Avatar f tn 3 days later (boxing day) I was rushed to hospital with chest pains and diagnosed with self imposed pulmonary embolism. I was put on to Warfarin and monitored in hospital for 2 weeks.
Avatar f tn My father is a survivor of colon cancer. Unfortunately he has complications from that and/or chemotherapy. He has blood clots in his lungs that haven't dissolved yet (They've tried Warfarin, heparin, etc.). He was not accepted as a candidate for surgery to remove the clots as they are too deep in his lungs. He said the doctor said his is a part of 2% of people who do not have the enzyme to dissolve clots. Is there anything out there (even clinical meds) that could dissolve them?
Avatar n tn t too sure where to post this, I have been taking a daily dose of tinzaparin for the last 4 months to treat my bilateral pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis, and i have noticed my hairline receding and my overall head of hair thinning.
Avatar m tn and im on warfarin ( blood thinner)? any info on this..thanks james......i have d.vt. had a pulmonary embolism in 2000.
Avatar f tn I have an interest due to my mum being diagnosed with a large brain AVM. She had a pulmonary embolism last week (no known cause) and is currently receiving warfarin and heparin injections. I am concerned that these drugs may not be suitable for an AVM person. She hasn't yet seen a consultant to determine treatment options for the AVM. I also wonder whether the PE could be connected to the AVM.
Avatar n tn There are 3 serious medical conditions (right-side heart failure, uncontrolled bleeding, and clots (pulmonary embolism and thrombosis) that requires consideration when prescribing medication. Anticoagulants are effective in preventing pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis, but there is a risk for bleeding. More than 80 percent of patients with massive PE die within the first two hours after onset, mainly from right-sided heart failure.
Avatar f tn Two years ago I had a stenosis in my small intestine which required surgery to correct.Seven months ago I had a pulmonary embolism and I am told this may have been the second one.I am taking 7 mg of warfarin a day and my INR is 2.5.I had a liver transplant 10 months ago,and was told my vascular system was not great.Given my overall situation I am concerned about heart attacks and strokes.Do you think I should be taking 75mg of aspirin a day as well as the warfarin? Thanks.
1488195 tn?1288153991 ). Warfarin is best suited, in areas of slowly-running blood, such as in veins and the pooled blood behind artificial and natural valves, and pooled in dysfunctional cardiac atria. So common clinical indications for warfarin use are atrial fibrillation, the presence of artificial heart valves, deep venous thrombosis (clots), and pulmonary embolism (where the embolized clots first form in veins).
Avatar n tn Ten days after giving birth to my 1st baby I had a pulmonary embolism so had Clexane injections initially along with 6 months of warfarin tablets. I am scared of this happening again so this time I am wanting to have Clexane injections during the pregnancy to prevent. Does anyone know at what stage of pregnancy I am likely to start these injections?
Avatar n tn Hi, I was diagnosed with Pulmonary Embolism 3 years ago with hypercoagulability (genetic) and have been on 2.5mg of Warfarin per day for the past 3 years. I have just had an abdominal scan, and was told that I have a dense, fatty liver. I have tried to eat as healthy as possible, but had to cut a lot of greens out of my diet, as it affected my INR and would have lead to me having to increase my Warfarin dosage. Now I am not sure if this lead to the 'fatty liver'problem.
1013028 tn?1250923267 Blood clots that form in veins (deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism) are mainly made up of clotting proteins and platelets do not play a significant role in venous clots. Coumadin or warfarin is an effective blood thinner that prevens the production of clotting factors in the liver. Anti-platelet drugs like Aspirin or Plavix do not play much of a role in preventing venous clots.
Avatar n tn I am on warfarin with pulmonary embolism for the 2nd time which this time caused right sided heart failure. I experience lately a feeling as if I am going to pass out, it then goes away. Last night I woke up twice with this feeling and I had a rapid heartbeat. Is this something to worry about? Also, is right sided heart failure really curable or will it just get worse over time?
