Xeloda herceptin

Common Questions and Answers about Xeloda herceptin

xeloda

Avatar f tn Within a month, the breast cancer started in her skin around the site of the node. She now has a red rash (skin mets) in approx half of her chest wall and is getting Chemo (Xeloda) and Herceptin. My question is, the skin is beginning to "harden" around the node removal surgery site. What does this mean? Any other comments on Skin mets would be greatly appreciated.

1298675 tn?1286550183 The PICC line caused two blood clots and Arixtra shots are given daily in my tummy. By late November Herceptin was started and chemo followed in December. Normal tests followed and other then an allergic reaction to the last one chemo treatment, I feel pretty good now. I received a PORT about a month ago and love it. Chemo is done and Radiation stimulation began when a new tumor close the where the other one appeared.
Avatar f tn After my 1st chemo treatment of Docetaxel, Carboplatin and Herceptin (12-wk treatment), I developed a red rash on my hands and arms causing skin peeling and pain. Nothing really bad, just sore and annoying. The rash went away w/in 2 wks, but returned stronger with my 2nd round of chemo last week. Is there any OTC ointment that I can use that will eliminate the redness and soreness?
Avatar m tn I was prescribed oral Xeloda together with infusions of oxiliplatin, but had to discontinue the Xeloda. My body smply could not tolerate the drug and while taking Xeloda I lost more than one pound per day, snd had relentless nausea and terrible pain in my hands and feet. After one three-week cycle my doctor discontinued the Xeloda. I was able to complete treatment with the oxiliplatin. This was in 2004 and I am cancer free today. Ask your mother's doctor for something else.
Avatar f tn will xeloda given alone treat both tumours in chest wall with mestases in liver.
Avatar f tn Dr. put her on Xeloda and Tykerb. She is on a 2 week on, 1 week off cycle. Her side effects have been severe. (i.e dehydration, throwing up, no appetite, mouth sores, nausea, you name it, she has it) Her last visit to the Dr. (she goes about twice a week) just yesterday, he told her (in her words) that "everything is shrinking, and you'll have to be on this for the rest of your life.
408448 tn?1286883821 Anyone ever use Xeloda pills? It is for colon cancer, but has been used in ovarian too. More for mucinous type. My cancer got pretty active on last treatment.
Avatar n tn Any insights on the pros and cons of taking herceptin? What is the best time to start herceptin treatment? What if we decide to not use herceptin?
Avatar f tn Dear Terry46, Cardiac toxicity can be a side effect of the medication Herceptin. Decisions about the use of the medication in your particular situation would need to be made based on the risks and benefits specific to you. Your oncologist would be best equipped to have this discussion with you. For additional information regarding the medication Herceptin I am referring you to the website www.chemocare.com, there you can look up information about the medication as well as side effects.
Avatar n tn Hi there. Herceptin may be given after chemotherapy or even during chemotherapy and the benefit will just be the same. However, if Herceptin is given during chemotherapy, it should not be concomitantly given with cardiotoxic chemotherapy drugs such as Adriamycin or Epirubicin as this might lead to increased cardiac side effects. If ever, Herceptin can be given along with drugs such as Vinorelbine, Paclitaxel, or Docetaxel.
Avatar n tn I have gone through a bilateral mastectomy and 6 months of chemo (5fu andmethotrexate) and now my oncologist suggest herceptin. This is goning to be tough for me to get to since the hospital is an hour away and my job is changing in January. This will mean a half day away from work every three weeks. I was BRCA negative, not genetically caused, had a small cancer removed from my left breast and one lymph node with cancer removed. I am 52 and relatively healthy otherwise.
469905 tn?1214169181 I had my 5th infusion of Herceptin alone on Thursday. Friday evening my hairless head started itching uncontrolably and by Saturday morning it was covered with a red rash and my eyes are puffy, although that could be due to lack of sleep. I had a rash on my back after the first Herceptin which was given along with cytoxan and taxotere. Has anyone else had this type of reaction to the Herceptin?
