in earlier forums you have suggested carbonated beverages both cola and white soda are unhealthy. Does this apply to quinine water? My neurologist has suggested for cramping relief.
Given that yesterday he said to not take the warfarin he was changing me from the genertic warfarin and putting me on the brand name of the med coumadin. Said some folks do not tolerate warfarin well but do well on coumadin and i am to start the coumadin today. I would be lying if i didn't say i am a bit gunshy at this point. This med has made me absolutely miserable and today is my 43rd bday...
In June of 2007 the FDA took action concerning quinine-containing drugs. It did approve a quinine drug product some years earlier solely for the treatment of malaria caused by a parasite. In the 2007 report the FDA
said, "Quinine is associated with a variety of serious adverse events, some of them potentially fatal."

I thought Quinine the drug was taken off the market in the US? Is the quinine in the soda the same that was in the Quinine drug I got for leg cramps years ago?
Quinine used to be a prescription drug, to have it in a tonic water would be great but is this possible, I mean I know it's possible but I don't think they're one and the same.
They said the FDA made them discontinue using real Quinine in 1985. What they call Quinine now is artificial and used just for flavor but not made from tree bark like it used to be. So drink all you like. I enjoy it on the rocks with lime, all the time and I'm not sure but it might help stop my legs from cramping!

ve tried to read as much as I can about warfarin along the way. I even went to a day-long CEU workshop for medical professionals on warfarin management and got the certificate. But I'm still not an expert. To my way of thinking, the experts are the hematologists, pharmacists, and other health professionals who manage large numbers of people's warfarin on a daily basis.

3 days later (boxing day) I was rushed to hospital with chest pains and diagnosed with self imposed pulmonary embolism. I was put on to Warfarin and monitored in hospital for 2 weeks.
t know how warfarin is affecting your life style. I have been on warfarin for years and had no concerns about running and bike riding, and using power wood working tools. All of these activities puts one at an increased risk of a cut and bleeding, but I simply take the risk. On the other hand, I don't sky dive, or pick fights ....
