Avatar f tn 3 days later (boxing day) I was rushed to hospital with chest pains and diagnosed with self imposed pulmonary embolism. I was put on to Warfarin and monitored in hospital for 2 weeks.
Avatar m tn The most common anticoagulation drug prescribed after heart valve surgery is warfarin (Coumadin). The newer blood thinners are apixaban and dabigatran, also known as Pradaxa and are expensive. The main concern is that specific antidotes for bleeding are available for warfarin but not yet developed for the new drugs. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn Hello, Dermatitis, urticaria, alopecia, rash, bullous eruptions, pruritus, and pallor have been reported infrequently with use of warfarin. If you are having these symptoms after use of warfarin then you can talk to your physician and get dabigatran prescribed as an alternative to warfarin. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar f tn I am 16 weeks pregnant and have had an Mitral Valve replacement around 20 yrs back - I am on Lovenox and now due to my heart condition my doc recommended I switch to Warfarin - I wanted to know if there is anyone out there who ahs taken warfarin in the second trimester and what are the outcomes? Please I will really apreciate it. I am so apprehensive but I know it will help my heart since i had 2 mini strokes recently. Please anyone out there?????
Avatar m tn t know how warfarin is affecting your life style. I have been on warfarin for years and had no concerns about running and bike riding, and using power wood working tools. All of these activities puts one at an increased risk of a cut and bleeding, but I simply take the risk. On the other hand, I don't sky dive, or pick fights ....
1569985 tn?1328247482 I am going to a different hospital for oncology and they want me to discontinue Warfarin 7 days before and use a Lovenox bridge injection for the interim. I called my regular EP and they say no need. What would you do? 7 days seems a long time without blood thinner -- I'm on it because I'm at risk for strokes, right? Any comments and/or advice would be welcome. Also, any pep talks welcome!

Avatar m tn heparin is used because it acts immediately. Warfarin might be given, but it takes a day or two to begin working. But heparin is given by injection or instead usually by IV, so it's not practical except when the patient is in the hospital. Warfarin is oral. IV is better because the dose that is delivered to the bloodstream is more sure. Injecting heparin into the body can results in variable dosing, depending on the nature of where the heparin is injected (e.g.
Avatar f tn What are the diffirance but the fact one is a pill and other injection. What is safer and better? Thank you!
Avatar n tn continue through with warfarin, or to stop the warfarin and bridge in between with enoxaparin or heparin (as snconorm had done). http://www.circ.ahajournals.org/cgi/content/full/116/22/2531 So continuing through with warfarin seems to be the newer strategy. What would NOT be done is to stop anticoagulation altogether.
Avatar n tn Reclast is an injection to retard the progression of bone loss caused by osteoporosis and osteopenia, both of which, makes me vulnerable for bone fractures (not to mention pain) even without an injury. Some people have experienced arrythmia as a side effect of the reclast injection. I have atrial fibrillation which is an arrythmic problem that can produce a stroke or heart attack, if not corrected.
Avatar f tn Hi i suffer from blood clots i suffered a PE, arterial clots and dvt all at the same time, i also clotted while on warfarin in hospital so the doctors want my inr higher than most between 2 and 3. My last inr results were 2.9 and i take 8mg of warfarin.
351404 tn?1299489130 it lasted for a couple of days, spontaneously reverted (as it always does so far) and I was placed on Warfarin. Two AF free months later, I was taken off Warfarin and put on low dose daily aspirin. Now bradycardia has also been diagnosed and a future pacemaker is on the cards if my condition worsens. I write to ask what is the alarm level at which I ought to seek further intervention.
Avatar n tn 6 months - after a year she is pregnant again (6 weeks) - she is on warfarin from when she is 16 (she was diagnose with antifosfolipied syndrome) and must used clexane every time she got pregnant - my question is, is this save to used this for the whole pregnancy and the growing baby and what bother me the most is that her feet is swolling and very painfull ( clexane 1 week using), can that be the injection ????? we know that the pregnancy is a high risk!
Avatar n tn There are biological treatments that can either dissolve the vegetations (clots) or at a minimum, stabilize it until the body can eliminate the clot. Anticoagulant medication (heparin, warfarin, etc.) can prevent any further clotting (stabilize) or a more potent agent (streptokinase, urokinase, tPA, etc,) which actively dissolve clots. Can be delievered with minimum intervention directly to the site of interest or no intervention with injection to the blood stream.
Avatar f tn A person on warfarin with an inr of 1.2 is not at risk of bleeding out. They are at risk for a clot. People not on warfarin normal range of about 1 because they don't have a bleeding or clotting disorder, thus 1 is normal. I take 10 MG a day everyday and my inr was 2.2 just today. It all depends o. The reason behind taking it.
Avatar f tn Given that yesterday he said to not take the warfarin he was changing me from the genertic warfarin and putting me on the brand name of the med coumadin. Said some folks do not tolerate warfarin well but do well on coumadin and i am to start the coumadin today. I would be lying if i didn't say i am a bit gunshy at this point. This med has made me absolutely miserable and today is my 43rd bday...
Avatar n tn This is exactly what I read in The Coumadin (Warfarin) Help Book. Since my husband has been taking his Warfarin before his evening meal & his INR has been keeping fairly level. And that's good news, we want no more Strokes.
Avatar f tn DOES ANYONE KNOW IF WARFARIN CAN LOWER YOUR BLOOD COUNT AND AND ALSO LOWER CALCIUM AND VITAMIN D LEVELS?
Avatar n tn ve tried to read as much as I can about warfarin along the way. I even went to a day-long CEU workshop for medical professionals on warfarin management and got the certificate. But I'm still not an expert. To my way of thinking, the experts are the hematologists, pharmacists, and other health professionals who manage large numbers of people's warfarin on a daily basis.
942410 tn?1274047074 Clearly your question is one for your doctor to answer. In my experience with Warfarin, and I get along well with it, aspirin is much easier to deal with if it is sufficient. I don't know the relationship between having a pacemaker and needing Warfarin. Warfarin is a blood anticoagulant (thinner) as I'm sure you know. It is taken to reduce clot formation caused by something line Atrial Fibrillation or mechanical heart valves.
