Avatar m tn After an ECG, was diagnosed with MVP, this diagnosis was given more than a month after the ER visit and I was already on the DIltiazen, but I just recently read that Diltiazem was a treatment used for MVP and arrythmia. THAT connection was never made even though we talked about it, independent of the rapid heart rate. .Did I misinterpret what I read? I stopped taking the DIltiazem because I had a low to normal rate. Was that a mistake on my part?
177337 tn?1310059899 I have Diltiazem for that reason. When I'm having a bratty heart day with lots of tachy and chest pain, I use one of those to calm things down. It's not quick like taking an aspirin for a headache but it does help. The only down side is Diltiazem gives me a wicked headache. If I took it every day like I used to, that side effect would wear off in a couple of weeks. Still, I'd rather just take it when I have to and deal with the headache. At least it calms my heart.
Avatar n tn When I first started Diltiazem I had a powerful throbbing headache for a few weeks. It gradually tapered off. I was a bit tired too. After I'd been on it for a few months my BP would have low times (systolic in the 90's). I was a slug when my bp dropped that low. But thank goodness it wasn't that low all the time. It sure helped with the tachy times and chest pain though.
Avatar m tn What has been your experience with this drug as a treatment for PSVT (my blood pressure is normal)? What other drugs worked better for you? [I am a 76 year old male in otherwise good health.
Avatar m tn I was on tiazac 360mg for a couple of years for high blood pressure.I started having palpitations, skipped beats. The longer I was on it the worse it got. It finally got to where I was having some beats so strong and violent.I told my cardiologist and asked to change medication or a lower dose.He told me to go back to my family doctor who prescribed it originally. As it was 6 weeks to see him, I decided to stop the tiazac. After a few days the symptoms went away.
Avatar m tn I just checked my prescription bottle and see the calcium channel blocker is Diltiazem 120 mg twice a day. This is a generic medication for the drug you mention, I believe. It is normal release, so I take it every 12 hours. I do believe the slow release isn't available in generic.
Avatar m tn Jude medical and feeling good ,my question is what medicines i should take for further care?and prevention of episode? This discussion is related to Dialated Heart medicines prescriptions.
Avatar m tn Thanks for the response - His hemo went from 15.5 at start to 9.8, The gastro doctor just changed him a week ago to 3 Riba's in the am and only 2 in the evening (one less). I will call the gastro again today because he has worked with my husband for 10 years...the cardio guy just met him in the emergency room.
672586 tn?1280933658 My friend Flycaster is right. Why the switch at all? The Metoprolol is a beta bocker and the Diltiazem is a calcium channel blocker, so I would have to wonder why the switch. The beta blocker would improve blood flow, while the calcium channel blocker helps the heart ryhthm and/or heart rate.
Avatar f tn The first two agents address primarily heart rate (HR) but are not great blood pressure (BP) drugs. Speaking of HR, what is the reason that you see an electrophysiologist? Atrial fibrillation? and are you feeling poorly when your heart rate is 40s? I would say that if your HR needed to be a little faster than 40s, then adjust metoprolol or diltiazem as your had done, but then increase the enalapril and/or telmisartan to treat the blood pressure.
Avatar f tn Is there another therapeutic drug with fewer side effects? My loved one is on two drugs, Crestor and Verapamil...but the fatigue is almost debillatating. Help....any thoughts. Any successes out there?
Avatar m tn I've had those tingling sensations in my chest, hands, abdomen, and feet (it moves around) but they appear to be related to taking Calcium blockers for blood pressure. I've been to the doctor and examined repeatedly. There's nothing wrong, despite the sensations (as long as they're not clearly painful). I'm taking Diltiazem and it works like gangbusters for me. I may go get examined by a neurologist but there have been no harmful effects, in my life, from the tingling.
Avatar f tn I used suboxone for an opiate addiction as well. So this part is true....but is he still taking the subs? If not, it sounds like heroin to me. This could easily be where all of your $$ is going. Just out of curiosity, what type of test does he have that would not test for commen drugs?
Avatar n tn I am currently on 30 mg of diltiazem 3x day and i was wondering how effective is this dose at bring down your blood pressure. and how much would it bring it down. a rough estimate would be great. for i am hoping to come off of this medicine.
Avatar n tn I am on another brand/generic calcium channel blocker - Diz..don't recall, but I can check. I take what I think is the maximum does and had some of the symptoms you mention, but none real bad and my body has adjusted. Swelling of ankles was the the side-effect I most noticed, as did my wife. But it was not noticeable when dressed (a man) and I didn't have trouble putting on my shoes. I discussed with my cardiologist and he recommended I give it more time.
Avatar n tn I'm not sure a single extra pill will kill you but it will probably lower your BP quite a bit. And how much time has passed between one dose and the other? Are you talking about one in the morning and then maybe another at night because you don't remember or taking 2 in the morning because you're in a hurry? If you're not having any symptoms, that's good. But really - you should think about getting a pill organizer box if this is hard for you. Better safe than sorry.
Avatar n tn Duktuazen, used for A-Fib and PSVT, can causes rash and leg-edema, low blood pressure, and dizziness. My suggestion is start lap-swimming using a front-mounted snorkel every day for 45 minutes and you'll strengthen and tone your heart. After a week your heart will be stronger and the electrical pathways will conduct current more effectively reducing the chance of PSVT episodes returning.
Avatar f tn I had afib for a decade and have taken diltiazem and flecainide over that period with pretty good control of symptoms. But now daily pvcs for past 6 weeks, almost always at night. Monitoring with Kardia device. Curious if others have experienced similar association of arrythmias?
Avatar f tn Well, it turns out that was NOT Diltiazem nit another antiarrhythmic she was on. This is what she texted me regarding getting off diltiazem: "It was the capsule and the beads weren't all the same size. It was difficcult. I sat and counted the beads and i did it in 2 weeks." I hope that helps. Meanwhile, she's doing great. Had it done at U of P in Philadelphia.
Avatar m tn I take Metoprolol for a thick heart muscel & pvc, which it doesn't help much with the pvc's, Diltiazem was just added 120mg once a day. My doctor seemed somewhat reluctant to add the Diltiazem but said lets try it. My Blood pressure has been around 155/95. His reluctance just seems to scare me. Should I try it or should I not? If I do start taking it should I take it with the metoprolol or at different times?
Avatar f tn IV meds used to cardiovert can be quite uncomfortable I hear. I've never gone in to have that done. Mostly due to my ignorance years ago about my heart issues. I just laid in bed and cried until the heart kicked back to normal. That's no fun either. As for which medication will help the best, it's unpredictable. Many people adore Verapamil and think it works great.
1225040 tn?1274025598 I remember my dad having to take a tranquilizer towards the end because of so much chest pain. I was wondering if maybe that would help me. I had a better day yesterday, but this morning I did have a spasm when I woke up. And myheart continue to feel slightly bruised, and I have a slight tightness in the center of my chest. Not sure what that is all about.
Avatar n tn I take Warfarin and aspirin, but I have chronic AFib, so the chance of it causing a blood clot is too high to ignore, still it is only about 3% a year for me.
