Does anyone know what to take for an alternative to Aggrenox? I had a TIA almost 4 years ago and was put on Aggrenox, well, my husband will be losing his job in a week due to the economy which also means we will be losing our health insurance as well. I asked my doctor if he could take me off it and put me on something else and all he said was he would prefer I stayed on Aggrenox. I don't think we can afford it because it is $305 for a month supply!
Aggrenox does have aspirin in it. It is recommended for strokes, as you already know. I'm not sure why the Dr has taken away the Aggrenox. Maybe he feels that taking aspirin is equivalent with less side effects? Aspirin does work well to help prevent stokes and heart attacks. So, there was no reason given for the change?
I have been taking a baby aspirin for some years and subsequently had a stroke/ruptured aneurysm and TIA recently. The doctor prescribed Aggrenox and I take it twice a day.
I take 16 or 17 medications including the all inclusive plavix. a 3.25 aspiriin. AGGRENOX,Zocor,and a host of others.I watch my diet and exercise until it hurts to prove to my Dr. that I'm not just lying around. With your "scientific ' MINDS can you help?

When felt stronger, I tried to take my BP but unable to obtain more than an error message for 2 hours and then 89/56 (used 2 machines with same unreadable results)... rested most of the morning as it slowly increased... when reached 125/70, felt okay to take my morning meds... pressure this morning was 120/70 and have had no more extreme weakness although have noticed I tire and become out of breath easily...had a cath at 47 with no build up and no stents... and have no chest pain.

I am having an EPI/Steriod shot for a hernatiated disc in my neck, I need to know what i can not eat or drink that my cause my blood to thin. Went yesterday and the procedure could not be preformed. What is causing chronic, severe itching since my father's stroke? --ischemic stroke, right side brain, left side paralysis. My 80 yr old father had a stroke 4 months ago. About 1-1/2 months ago he started experiencing mild itching on his legs and has now become chronic all over his body. Most of his meds have rash and itching side effects. Aggrenox was just changed to Plavix, but the itching has not stopped. 325mg of aspirin is also a future consideration as a blood thinner.
