Common Questions and Answers about What is omega 3 good for diet

omega-3

198942 tn?1236316304 We all need the essential fatty acids to stay healthy, and oils that are high in Omega 3 oils, we get enough Omega 6 oils in our diets through eggs and such. The omega 3 is best obtained from fish, and I take a fish oil supplement for my heart and general brain health, it is in liquid form and not too bad once you get used to it. Flax seed oil is another good oil, it sort of has a "nutty" taste.
Avatar m tn Most everyone knows or has heard about omega-3. The omega that many haven't heard about but that is very important to your health is omega-6. While omega-6 isn't bad in and of itself, what's bad about omega-6 is that Americans get too much of it. Having too much omega-6 and not enough omega-3 in your diet leads to many diseases. To avoid these diseases, you must keep these two very important essential fatty acids in balance or the right ratio.
Avatar n tn While all children with ADHD are not deficient in omega-3 fatty acids, we believe that the addition of omega-3 fatty acids to the diet may be important for some ADHD children. In fact, studies show that children whose treatment program includes only medication, educational and psychological therapy continue to be at high risk for vandalism, petty crime, frequency of alcoholic intoxication, and possession of marijuana.
Avatar f tn m open to new info if you have it. What is true is that the Omega 3 in flax seed oil is different from that in fish oil, and flax seed oil contains more than just omega 3 oils, whereas most fish oil is artificially purified to eliminate many other beneficial oils that would also be a fish.
Avatar m tn Recommend a Heart Healthy diet which is a moderate fat diet. You need approximately 2500-3000 calories per day which is spread across 3 meals a day with snacks between meals. Moderate fat diet means = use polyunsaturated (omega 3, corn oil, nuts, etc) fats and monounsaturated (olive oil, canola oil, peanut oil, etc) fats, no saturated fats (high fat snack foods, butter, fat spreads) and no trans fats.
Avatar m tn I am a heart patient aged 66 years and underwent angioplasty 3 days back. What should be my diet? please provide me the proper diet chart.
Avatar f tn As we know, Omega-3 is supposed to be really important for the baby. But my doctor is not convinced that prenatal vitamins really help (who knows what's really in them, right?) and believes in going to the source for the nutrition I need. During my last visit, she turned me on to flax seed, which you can get in the natural foods stores. They're tiny seeds that have very little taste and can easily be put in almost any food.
Avatar n tn Caffeine can cause palpitation. It is good for brady but no good to tachy. It is listed on my diabetes list as the food CAN EAT by diabetic. YES!
Avatar m tn I am keen to balance out any hormone imbalance but i seem to have a sensitivity to omega 3, or perhaps is it iodine? Most of the literature online seems to suggest omega 3 will reduce inflammation, thereby helping reduce acne.
603543 tn?1255294450 1 gram EPA daily is what most studies found effective for depression. Country Life makes Omega 3 Mood High EPA Mood Balancing Formula. 2 capsule contain 1 gram EPA. FYI, it can take 1-2 months of taking fish oil everyday before you notice an effect.
739988 tn?1386672969 No Lovaza is not fish oil. It is an FDA approved anti-cholesterol medication that works similarily to fish oil, used off label for bipolar experimentally. I was almost prescribed it and my mother might be taking it for cyclothymia. Some mood disorders specialists and psychopharmocologists are already using it and other psychiatrists might be willing. Its usage is known. Its just not a first line mood stabilizer.
Avatar n tn At the suggestion of a friend, I recently started taking Omega 3 fish oil capsules. I am also taking high blood pressure medication. Over the past six months my medication has been changed four times as I've had a host of side effects from each medication. Unfortunately, each side effect would occur in conjunction with some other change in my health/lifestyle so it was hard to detect or pinpoint what the cause of my problem was. This recent condition is no exception.
Avatar m tn Some experts have said that the balance between Omega 6 fatty acids and Omega 3 is key, but just as many say this is nonsense. Omega 3 do have benefits, mainly reducing inflammation in the body, such as in the arteries or joints. It can also reduce your clotting factor if taken in too high doses, causing excessive bleeding. Experts do agree on one thing, take omega 3 acids from foods rather than supplements. Without a doubt, having enough Omega 3 acids in your diet does improve health.
Avatar f tn While tumeric is a good herb for the liver, artichoke is better for helping with the digestion of fat. So a diet rich in antioxidants, you know, nice colored veggies and some fruits, vitamin E with the tocotrienols, and such help keep oxidation from occurring, and the good fats, the fish oil, keeps things flowing which also helps prevent oxidation.
Avatar f tn I did a quick search of the literature, and there is little proof that Omega-3 helps with myelin repair, although there is research in this area. Omega-3 and Omega-6 seem to be very important for the DEVELOPING BRAIN AND NERVOUS SYSTEM. Much of the evidence to date has to do with prenatal and children's diets and consumption of to little Omgega-3 and excess Omega-6. The body can produce Omega-9 given a balanced diet.
653138 tn?1258572904 Fish is best form of animal food, especially that high in omega 3 oils, and only eat wild, not farm raised. Omega 3 oils are also anti-inflammatory. Supplementing with fish oil is probably a good idea. As to the meds you're on, you're in a pickle. The meds for the psychological illnesses are sedating, especially the seroquel and trazodone, and that leaves the body weaker to fight the energy-sapping fibromyalgia.
Avatar m tn t bad for you, and there are many different ones, some of which are as good for you as omega 3 fatty acids, such as GLA. As for seaweed being a source of DHA, it is generally believed that the DHA in seaweed isn't absorbed by humans. It is absorbed by fish, which is where the fish get the DHA from in the first place -- eating seaweed, particularly red seaweed, which is usually not digestible for humans.
526889 tn?1212540641 I would recommend a Heart Healthy diet which is a moderate fat diet. Moderate fat diet means = use polyunsaturated (omega 3, corn oil, nuts, etc) fats and monounsaturated (olive oil, canola oil, peanut oil, etc) fats, no saturated fats (high fat snack foods, butter, fat spreads) and no trans fats.
Avatar f tn My shitzu dog is 7 years old and has kidney stones and allergies. He also has high cholesterol(Cushings' disease suspected). He weighs about 10 lbs. Is it safe for me to give him omega 3 capsules and what should be the dosage? Thank you, Mrs.
Avatar n tn I do both....I have a number of dog food cook books....I have 4 furkids so I usually make recipes like Turkey loafs or turkey patties that go along way...There favorite snack is homemade blueberry muffins. (Also from a cookbook). I make a batch and freeze them..Pull out a few at a time. I eat them, too. They are yummy! :) Made with honey and such with no salt or any of that...I add Icelandic Salmon oil to their food, as it is an omega 3...
518994 tn?1212242047 I read where Omega 3 was good for your dog. Is it a different Omega 3 or is it the same that humans take?
Avatar m tn Each quartile corresponded to the level of omega-3 fatty acids in their blood. The first quartile was very low in omega-3 fatty acids; the second quartile was higher in omega-3s, etc. The researchers found that the men in the second-lowest quartile had a 45 percent lower risk of sudden cardiac death compared with those in the lowest quartile, and those in the second highest quartile had a 72 percent lower risk of death.
