Common Questions and Answers about Yasmin bcp

Avatar n tn But I thought I would ask, is anyone that has PCOS symptoms (high testosterone, insulin resistance) and on BCP on any other BCP besides Yasmin, and does it control PCOS symptoms? Have you seen any side effects?
Avatar f tn I would say to try the pill out for a few months, like 3 UNLESS your symptoms get worse. The body needs time to adjust to any bcp and 3 months is the normal. I'm on Yasmin too and never had any problems with it. Yasmin is one of the top bcp that is given to woman with pcos because most woman can tolerate it better then other bcp. The only thing I've found while taking Yasmin (and I think this goes for ALL bcp) it raises my blood pressure a little.
Avatar n tn Could it be that since my heart palpation symptoms did not start until I stopped taking BCP, that the pills were actually helping to control these symptoms?? I have read that BCP sometimes are perscribed to treat heart palpations..
Avatar f tn I gain weight very easily usually and struggle to maintain it off, but Yasmin never caused any problems in this respect, I'd say on the contrary. Spironolactone which is used to treat hirsutism or hair loss is a diuretic, and therefore it will actually help you not to retain water (I have this problem). These are the most common approaches and none of these will lead to weight gain.
473222 tn?1214439873 I hate to think of any other women going through the terrible long term side effects that hormonal contraception can cause. For any woman taking yasmin or other bcp for skin problems etc, please consider that if you are having those problems, then it is because you have a hormonal imbalance. It will not be fixed by adding in a hormone (Artificial estrogen or progestegin) that is completely different to your own.
587778 tn?1261397118 Well I'm on both side of the fences now. I was taking birth control (yasmin) along with Metformin. I took bc for a little over a year on it's own and had no problems. Then in September 2008 I started Metformin 500mg 1x a day along with my bcp. In Jan 2009 I upped the dose of Metformin to 2x a day per my doctor. I stopped my bcp in August 2009 and now am just taking Metormin 500mg 2x a day. So far it seems to be working on it's own.
730826 tn?1317943334 Though its not every week like when I was on yasmin, nuva ring still makes me get sick every month and a half-ish. Im real close to going back to the crossed fingers over the crossed legs method. Worked for 5 months before!
Avatar n tn i have been taking the yasmin pill for a few years and its recently making me not feel passionate with my partner. When i stop taking it to have a period i feel passionate. This isnt good for me and my partner as our sex life is non existant unless im having a period.
Avatar f tn I take Yasmin. I think its one of the best ones out there. It isn't as strong as some of the others out there. Also if she has any acne, Yasmin will clear it all up. I started it last year, and never had a problem with it. No breakthrough bleeding and I get my period on the 6th or 7th inactive pill. My only bad expierence with it was the first month I was on it. I got extreme emotional when I started the inactive pill week, but it got better over the months.

5121963 tn?1363905257 I did 3 rounds of Lupron, 3 months of visanne and the rest of the 7 yrs on marvelon bcp continuously after my excision surgery. I feel a lot better.
Avatar f tn 2 years ago I started a birth control pill called Yasmin and was on it for 2 years. During this time I was on and off it as it gave me alot of symptoms which included being very emotional, weight gain, low libido and more. These symptoms didn't exist when I started Yasmin, not until probably 6 months in, is when I started noticing that my body wasn't liking it. So I stopped it completely last year around August.
Avatar m tn I went to see a Doctor and he ran untra sound test on me and fiound that i have PCOD and he advised me to take Yasmin to first regularised my period which i did, I had no problim during the first month of taking it, I started the second month on 22.12.11 and since 30.12.11 i have been spotted lightly, sometimes i have some blood-like discharge, black and brown colour. I am still on the pill as my Doctor told me that it is normal to spot lightly while on the pill.
