Avatar m tn I am currently on a waiting list for Valve replacement on the Aorta as i have what is known as a reguritation of the aorta. I have been given two options a metal valve which i would have to take medication called Warfarin for the rest of my life. Or i could have a pigs valve fitted which i would have to have replaced every 15-17 years. Please could someone help me with the decision of which one to have, i dont like the idear of the medication but is this a wise move thanks!!
Avatar f tn I take warfarin everyday. I had aortic valve replacement in 2001 and had an artificial heart valve installed. The downside to that is I will have to take blood thinners for the rest of my life because of the artificial valve. That is not the case with a tissue valve. It has really not had any affect on me at all. The one thing that I know warfarin affects is Vitamin K. Vitamin K is what causes your blood to clot. Therefore the warfarin cancels out some of the Vit.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with RHD (mitral stenosis) and had mitral valvotomy done in 1988(open heart surgery/splitting open the mitral flaps) when Im 30 as I was planning for a family. I'm 51 yo now and I underwent gastroscopy & colonscopy at a hospital in Mar2010 as I was experiencing food poisoning and abdomenal distension, Results were clear except for a minor ucler in the small intestinal wall. A month later, my legs swelled and I was warded for CCF and atrial fribillation.

Avatar f tn continue warfarin therapy, withhold warfarin therapy for a period of time before and after the procedure, or temporarily withhold warfarin therapy and also provide a "heparin bridge" during the perioperative period. Which management option to follow is primarily determined by the characteristics of the patient and by the nature of the procedure.
Avatar m tn I have undergone aortic valve replacement surgery in 2003. Until 2 months back I was taking 150mg Ecosprin and 5mg Warfarin daily, then I was diagnosed with Hepatitis E and my INR value increased suddenly, so my doctor cut on the warfarin for few days until it dropped to <1.5 and then I started taking my warfarin again but my INR didn't increase. 2 weeks back my doctor increased my dose from 5 to 6mg but still my INR value is 1.4 and it is not increasing from past 2 months. Please help.
233622 tn?1279334905 The clearance of R-warfarin is generally half that of S-warfarin, thus as the volumes of distribution are similar, the half-life of R-warfarin is longer than that of S-warfarin. The half-life of R-warfarin ranges from 37 to 89 hours, while that of S-warfarin ranges from 21 to 43 hours. Studies with radiolabeled drug have demonstrated that up to 92% of the orally administered dose is recov-ered in urine. Very little warfarin is excreted unchanged in urine.
Avatar n tn have been on Warfarin since my mitral valve replacement last April (2017). My periods used to be regular (every 26 days), lasted only 3-4 days & were not very heavy. In the past 5 months, maybe because the Warfarin kicked in, my periods became unbearably long (between 10- 13 dats), extremely heavy (I need to wear 4 Super pads & change every 2 hours) & irregular pattern (sometimes 2, 3 or 4 weeks between cycles).
Avatar n tn My dad was 66 and had a tissue valve replacement in 1981 and later in 2001 he got another valve replacement with Mechanical. He was a surgeon and lived a very active life. He was also on Warfarin after his second surgery. Last December, he had sore throat for three weeks and one day he vomitted and in like 15 mintues he passed away. I am not surre if his tissue valve failed or something else.
Avatar n tn I have had mitrol valve replacement and my inrs have changed I was 3.6 now I am 2.0 what could cause it to change?I take 2.5 dosage daily for almost 3 years..I have had surgery in 2010 to replace my mitrol vaveand have been taking warfarin sodium 2.
Avatar n tn ve tried to read as much as I can about warfarin along the way. I even went to a day-long CEU workshop for medical professionals on warfarin management and got the certificate. But I'm still not an expert. To my way of thinking, the experts are the hematologists, pharmacists, and other health professionals who manage large numbers of people's warfarin on a daily basis.
Avatar n tn Futher to discussion re warfarin & eyebleeds (bleeds in eye), I have fairly frequent eybleeds which I find rather scary! The bleed usually continues for at least 2 days & takes over a week to clear. They have become worse & more frequent since I started on warfarin 2005. My INR tends to fluctuate & on 17/12/08 was 2.37. My current warfarin dose is 8 mg daily. Does this problem get worse over time?