469905 tn?1214169181 What tests are typically ordered to monitor the heart of a patient who is taking Herceptin once a week and how often are those tests usually performed? How long after infusion do chemotherapy drugs stay in one's system, specifically Taxotere, Cytoxan, and Herceptin? Thank you.
Avatar m tn i AM IN great jeopardy as my aunt is suffering from CA(Left breast) and doctors has suddenly recommended the HERCEPTIN dosage. In past the chemo alone was recommended. Now on second opinion , I am going for FISH TEST to further confirm the HER2 -3+ treatment procedure. Kindly guide if this will help me or I am going the right way.
Avatar n tn I was treated with cytoxin and taxotere and now receiving Herceptin. I have had five treatments with Herceptin. My MUGA scan pre chemo and herceptin showed 77.7%. Now after these treatments I have dropped to 61%. I am not overweight, but do have some cardio risk factors, i.e smoking, high blood presure and high cholesteral, also a family history (father) of heart disease. Should I continue the Herceptin? Have frequent MUGA tests? See a cardiologist?
Avatar f tn I had 4 rounds of chemo my body would not tolerate it any more 6 weeks of radiation . I could not take tamoxiphen etc. nO HERCEPTIN doc never mentions anything about this at check ups.Should I be concerned about this thank you kathy This discussion is related to The effect of chemotherapy on her2/neu cancer.
Avatar f tn The protocols that contain herceptin usually recommend giving Herceptin for one year. This strategy has proven to prevent recurrence of the cancer for patients with Her2 positive tumors. Herceptin can cause cardiac side effects such as weakening of the heart contraction as will be evidenced by a low ejection fraction (EF). I'm not sure what you mean by the reading of 61.
Avatar f tn Dear Doreen789: Adjuvant therapy includes all therepy - chemotherapy, herceptin, hormone therapy.
Avatar f tn My sister had chemotherapy and herceptin treatment before and after she had a radical mastectomy last year. She has been experiencing severe joint pain since that time. She lived in South Carolina at the time and has since moved to Texas. Her Oncologist in South Carolina had her on Fentanyl patches after lots of other medications didn’t work. Her new Oncologist insists the joint pain has nothing to do with her cancer or treatments and wants her off the Fentanyl.
Avatar f tn The role of Her-2 testing of breast cancer cells is to determine which women will derive benefit from the use of the drug Herceptin. Herceptin binds to the “Her-2 Receptor” on the surface of cancer cells to cause cell death. The chemotherapy Hercepin only works if the Her-2 receptors are present on the cell surface. Imagine the receptor as a keyhole and Herceptin as the key. Without a keyhole, the Heceptin cannot work.
Avatar m tn However, the ki-67 and Her2Neu are both poor prognosis markers, and it would be recommended for you to undergo targeted therapy with Herceptin after the surgery. Herceptin specifically targets the Her2Neu receptors and has been shown to improve disease control and prevent recurrence. Ki-67 on the other hand still has no definitive targeting drug. I hope your operation will be as uneventful as possible. Regards and God bless.
Avatar f tn However, there is a drug specifically aimed to target Her2+ cancer, this drug is called Herceptin. Studies have shown that this drug either given alone or in combination with other chemotherapy drugs can decrease the chance of recurrence and eventually improve treatment outcomes. Another drug approved for those who failed Herceptin is Lapatinib (Tykerb). Regards...
Avatar f tn Iwas receiving chemo with herceptin and chemo was stopped May 15th. Now receiving Herceptin iv every 3wks and tamoxifen only. How safe is this and what are the risk statistics for recovery?
Avatar n tn I understand that I will be on Herceptin for one year after I complete my chemotherapy. The first dose is ninety minutes plus prep time, so I probably will need my picc line. However, the following doses are only 30 minutes and I am planning to have the picc line removed. Can this be done without the picc line? Thank you for all your help.
