Avatar f tn continue warfarin therapy, withhold warfarin therapy for a period of time before and after the procedure, or temporarily withhold warfarin therapy and also provide a "heparin bridge" during the perioperative period. Which management option to follow is primarily determined by the characteristics of the patient and by the nature of the procedure.
Avatar n tn Hello dear and welcome to the medhelp forum. Coumadin is warfarin, an oral anticoagulant and utmost precaution should be taken to prevent any kind of injury especially head injury due to the associated risk of uncontrolled bleeding. Unfortunately, if you have encountered an injury, followed by headache, you need to report to the emergency room immediately along with an attendant due to risk of symptoms worsening rapidly. There is a risk of concussion.
Avatar f tn I recently woke up with subconjunctival hemorrhage in both eyes, I did some google around and Iv read several things stating if it occurs in both eyes at the sane time to call a doctor; why? What is it a sign of compared to just one eye?
Avatar n tn Are you sleeping well? Do you wake up during the night? You could be having nightmares/anxiety attacks that cause your BP to go up. That was the case with me, and I had a brain hemorrhage from it. My doctors couldn't imagine why I had a hemorrhage because I was on BP medicine and my BP was always fine in their office.
Avatar f tn I've heard people in hospital tell the nurse that they refuse to take 'rat poison' and I think it's important to put this into perspective. Warfarin was first developed as a pesticide because it was noted how a small dose of anticoagulant would cause rats and mice to hemorrhage to death. So it was deliberately developed as an anticoagulant and it was found to have other uses, such as saving lives in humans suffering a thrombus.
Avatar n tn ) Few (less than five) punctate areas of abnormal T2 prolongation in the subcortical white matter of the left frontal lobe and left external capsule without restricted diffusion or hemorrhage. Remainder of the study is unremarkable without an intracranial mass, mass effect or midline shift. No evidence of hydrocephalus. No intracranial hemorrhage or extraaxial fluid collection.
Avatar f tn Taking aspirin, ibuprofen or mega-doses of omega-3 can make you more likely to have small bleeds. If you take warfarin, you might consider getting your INR checked to ensure it is not too high. It never hurts to get checked, but I wouldn't rush to the emergency for this problem.
233488 tn?1310693103 While significantly more patients in the warfarin group presented with vitreous hemorrhage associated with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment, they didn’t suffer more perioperative or postoperative complications from vitrectomy compared with controls. The authors believe the risks of stopping warfarin are greater than the perceived benefit of reduced complications, and don’t recommend stopping treatment before vitrectomy.
Avatar f tn No evidence of cortical infarct, intracranial hemorrhage, edema, mass lesion, abnormal, enhancement, or abnormal extraaxial fluid collection. The ventricles are normal and at midline. The paranasal sinuses and the arterial flow voids are patent. No chiari malformation.
Avatar m tn it left me with a blurred vision now and i had a retinal hemorrhage too.doctors put me on warfarin tablet,a blood thinner. my advice.go and see your doctor before something will happen.
Avatar n tn Examination of the brain shows the ventricles to be normal in size and position and there is no evidence of intracerebral mass or hemorrhage. The flair in the T2 weighted sequences show a slight increase in signal in the white matter of both occipital lobes, slightly greater on the left. This suggests the presence of demyelination perhaps on the basis of ischemic change.
Avatar f tn Hi, dad had hemorrhage stroke 7 days ago. Doctor drained the blood out of his right side of the head and left the bone out at the moment. Surgeon said brain looks good and only a few damaged on the right side. He's off sedation 3 days ago, squeezing hands and moving right leg a little bit and blinking. To us, he seems responsive. Neurosurgeon said level of consciousness is 7 which is borderline comatose.
Avatar m tn Most commonly, this is seen as a non-traumatic subconjunctival hemorrhage. Valsalva retinopathy is another distinct and well-documented ocular manifestation of this phenomenon. All of these complications may be seen with increased frequency in patients who use systemic blood thinners (i.e., warfarin).
Avatar f tn Given that yesterday he said to not take the warfarin he was changing me from the genertic warfarin and putting me on the brand name of the med coumadin. Said some folks do not tolerate warfarin well but do well on coumadin and i am to start the coumadin today. I would be lying if i didn't say i am a bit gunshy at this point. This med has made me absolutely miserable and today is my 43rd bday...
Avatar f tn Cisapride, Quinidine, Pimozide, dofetilde, or levacetylmethadol as it can cause fatal heath rhythum with these drugs. Some drugs such as blood thinners (Warfarin/coumadin) will have a much higher affect of the drug and so I would think it would the opposite and cause too much blood thinning and hemorrhage. Is he on Coumadin/Warfarin? If so perhaps it caused a hemorrage and led to stroke but the package insert doesn't mention that specifically.
Avatar n tn This is exactly what I read in The Coumadin (Warfarin) Help Book. Since my husband has been taking his Warfarin before his evening meal & his INR has been keeping fairly level. And that's good news, we want no more Strokes.
Avatar f tn DOES ANYONE KNOW IF WARFARIN CAN LOWER YOUR BLOOD COUNT AND AND ALSO LOWER CALCIUM AND VITAMIN D LEVELS?
Avatar n tn ve tried to read as much as I can about warfarin along the way. I even went to a day-long CEU workshop for medical professionals on warfarin management and got the certificate. But I'm still not an expert. To my way of thinking, the experts are the hematologists, pharmacists, and other health professionals who manage large numbers of people's warfarin on a daily basis.
942410 tn?1274047074 Clearly your question is one for your doctor to answer. In my experience with Warfarin, and I get along well with it, aspirin is much easier to deal with if it is sufficient. I don't know the relationship between having a pacemaker and needing Warfarin. Warfarin is a blood anticoagulant (thinner) as I'm sure you know. It is taken to reduce clot formation caused by something line Atrial Fibrillation or mechanical heart valves.
Avatar f tn 3 days later (boxing day) I was rushed to hospital with chest pains and diagnosed with self imposed pulmonary embolism. I was put on to Warfarin and monitored in hospital for 2 weeks.
Avatar m tn t know how warfarin is affecting your life style. I have been on warfarin for years and had no concerns about running and bike riding, and using power wood working tools. All of these activities puts one at an increased risk of a cut and bleeding, but I simply take the risk. On the other hand, I don't sky dive, or pick fights ....