Avatar f tn Warfarin (Coumadin) is prescribed to people with an increased tendency for thrombosis or as secondary prophylaxis (prevention of further episodes) in those individuals that have already formed a blood clot (thrombus). Warfarin treatment can help prevent formation of future blood clots and help reduce the risk of embolism (migration of a thrombus to a spot where it blocks blood supply to a vital organ).
Avatar n tn I recently had 3 pulmonary embolism crisis within the last 2 years and tested positive for tb for the first time. Is there some connection since they both affect the lungs? Since I am already taking coumidin, crestor and niacin, will the 9mnth tb treatment burn out my liver?
Avatar n tn I had a pulmonary embolism and DVT in August and immediately gained 10 pounds in a matter of 2 weeks. I am an avid runner and extremely health conscious. I have read many blogs and forums stating that users of warfarin have experienced this same side affect. Of course, my doctor and pharmacist are not aware of such a side affect and are not able to do anything to help. I have been running 25 miles a week and maintaining a daily caloric intake of less than 1000 calories.
Avatar f tn s nurse recommended this and she was air transported to bigger hospital. Dr in ER thought she had Pulmonary Embolism. Her Dr saw her in hospital today and said she has pneumonia and caused her to have blood coming up when she coughed.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism two and hlf months ago and i still have a dull pain in my chest when i breath, it's like a knot there or tightness and i was just curious if that is normal, i have been on blood thinner after i was diagnosed i just figured it wouldn't feel like that anymore and i feel it mostly in the morning, just wanted to make sure that it's normal or should i go to the hospital?
Avatar f tn ve had pulmonary embolism before I was pregnant. I had 3 clots in one lung and two in the other. It was quite painful and I was treated with warfarin/coumadin pills and eventually the clots dissolved. Warfarin is NOT to be taken when pregnant because it will effect the baby so Lovenox/ heparin shots are often prescribed seeing as it is faster acting and won't reach the baby.
Avatar m tn 9 Months ago I had a DVT, Which broke off and became a PE. The DVT was in my Left Knee, and after 3 months of using Warfarin and several Ultrasounds and VQ Scans Later I was diagnosed as Fine and no more need for the Warfarin.
Avatar n tn What do you want and looking for an argument? I didn't specifically have emboli in mind although images may or may not relevant for emboli.
Avatar n tn Clinical probability assessment in the Prospective Investigation of Pulmonary Embolism Diagnosis study was standard, sometime ago. . With this scoring system, 66.7% of the patients in the high probability group, 20.5% of the patients in the intermediate- probability group, and 3.6% of the patients in the low-probability group were diagnosed with PE [13]. It could be most reassuring if all the additional accumulated evidence supported your not having had a PE.
Avatar f tn I made this switch this past Saturday and last night, I had some sleep issues and nervousness in the middle of the night. I am wondering if the Warfarin and the Lexpro together in my stomach may not be a good thing? Or maybe I just had a bad night. I was a bit anxious yesterday late in the day, perhaps that carried over into my sleep. Not sure, any opinions would be appreciated! Thanks!!
Avatar n tn Hi, please stop worrying, as the symptoms with pulmonary embolism are usually progressive. Embolism is more common in people who are immobilized. Besides if there is a clot in the lungs, it would have showed in the tests done. In the absence of which it’s unlikely that you have clot in the lungs. So, stop worrying. However, if you develop fever or cough or breathlessness, check with your doctor to rule out a respiratory infection. Take care.
Avatar n tn Last Wednesday, 7 days ago, I woke up feeling bad. Like I had the flu but I wasn't sick. Later that night I began having a bad, deep throbbing in my right upper arm/shoulder. My arm was slightly swollen and cold like ice and felt real tight. This has happened before, but not accompanied with pain. I had insurance then and went to the dr and he didn't think or do anything of it. Along with my arm, my left leg was really weird feeling. I don't know how to describe it.
Avatar f tn I do take the birth control pill and I just want to make sure that pulmonary embolism is not a factor? What are the symptoms for that? I'm kind of scared. Advice is appreciated. Thank you!