Avatar n tn My son has been on warfarin since he was 7 weeks old due to having a mechanical Mitral valve replacement. His INR today is 4.8. The highest it's ever been.He is six months now and just starting solids which may be why the INR has been all over the place. I have been instructed to withhold his dose tonight and I'll test him again tomorrow. I've been doing some reading that INR of 4.8 is undesirable but not overly dangerous. Is that the case for babies as well?
Avatar m tn AVR, i got Aeortic Valve Replacement Surgery on 19-11-2006 after 4months of surgery i got irregular beating and i got disturbed i went to doctor he advice to make 24 hrs holter then he found some irregular beatings then he prescribed me a medicine "Tenormin 25mg 1/2 tab twice a day i am ok with that but if i forgot sometime to take the medicine it starts again and past few days evethough i am taking medicine there is irregular beats i am afraid is there is any solution to get relief from t
Avatar f tn I have recently been put on Warfarin for Paroxysmal Atrial Fib. I feel miserable and anxious on this drug. They continue to up my dose, 11mg. at present. Avatar m tn 2009-12-20 she had left ventricular failure and was confirmed severe mitral stenosis. Mitral valve replacement was done on 2009-12-27. But since the doctors cannot find the appropriate size of the artificial mitral valve, size 17 aortic valve was used . The medication after discharge: warfarin, spironolactone, capoten. 3. The follow-up ultrasound on 2010-7-4 showed severe left ventricular outflow stenosis. 4.
325086 tn?1217971180 Mike H thought it would be a good idea for me to post this link to the Warfarin study. I've been on it since Aortic Valve replacement in 1993..........I did not know I had Hep C until 2002, so all those years, I drank like a Sailor, and even after I found out, I continued to imbibe, I just cut way back. As Mike said, this is a very interesting study. It could be that my Warfarin usage has protected me all these years.
Avatar n tn First off make absolutely sure you clear this with your heart doc if you are going to attempt to make changes especially when its alternative medicine because it may end up working against you rather than for you. I understand your feelings on coumadin tho and in looking for an alternative if one is out there that may work for you but for gosh sake Yoda make sure that you run it past your doc first because it could end up being more harmful than helpful....
Avatar f tn I am 34 and had an aortic valve replacement in 2003 (St. Jude Valve). I could write a book about what has happened to me since (several minor surgeries & procedures) but my largest issue is that I cannot get theraputic. My INR will not go above 1.5/1.6. And yes, I know all about the Vit K interactions and anything else that is possible to Google about interactions.
Avatar m tn Heparin was tried instead of warfarin but this caused the valves to have problems and valve replacement was necessary in many cases, some even fatal.
Avatar m tn I had aortic valve replacement at the end of Jan. this year, tissue. Also the tricuspid valve was repaired and a bypass. My pulse is still 130. I thought my pulse would go down sooner but it is still crazy high. I am on warfarin and plavix. I am 61 and used to be very active. Never had other health issues. Allergic to metropol, and have low blood pressure. 98/60 usually. I have had Echos and EKG and x-rays.
Avatar f tn Any information would be helpful/I have had open heart surgery and a mitral valve replacement, stents, 2heart attacks, and coronary artery disease. im on warfarin, lipitor and plavix. im looking for other things to do to improve my heart health, like going to gym, eliminating salt intake and dietry changes and im just concerned with safety and drug interactions.will taking fish oil, flaxseed, and making parsley herbal tea be safe or should they be avoided?.
Avatar m tn In March my Mother had a replacement pacemaker box fitted. As soon as she came back to the ward she complained of intense pain in her sternum, she was told by the nurses that she was suffering from indigestion, they gave her Gaviscon. Although she was still in pain they discharged her two hours later.
2059648 tn?1439766665 I have had a TSH of around 23 for over ten years and have never taken thyroid hormone replacement. Over the last few years my thyroid nodule of concern has grown. From 2.4 to 3.2. I have had numerous fine needle biopsies. None cancerous. A month ago I went into afib for the first time and was hospitalize. The issue of the thyroid came up and that it could have contributed to the afib. So, I now will be seeing a surgeon to see about getting my thyroid removed.
