1001742 tn?1252685847 Escitalopram belongs to the group of medications called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). It is used to treat depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). It works by increasing levels of a neurotransmitter called serotonin in the brain. Increased serotonin levels can lead to an improved mood. I was prescibed this for my anxiety by my family doctor although I'm not sure if I should take this if I will **** dirty at the meth clinic.
Avatar f tn It is safe for you to take citalopram with Imodium, there is no drug interaction between the two medications.
Avatar f tn Hi, yeah what Paxiled says is true. SSRIs and SNRIs don't seem to have food interaction. The odd one will tekk you to avoid raspberry or grapefruit juice, but that's it. If you want an appetite Citalopram encourages food consumption. Have tried most SSRIs and snris, although everyone's experience, side effects etc are mostly different.
Avatar n tn Sometimes antidepressants are used to treat the pain of IBS (however I have never heard of CIralopram doing this). You might want to consider going on a med that is technically an antidepressant, but is used at a different dose for treating pain associated with IBS. Examples of this would include Amitriptyline and Nortriptyline. Acidophilus is a group of probiotics.

Avatar f tn Hi, all - I've been absent from the boards for a while, but now I've been dealing w/ my 'new' meds for a few months. I'm on Citalopram (10 mg) and Valium (2 mg daily, 3 if I need the extra at night), in addition to BP meds (atenolol and lisinopril, and a baby aspirin.). I've been seeing a psychiatrist now for about 7 months, and because I'm pretty sensitive to the meds, she has been very good about taking things slow.
732401 tn?1231613448 I would only add that you might consider a trial of the anti anxiety medication to see what happens to your symptoms before you go on to exam the brain tumor issue, and if your symptoms go away, then you and your doctor may decide not to go any further.
Avatar f tn Citalopram is an antidepressant drug used to treat depression associated with mood disorders. It is also used on occasion in the treatment of body dysmorphic disorder and anxiety. Citalopram belongs to a class of drugs known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). It is sold under the brand-names Celexa™ (U.S., Forest Laboratories, Inc.), Cipramil™ , Citrol™, Seropram™ (Europe and Australia), Recital™ (Israel, Thrima Inc. for Unipharm Ltd.
Avatar f tn Zoloft (Sertraline) and Celexa (Citalopram) are in a slightly different class known as Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) but are also used to treat depression with similar side effects. Cymbalta, another SNRI is a medication that may work for you. With depression people respond differently to each medication and there is no way to tell if a medication will work unless you try it and give approximately 2-4 weeks for the medication to begin working.
Avatar f tn Nail biting has been shown to respond well to certain types of medication. The medications used to treat the problem include the newest, most potent anti-depressants. These medications are also used to treat Trichotillomania and OCD and include clomipramine, fluoxetine (prozac), sertraline, paroxetine, fluvoxamine, citalopram, escitalopram, nefazodone and venlafaxine. These new generation antidepressants - the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors - are really safe. I'm on them myself.
644988 tn?1236364548 I have been on Quetiapine for 3 yrs and have had the same problem. It doesn't matter what the temperture is I just break out in a sweat.. I'm still not used to it. I've tried getting my pdoc to take me off of it but he feels that it is working for me. So I just tolerate it.
Avatar f tn Hi all, I'm a sixteen year old girl with really bad anxiety and OCD. When I was a little kid, I had a phobia of choking for four years, which got so bad that I stopped eating solid food entirely, and had panic attacks if I was around "choking hazards" (small toys, beads, etc). It was mainly about breathing, not choking itself, since I was also very scared of drowning, suffocating, having a heart attack, etc.
581954 tn?1223391496 I have used this in the past and it is a type of medication grouped into SSRIs (Zoloft (Sertraline), Paxil, Prozac, Lexapro, etc. These affect people in different ways, so it is sometimes hard to say how each individual will react. I am a big proponent for these types of medications COMBINED with talk therapy. In my opinion, there is no 'magic pill' that will 'cure' you of anxiety or depression.
Avatar m tn Another important think to know is that it takes time. It could take up to 6 weeks for you to show signs of improvement. You need to work with your Dr and let them know whats happening. If there is no improvement during that time they will probably switch you to something else. How long have you been on it and how many mg?
Avatar f tn are you WD from valium? if that is the case I would go to ER to get enough to hold you over until you can go into to see your doctor. Benzo WD can be awful and dangerous at certain times. best of luck.
Avatar f tn t proved amenable to other meds, but it is used nowadays by some docs to augment another antidepressant, but again, if the original drug isn't working, there's nothing to augment.
Avatar f tn Can an allergic reaction to citalopram really cause all my issues, I have been taking them for just over 2 month
Avatar n tn I have a question. Are drugs in the benzo family ever used to treat seizures? As in Xanax, Klonopin, Valium, Ativan, Restoril, etc? I have simple partial seizures and was on xanax on an "as needed" basis to control some nervousness about going back to college. I was on it for about 2 months. I started realizing I got less of my sensory and motor seizures which have always been uncontrollable since I started getting them back in 2000.
732401 tn?1231613448 But each individuals body chemistry is different and the only way to know, how you will react to a med is take it, some have great experiences, while others not so good, share the pro's and con's with your doctor. If this med does not work out for you, then you can try others, till you find the right medication to treat your symptoms.
Avatar f tn The sex drive is good to know. Citalopram also gave me that side effect. I am glad the Wellbutrin did not make you gain weight. I wonder how long until it is out of my system. The doctor said if i quit cold turkey on Citalopram, it can cause bad side effects. That's why I am taking half a pill of it. I know you are not a doctor, or maybe you are, but how long until you think the Citalopram is out of my system? Thanks!
