I had a hysterectomy in October 2009, I was put on the vivelle-dot patch. I'm on the lowest dose (0.05mg). I change the patch twice a week. I had my yearly mamogram (which has always been normal). I picked up the report today and it says: Findings: Dense and hetergenous breast parenchyma is again observed with minor asymmetry.

t mean to sound rude, but premarin is not a great replacement. It is made from the urine of pregnant mares (horses). They have different make ups than us humans. I hope you get some answers regarding the hormones. Do you take meds for the hyperthyroidism? I had a brief episode of thyroiditis a few years ago and was put on PTU and inderal for a short time. Mine resolved but there are many treatments to get that condition under control.

Could this be caused by the patch losing effectiveness before the week is up? Would switching to Vivelle Dot, which has a twice a week schedule, help prevent the bleeding?

I had a TAH two weeks ago and started on vivelle dot. My gyn says I dont need progesterone cream, but I am reading otherwise....Does anyone know if I can get it over the counter or does it require a RX?? Just wondering, because if I need it, I want it!

Hi, I'm on a HRT (Vivelle-Dot) but I'm also a limbolander, but I might be of some help. I was put on Vivelle-Dot after loosing all my hormones due to a hysterectomy. Both Vivelle-Dot and Climara seem to contain estradiol (a form of estrogen bioidentical to your body's own). In the summer, I have been on this med for a year. I was put on this med right after my last form of hormone was removed (which was one ovary by this point).

The main ingredient is Premarin which is short - from my reading of pregnant mares. This is a horse hormone that is labeled as equillin. There are no traces of this hormone equillin in the table of human hormones. The second component in Prempro is called Provera stated progesterone - but its really not human progesterone or progesterone at all. Human estrogen is actually a blend of three different molecules. Estriol, estrone and estradiol.

I'm almost 60 years old and have been experiencing severe hot flashes for years. A couple years ago I was put on 0.05mg Vivelle-dot patches. I'm still having the flashes. My forehead, especially, sweats a lot wetting my bangs completely! Would going on a higher dose of Vivelle stop the hot flashes? I want to keep on bioidentical-type remedies and wondered if something else included/instead of would do the trick. I'd greatly appreciate help!

thanks for your imput, I was on estrace but caused a rash so he had me get on Vivelle dot patched, what is timed bd ? and which meds did you not use ?

Mayfly, It is so hard to say if the patch of Vivelle caused the weight gain. This is such a complicated subject. I am wondering if your body was making Estrogen in the form of Estrone (which is the 'menopause' estrogen that is made as a by-product from the fat in our system... and this fat is what causes the fat around our middle section so that it is readily available for use by the body since women's bodies crave estrogen)...

I was put on the vivelle dot patch when I came home from the hospital and started on 1.0 and now i am down to 0.5. I occassionally have a hot flash nothing terrible and for the most part feel ok..I did some research and found that it is better to try hormones that come from a plant deritative..which it does..I am extremely tired alot dont know if that contributes..I wish you lots of luck on Tuesday and please keep us posted!!!! Or, you may want to think about something completely different like the Vivelle Dot patch. This is something your Dr will have to prescribe just like your Estrace pills.

I really do not get hot flashes, do get night sweats sometimes. I have been told that this is all normal but wanted to know what is the best natural remedy for the mood swings and irritability???

The vivelle, vivelle dot and Climara are all bioidentical hormones like Kate was talking about. They are supposed to be very similar to our own hormones, but they are still not our own :( Take it from me though, they are great.

Oh great one of the side effects of vivelle dot patch is back ache,,that explains my lower back pain,,,it did happen after going on vivelle,but i am thinking clearer maybe it willl go away

I had a complete hysterectomy 5 1/2 years ago at the age of 35 for a borderline serous tumor in one of my ovaries. I have been on the vivelle dot .1mg patch for several years with no problems. Lately, I have been having symptoms of low estrogen like hot flashes. Unfortunately, my gyn oncologist has retired so I have been seeing my regular ob for my yearly follow up.

I keep going back and forth. Can I hear from anyone who has had a hysterectomy....what decision they made on the ovaries and how they are doing now?

Hi, Just had TAH and was wondering just how long would the huge abdominal bloating last??? I know everyone is different, but does anyone have a "guestimate"?? Also, was started on Vivelle Dot and have been reading alot about needing progesterone, my doc says no, what do you all think??

just my personal opinion only but Im leary of Premarine...its the oldest hormone treatment also I kinda think the method of how it is made is rather discusting...its from the urine of a pregnant horse,,,IDK many women have succes with it, as I say just my personal thought. Also you may not need hormones for life...most dont I used Vivelle dot (patch) for a year...then experimented stopped and my symptoms were gone so I stopped using it. Have a great day at work...

I have been using the estrogen patch (Vivelle dot .1) since my surgery and have had no problems with hot flashes. However, for the past 8 months I having been getting hot flashes every now and then. Is this normal? When I mentioned it to my doctor, he just said I was already taking the highest dose the patch comes in and didn't like the idea of me using the oral kind. I'm just wondering why this would start after so many years and if anyone else has experienced this.
