Avatar m tn I am taking tablets for my minor neural problem for the past 4 years, The tablets i am consuming are Oxcarbazepine (Trileptal) -300mg and Levetiracetam (keppra) -250mg. Now I am looking for a tablet which should have both of this content in the same. I feel guilty that I am taking more tablets and my health condition is improved now. so I planned to reduce my tablet dosage. so I look over this- i.e.
Avatar m tn What are your experiences with the following drugs? I want to start with the drug that I have the best chance of maintaining my intellect, fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination and personalty.
Avatar m tn In my opinion, you are taking WAY too many different medications. Sometimes, "more" is not always better. If it was working for you, then I would say..."great, keep doing what you're doing", but obviously the regimen you're on isn't effective. I would discuss that you are still struggling with a high level of anxiety with your MD, and even seek a 2nd opinion about your meds/condition.
Avatar m tn I am an Indian Citizen living in the US. I have been taking LEVETIRACETAM (to control partial-onset seizures) since 2011. Currently, I am in perfect health conditions. As a precautionary medicine, I get the medicine from India either myself or through a friend/family member traveling between India and the US. Due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic, I am running short of medicine. I have my prescription and medical certificates to support my condition.
Avatar f tn Keppra or levetiracetam is indicated for seizure and sometimes used to treat neuropathic pain. The exact mechanism in treating epilepsy is actually unknown but the drug is known to bind to a synaptic vesicle protein which is believed to impede nerve conduction across synapses. Diagnostic tests such as EEG may be normal especially if it was done after the seizure episode. It is important that you take your medications regularly and as prescribed.
Avatar f tn My husband has highblood pressure, seizures, asthma, & a aneurysm on his brain. He is taking the following medications: can levetiracetam 750mg (2 2 times a day) be taken with amlodipine 10mg (1 time a day) and albuterol 90mcg (2 pumps 4 times a day). Can these be mixed? I this too much medicine?
Avatar m tn Hi, welcome to the forum, his condition is suggestive of myoclonus or myoclonic jerk. But it needs a detailed evaluation for type of myoclonus (Physiologic, Essential, Epileptic or Secondary) and also the focal discharge arising from the region of the brain. This condition needs o be differentiated from restless leg syndrome wherein the symptoms are predominantly restricted to legs and there are other causes.
Avatar f tn What have you heard from patients on keppra for their epilepsy? My daughter is very tired, and has just begun keppra 7 days ago. She takes it only at night because of her extreme tiredness when she began it in the morning initially, and will be eased on to a second does in the morning next week. She's on only 250 mg once nightly now. Next week we're adding 125 mg to the morning and increasing that to a 250 mg morning dose the following week. Here are my questions: 1.
9993344 tn?1407128563 My mom is currently taking Diazepam, Levetiracetam and Alprazolam.
Avatar f tn Keppra (levetiracetam) is mostly excreted by the kidneys are is one of the safest drugs speaking in terms of therapeutic vs. toxic blood concentrations. Other drugs include zonisamide, potassium bromide, etc. A large percentage of dogs respond to one anti-seizure medication. For some, one is not enough and they need 2, 3, or 4 others! (I have seen it). It is not excessive to have more than one drug. Each drug works on a different receptor in the brain.
Avatar m tn Since I am not sure what the branded names are for these in India, here are the generic names for the most common anti-epileptics for seizures of the gelastic type: carbamazepine, clobazam, lamotrigine, levetiracetam, oxcarbazepine and topiramate. These medications rarely stop the seizures completely but reduce the frequency and severity of them. I hope this helps, my prayers are with you and your son.
Avatar f tn i was put on keppra and now am having a lot of confusion and am very tired and extremely moody. is this related to the seizure and or the medication?
Avatar m tn At this point of time he is not able to speak more than two words in a row. His Hb is 8.9. He is on valporate, topiramate and levetiracetam. His MRI scan revealed "Assymetric Right Temporal Horn prominence without any difinite evidence of mesial scerosis" His walking pattern is also erratic. Most often he adopts "Toe Walking". When he walks slowly, which is rare, he walks alright. Always he tries to rush up and runs in an imbalancing manner.
Avatar m tn Even more strange is if I replicate the jerking movment of my neck (head jerks from left to right) my left arm fallows, if I tighten my back muscls to pop my spine my left arm twitches. what on earth is this? I would go see a doctor but I will not have insurance till summer school begins in June. I am scared that I have a serious neurological disorder, or is this just caused by stress and/or lack of sleep? any info welcomed. thanks!
Avatar m tn This is probably not familial. It is almost certainly one or several of those medications that you are on. Indeed, with respect, it would be difficult to imagine how anyone could function "normally" on such a pharmaceutical cocktail! The ones that act on your brain need to be the first to go. Discuss this with your doctor. There must be better ways.
Avatar f tn We have only tried twice to get pregnant and we have 2 kids. First time with both kids. He is on Lamictal and Levetiracetam (2 types of meds) twice a day. He had his last seizure a year ago. I have never heard of any sexual side effects, cause we havent dealt with any, but then again he is italian so that also increases his passion, lol. I would find out the type of meds he is on and just google it and see what side effects come up! Good luck!
Avatar m tn s purpose is to treat psychoses, and you have been diagnosed with one, and when a medication is working for you but not well enough it is common to augment it by adding other meds to it. This is especially true if you've taken a lot of different meds and they haven't worked. At that point, docs will try things they wouldn't normally. Some people handle everything with no problem. Some don't. You won't know until you try it, but you asked, and there is a risk.
Avatar n tn It sounds as if he has Epilepsy.. my ex has epilepsy...he may need medicine for it (keppra/levetiracetam-but go to a doctor first to make sure he has epilepsy u dont want o be giving him the wrong medicine) but he can help it by avoiding stress, arguments, eating right, and drinking alot of fluids-water, gatorade, when your father is having an Episode u need to stay with him dont panic i know its scary but u need to just breathe and count..
1328714 tn?1294578263 t had a seizure for over 5 months, but is the memory loss from then or just from the area the epilepsy is situated in in my brain?
Avatar f tn Admittedly, I do not have much personal experience with seizures and am unfamiliar with that last medication. You say there is increased sedation. Is he even able to eat? I would be concerned trying to force feed him might cause choking. Perhaps the meds are causing stomach upset and nausea. Did the Vet give you anything for nausea? You can give Pepto Bismol or Pepcid but you should consult with your Vet as they may be contraindicated with that medication. Is he drinking at all?
Avatar m tn Hello, An erection problem is the inability to get or maintain an erection that is firm enough for a man to have intercourse. If the condition persists, the medical term is erectile dysfunction. Causes may be psychological, smoking, alcohol, illicit drugs and medical conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, heart or thyroid conditions, poor circulation, low testosterone, depression, spinal cord and neurological causes.
641243 tn?1235752084 Thanks for the great research Ginger. I confess, I have no idea what foreign companies are good or not when it comes to pet meds since I've always obtained mine from our vet. Kate - will you please let us know how Wentworth does with the keppra? My nephew has fairly severe epilepsy and keppra never seemed to help so they're weaning him off it now. What it DID do was send him out into the ozone and turn him into a drooling idiot, and he still had daily multiple seizures.
Avatar f tn Please make sure you recognize that this forum is for educational purposes only, and it does not substitute for a formal office visit with a doctor. Without the ability to examine and obtain a history, I can not tell you what the exact cause of the symptoms is. However I will try to provide you with some useful information. Levetiracetam has been associated with pharyngitis, rhinitis, and cough in 4-14% of patients. It can lower blood counts in ~2% and cause flu-like symptoms in ~5%.
