pill. Two years ago I stopped taking the pill, had spotting consistently every month about day 20, continuing until I got my period. This past October I decided to take birth control again because all the spotting was not doing much for my relationship. I went to PP because I'm unemployed and no insurance. First they put me on progestin only because I'm over 35 and I smoked at the time.
Avatar n tn I've bin taking Yasmin for over a year and planning to fall pregnant early next year ( before March), How soon can I stop taking them?
Avatar m tn On my experience, and after being for a long time on the pill, I can say that, if you still want to try the pill, you should look for the one that suits you. I never did well on Yasmin for example, but there was another who worked for me. My doctor wanted to put me again on the pill again and suggested a pill with a very low dose of hormones, maybe that would work for you...you would have to discuss with your doctor. Again, in my case, it took me about three months before my hormones leveled.