Avatar n tn I have recently been prescribed Yasmin for period cramps. A year ago I came off Micrognon 30 as it was causing distress on my body and emotions. I have only taken the pill for 2 weeks today, but I am getting a bit concerned as I am still on my period. It's not a heavy flow but there are dark red clots (which vary in size and colour). I have thought about seeing my GP but maybe it's my body adjusting with the pill and I need a few months to see if it's a problem for concern or not.
Avatar f tn During the lap my right ovary was removed, because there were a lot of complications and the condition was very bad and serious. I had chocolate cysts on my left ovary too, so after the lap I strted with Yasmin BCP treatment. I am taking Yasmin for five years now and they are helping with regulation of the hormones and they stop the cysts getting bigger.
Avatar n tn I am currently taking Yasmin, and i am on day 19 of my 21 pack.. Although yesterday i missed a pill completely and took today's late, which meant I took both at the same time today. What i am concerned about is that my boyfriend and I had unprotected sex this morning, before i had taken the pills and I don't know if i should be worried and take a test?
Avatar f tn I have heard so many bad things about Yasmin. I have also heard of the pill causing those symptoms as well so I am wondering if its just the pill itself. I take Marvelon21 and have since my surgery 4yrs ago. I am wondering if its the ingredients in the yasmin that could be doing it besides the progestin and estrogen? Where you taking it continuously with the yasmin 21 or the 28 day? MARVELON21 contains the below ingredients Each white, round tablet contains desogestrel 0.
456874 tn?1218139741 Interesting. I have ovarian cysts and thyroid issues, now with two nodular thyroid cysts. My thyroid went from 39.9 not a year and-a-half later, to 7.5, which is still not normal - better though on Armour thyroid (pig), instead of the previous Synthroid. I hope you get answers to your questions and I will look for them.
1266083 tn?1358564062 Well, I've read that a lot of women with PCOS are able to conceive naturally as long as they are having some periods and ovulate (even if it is irregularly). It's almost impossible in my case (also PCOS) because I NEVER have periods, and, therefore, never ovulate... and, of course, no ovulation, no chance of fertilization.
Avatar f tn (Now period is just very irregular) Saw a doctor (gp) that said he fixes hormone stuff, he gave me a progesterone cream and took me off Yasmin and said no bcp.. Ever. If I wanted bcp go see another doctor. So I stick with him for a while and hot flashes and bleeding stopped but things still weren't right..
Avatar f tn Are you taking metformin? Metformin is known to help with the symptoms of pcos. It also helps with weight loss (if overweight) and in time can improve your cycles. How old are you? Birth control pills just help matain a normal cycle each month. I take Yasmin and they are a very low dose form of pills. I've been on them close to 2 years and have never had a problem with side affects either. If you have irregular bleeding each month, then bcp will help contol that.
Avatar f tn When my gyn first thought I had endometriosis, he but me on bcp. I did not do well on them and ended up having to stop. I then bleed for about 3 months straight. I'd have a day here or there where I wouldn't bleed, but never more than 2 or 3 in a row, then I would start back up. My emotions were out of control and I was incredibly fatigued. I called my gyn and told him I wanted the lap surgery. I was actually still bleeding when they did the surgery and confirmed endometriosis.
1872158 tn?1320302628 For medications, the only thing I took was my birth control( YASMIN), but taking it just for the 21 days, and then letting myself have a period wasnt shrinking the cysts. I have to be on the BCP for 3 months consecutively then let myself have a period and that has been enough to shrink the L ovarian cyst. You can try medication routes but sometimes they just are not an option and will not work and surgery is needed to remove the cyst to preserve the ovary and keep it from twisting, etc.
1266083 tn?1358564062 Okay, here's the deal. I started having the "montly visit" when I was 11. For 2 years, it was irregular and when I was 13, it just STOPPED all together. I had no period for about 3 years when a doctor FINALLY diagnosed me with PCOS at the age of 16, and did a "vaginal probe" (I hate the sound of that word, haha) and found "hundreds of little cysts" on my ovaries. Well, I was then put on Yasmin and Glucophage.
