This is a clear criminal act. How come FDA is not allowing the safe to use Mesalazine Enema, which has been used for years in Europe and Canada? I am not certain how I can spread the word so that all UC patients who are suffering can get benefited. Please spread the word and let CCFA know that this drug needs to be made available in US. I have to buy it from UK or Canada at my own expenses. This is outrageous when I am paying so much for insurance. Please advise.
The Doctors who adviced injection told immediate surgery is needed for this megacolon and perforation problem. After surgery my nephew was unable to response problem and doctor informed that he had a infection after surgery. Doctor told that he had a infection and due to infection there was liver problem. They gave antibiotics but it was not working. The infection started increasing and affected the liver and brain. My question is what could be the cause of infection.
I am 56 year old male, diabetic type 2, have been diagnosed a year ago with ulcerative colitis, they prescribed pentasa as medication, now after one year I for rectal bleeding again, I took pentasa 2000 mg on my own , rectal bleeding stopped, watched my diet for a few days , then I went back to my bad eating habits drinking carrot juice , and tuna with little spices, diarreha came back and today I took 2000 mg pentasa orally, after but was eating sweets , now after a few hours at night bleeding
Sorry to hear that. Pentasa is certainly the lowest level prescription drugs that can be prescribed. As you go up in drugs, the impact and potential side effects go up (e.g. next step would be something like Imuran, then Humira). Have you gotten any blood tests recently? C-Reactive counts, Sedimentary rate, and White Blood Cell counts can be markers of imflammation or a change in something. Vitamin D will probably be low if you're not absorbing anything in your gut (i.e. frequent diarrehea).
I have a very severe case of Crohns, so the pain is excruciating, and dealing with the pain is a daily battle for me and my family. I am on Cimzia and Pentasa 4grams a day, for the Crohns itself, Dicyclomine for most bowl and rectal spasms (works in calming down the need to go), and Tramodol 100mg (8 max a day) though I sometimes use more.
My husband is having attacks that start with pain in his upper stomach, then he has constant diarrhea, then violently vomits during this time he is profusely sweating and has a drop in temperature. A year ago he had his gallbladder removed because of similar attacks. He has had almost every test done and the doctors don't have an answer. The attacks have stopped for now, he is taking 500mg of Pentasa 4 times a day and Nexium 2 times a day. He will have a camera endoscopy next week.
I have had Crohn's 4 years and was on Pentasa and 6MP successfully for the first two. I have frequent problems with my esophagus. My doctor actually put me on Diflucan today for a really swollen throat because he thinks I have candida. I actually couldnt eat all day because it was so bad. It feels constricted, full and heavy. Does your tongue look like thrush? You know, white and furry, like little babies who nurse? It might be as simple as that.
i have uc 2 years ago i have no diahrea no belly pain just some time see some blood when i go to bath i take pentasa 4 pills per days for 8 mounths i i didn't see any blood from the first 10 days when i started to take pentasa i stopped to take it 7 mounths but then the bleeding back then i started to take pentasa again but since 3 months but bleeding never stop come and god ,,,i heard that vitamin D, yoghurt , banana, fenugreek,tumeric..

I would second the above advice and also add that Aloe juice, probiotics and vitamin B12 injections help enormously. If you have access to an infrared sauna this makes a big difference in feeling better. I ended up buying one and use it daily when flaring. My heart goes out to you. I got Crohn's when i was 26 and it was devastating. I can't imagine what it is like for a child. I wish you both the best and send healing vibes....
Welcome to the gastroenterology community! I think you should find a different GI doctor. Pentasa Sachet is for IBD (inflammatory bowel disease) which the colonoscopy says she doesn't have. She probably has IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) which is something completely different. Has she tried eliminating different foods from her diet like lactose and gluten?
