Common Questions and Answers about What is the medication diovan used for

diovan

Avatar m tn My cardiologist said I should continue the Metoprolol succ and I can stop the Diovan. I was OK for a week or so, then suddenly, I felt the same pressure in my head again and I woke up at night. My BP was 150/100 and I got scared again. In the ER, they kept me overnight and I was admitted. The doctor put me on Metoprolol Succinate (25 mg) twice a day and observed me for 4 days.
Avatar m tn This medication works by forcing more water extraction from the blood, basically making you urinate much more to keep a lower volume of blood in the body. Is this because you have kidney problems? This medication can cause inflammation of the throat and/or airways so it may be the cause of your symptoms. I would speak to your GP and talk about changing to a more commonly used blood pressure medication if possible. Drugs like Ramapril or verapamil are widely used and are ace inhibitors.
459164 tn?1206363843 I was on Diovan for over 6years - I did some reserch on the medication, and found side effects were as : blurring vision - lazy eye lids- effects nerve in eyes. with long term use be it known, I went to my eye doctor (yearly visit) he found after testing, I had slight left eye signs of early Glaucoma. he than asked me what b.p meds am I useing daily? I told him, and he said - Point blank get off the Diovan ! it can cause Glaucoma.

378273 tn?1262097621 m glad to have answered some of your questions. Yes, your Systolic BP is a little on the low side. Maybe your Dr can discontinue the Diovan, keep the Metoprolol as is or increase that a tad and let's not forget the addition of the blood thinner:) Regarding the Potassium of 3.1, you weren't given a supplement? When my levels drop, I am put on a Supp. You mention Primary Dr...Do you have a cardiologist? They would be the best source for treating heart related issues.
Avatar f tn I am bumping your post up. Here is what I found on the possible side effects of Diovan HCT: You may experience dizziness, lightheadedness, blurred vision, or tiredness as your body adjusts to the medication. You may also experience diarrhea, dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, or cough. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
Avatar m tn your Pharmacist is more knowledgeable with medication, interactions, etc. Your doctor prescribes the drug and the pharmacist cannot change that without consulting the doctor and getting a new prescription.
Avatar n tn My 79 year old mother, who lives in another state, is on medication for hypertension. She takes Carvedilol, Diovan, Dilitiazem, and Clonidine. Her doctor even talked about putting her on a fifth medicine. I'm not a doctor, but it doesn't make sense to me for anyone to have that many different prescriptions for one problem.
Avatar f tn as this one, who seemed to start off well is not doing what is best for me, but what is best for the Pharmacutical companies. each time I visit him he want's to give me drugs. not actually looking at the cause and effects of the problems and consequences of too many drugs.
378273 tn?1262097621 This is the range my doctor uses. Your just barely above the high end normal number. This is most likely due to your medicine, I would not be concerned with this small elevation. Just make sure you have liver test done periodically, to monitor any changes.
Avatar f tn I'm a 64 yrs. old woman who used to take Diovan 320 mg. & Toprol 50 mg. for my B.P. My B.P. readings was okay but my Doctor discontinued the Toprol because my heart rate usually on the 40's. I am currently taking Norvasc 5mg. with the Diovan 320 mg. So far, my B.P. readings is very good, 110/70. But eversince I started the Norvasc, my left leg is swelling and it is becoming worst. I'd like to ask my Doctor to discontinue the Norvasc.
Avatar f tn When you can't sleep from the withdrawals, I've been told that Trazadone is a good choice for sleep because it isn't a controlled substance, etc. What is the story with this medication?
Avatar n tn I have high blood pressure that fluctuate from 170/66 pulse 77 other times 207/102 pulse 107. My main concern at this time is whether my pulse from 104-108 is something to be concerned with? I am presently taking medication (Lotrel & Diovan) for my high blood pressure, for approximately 5 years it's under contol (113/77) a little higher at times but not by much (120/75).
Avatar f tn In my opinion, experience and search Coreg is the best and main medication (with other pills) if you have low EF. Up until the EF improves like a year or more good to be on Coreg. If your doctor says not for you, ask him to explain why?
Avatar f tn His bp now is 110/60 range but with the dizziness on Monday it was 84/52. Would the nitro patch cause the diziness? He is to wear the patch for 12 hours and take it off at bedtime. He has had 3 angioplasty's with a total of 7 stents in the last 7 months and he is also diabetic with good control. He is 56 years old and 5'10" 178 pounds. Thank you for your help!
Avatar n tn Keeping a healthy working body lessens your risk of an outbreak. plus there is a medication to take on top of the eating right and moderately exercising. It is called Valtrex. Very expensive without insurance. Looking at a minimum of 400. Which pays for a small quantity. Hope this information helps someone.
343006 tn?1314446471 I'm not sure this is exactly in reference to what you're asking. But, when I was on beta blockers (for palpitations), I had a stress test. My report says I had a blunted HR because of medication. I was able to complete the test, exercise as I would normally exercise, but my HR would not increase past 110 or 120. I remember being told that the BB was doing its job..
Avatar n tn I tried metoprol and diovan hct and although by bp is in the normal range my heart rate is elevated unless I continue on the cardizem cd. Is there another medication that I can discuss with my cardiologist to replace the cardizem cd that will keep my heart rate in the normal range? I feel I've got to withdraw from the cardizem as the side effects seem to be progressing the longer I use the medication.
Avatar m tn But, Atenolol is a beta blocker and some people find that BBs suppress their PVCs.
Avatar m tn It could be that the particular medication that you are on that contains the diuretic is not the one for you.
514523 tn?1215832667 is giving me Toprol and Zocor too while I wait to see the ENDO . I am kinda scared to take all these meds along with what the Endo is gonna give me. Anyone with hyperthyroidism taking any of these meds and do they have bad side effects?
Avatar m tn When the aorta root size is greater than 4.0 cm it is considered an aneursym and when the size gets to 5 cm there becomes some concern for a possible rupture. There really isn't any practical reason to delay surgery unless one has other serious medical conditions or poor general health.
Avatar n tn I took the BP of anyone who would let me, not quite believing the calibration of the BP cuff. For three weeks of consistently avoiding gluten the BP has stayed in the healthy range. I diminished the Diovan HCT to nothing and plan in August after more walking and careful diet to have another fasting blood sugar done since I am hoping the high reading was due to the hydroclorothiazine and not belly fat, obesity and a family history of type 2 diabetes. So what's my question?
