warfarin onset

So they want to do surgical cardioversion but an X ray and echo showed my upper heart chambers are filled with pooled blood.... and the fear of clotting has meant I am now on warfarin for 5 weeks to thin the blood before they will do the cardioversion... also I am on beta blockers to keep the heart rate down, though they still cant keep it below 90 my usual was 60-65.

1) has anyone else experienced over dosage of blood thinners ( warfarin or bradax) with brain lining thinning and the onset of dementia symptoms? 2) how can i convince my mother's specialist to reduce the bradax dosage...his main cocern is lawsuits and mi e is my mother's welfare...

I don't know Atelenol, but I do know Metoprolol and AFib. I am currently living with AFib and taking medications only to control, lower, my heart rate (HR). Metoprolol does the latter, as well as given unwanted lowering of my blood pressure (BP). So I am treating AFib as a condition that is treated for "rate control" and for "clot prevention", I also take warfarin.

Given that yesterday he said to not take the warfarin he was changing me from the genertic warfarin and putting me on the brand name of the med coumadin. Said some folks do not tolerate warfarin well but do well on coumadin and i am to start the coumadin today. I would be lying if i didn't say i am a bit gunshy at this point. This med has made me absolutely miserable and today is my 43rd bday...

I am 58 yrs old woman. Five years ago I had a sudden onset of acute ischemic colitis. No cardiac issues were present at that time. Approx. 6 mos. later I suffered an episode of syncope followed by a second bout of ischemia; at that time a heart arrythmia was diagnosed as well as a PFO. The PFO has not been closed. Neither my gastroenterologist nor my cardiologist can say with any certainty that the bouts of ischemia are directly related to the cardiac issue.

Clearly your question is one for your doctor to answer. In my experience with Warfarin, and I get along well with it, aspirin is much easier to deal with if it is sufficient. I don't know the relationship between having a pacemaker and needing Warfarin. Warfarin is a blood anticoagulant (thinner) as I'm sure you know. I take my warfarin before bed, so my time off warfarin is more like 1.5 days than two days. I go back on warfarin right after the exam, may take 7.5 mg instead of the usual 5 mg to get back on INR faster. you have to think of the worse case senario of switching to warfarin having the warfarin be too strong and your wife getting a bleed of some kind. This could be in her GI track, brain etc. and can be very life-threatening and could cause huge hospital bills. So, depending on how long she will have to take the plavix for, and what she is taking it for, it may actually be less expensive to use the plavix.

The Plavix is widely advertised and available in the USA. I have discussed with my cardiologist in past years. He said, no way is it a substitute fo warfarin... but again I tolerate warfarin well. But too, I've never had any severe cuts while on warfarin.
