1069105 tn?1256700412 What should be the proper treatment regimen? Shouldn’t she be taking BP meds other than statins, especially while on Warfarin? And aren’t blood thinners possibly contra-indicated by her history? Could her reduction in pain on the shoulder cause by the anti-inflammatory effect of the statin ? I have read numerous articles regarding the dangers of statins and am very concerned.
1488195 tn?1288153991 I'm 85 and have been on Warfarin for 3 years. #1 - Is this the best treatment? #2 - Even taking thinners, can I stroke out at any time?
Avatar m tn take your meds - if you have permanent AF I would guess you're on a beta blocker, and warfarin or aspirin ? Xarelto is a newer warfarin alternative but not if you have had valve problems. My wife has had AF for about 10 years and takes these meds and just lives with it. As itdood says, just do the best you can and don't let it control your life. Don't worry about a single episode of VT, it probably won't happen again.
Avatar m tn Following the new findings in mouse models, the Imperial College London researchers are now embarking on a clinical trial of warfarin as a treatment for people with Hepatitis C, funded by the Medical Research Council (MRC). There are an estimated 300,000 people in the UK with chronic Hepatitis C. The disease progresses much more quickly in some patients than in others and around one in five of those infected will develop cirrhosis.
770426 tn?1235061489 Try writing down when you take your meds. I do that, also have one of those compartmented pill boxes and when the pills are gone I know I've taken them. You want to very careful with warfarin, an overdose could be dangerous. I have been on warfarin 2-1/2 years with no more than my normal headaches.
Avatar f tn Eliquis which belongs to a class of drugs called Factor Xa inhibitors is a new generation oral anticoagulant / blood thinning drug and is expected to replace warfarin the current gold standard treatment for stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation. The clinical data on Eliquis in atrial fibrillation is most impressive, when compared to Xarelto or Pradaxa.
738075 tn?1330575844 OK, so I'm recovering from my 3rd attack this year, and last Friday I started having R ankle and leg pain. I figured I had CRPS from all the spasms in my legs. But Nooooo - You ready for this? Deep Venous Thrombosis!! Sheesh, so now I'm on rat poison (Warfarin) for the next 6 months on top of everything else! I really don't think this year can get much worse - thank goodness it's almost over!
Avatar m tn ll be on propafenon or rhythmol to help keep me there. I take coumadin (warfarin) but then I am in permanent AFib... and suffer some of the same symptoms you mention... I am 70.
1013028 tn?1250923267 Thrombosis can be prevented with heparin administration and treated with heparin and warfarin. If clots occur heparin followed by warfarin ( coumadin )is usually prescribed. Higher-than-usual doses of warfarin may be needed. Warfarin or Coumadin is prescribed to prevent strokes arising from atrial fibrillation and DVTs forming in the legs usually.
351404 tn?1299489130 I have watched my husband go from paroxysmal to permanent AF without treatment and he is on Warfarin for ever. Warfarin makes me sleepless and also makes my hair fall out. At present I am just on low dose aspirin and Bisoprolol. I suppose I am willing to risk ablation not curing me, but fear becoming one of those who report their condition became worse, ie pains etc.
Avatar m tn You have a lot going on in your body that could make you feel bad, beside taking warfarin, and the warfarin is probably the least likely culprit. The amount of warfarin that any given individual has to take to stay within an INR range of 2.0 to 3.0 (which is probably what the doctors mean when they tell you they want you at 2.5) will vary, depending on how rapidly that person's body can metabolize and excrete the warfarin.
1679243 tn?1307674938 This is more of a question about Warfarin, Plavix, blood thinning treatment ect... I was swimming yesterday with my kids and was rubbing my eyes a good bit. Afterwards my wife noticed my left eye was bleeding, not pouring blood but there is blood in the white part of my eye. Doesn't hurt or bother me it's just a nice size blood spot. I've been on Warfarin and Plavix and a daily baby aspirin for over 6 months to treat my heart disease.
Avatar n tn Futher to discussion re warfarin & eyebleeds (bleeds in eye), I have fairly frequent eybleeds which I find rather scary! The bleed usually continues for at least 2 days & takes over a week to clear. They have become worse & more frequent since I started on warfarin 2005. My INR tends to fluctuate & on 17/12/08 was 2.37. My current warfarin dose is 8 mg daily. Does this problem get worse over time?
Avatar m tn Hi. I've been on these boards a long time. My last failed treatment had to fail because about 9 weeks into the treatment, I developed retinal hemmorhaging. My husband (we've divorced now, but not because of this). He had to do my shot that night into the back of the forearm because I felt so awful. As he prepared the medication, I had to keep correcting what he was doing.
Avatar n tn There are biological treatments that can either dissolve the vegetations (clots) or at a minimum, stabilize it until the body can eliminate the clot. Anticoagulant medication (heparin, warfarin, etc.) can prevent any further clotting (stabilize) or a more potent agent (streptokinase, urokinase, tPA, etc,) which actively dissolve clots. Can be delievered with minimum intervention directly to the site of interest or no intervention with injection to the blood stream.
Avatar f tn E., said that she had to prescribe more warfarin for me than she ever had to for any other patient in her 20 year career. She specializes in treating post-operative emboli. Every week I had my blood drawn to gauge how much my warfarin dosage should be. Every week for months it was increased. My blood just didn't seem to easily thin. My doctor was very nervous about the dosage that I finally had to take--it was so high. Is there a corelation with that and my fibro?
Avatar f tn There is evidence from studies that in patients over the age of 75, there is increased risk of extracranial bleeding (outside the head) compared to treatment with warfarin. Advantages include no need for routine monitoring, and standard dosing. However, disadvantages include difficulty with reversal if bleeding occurs, and cost. Xarelto (rivaroxaban) is a newer drug which is approved for afib not due to valve abnormalities (like Pradaxa), and prevention of DVT after orthopedic surgery.
