1391695 tn?1298139789 The prothrombin time (PT) and its derived measures of prothrombin ratio (PR) and international normalized ratio (INR) are measures of the extrinsic pathway of coagulation. They are used to determine the clotting tendency of blood, in the measure of warfarin dosage, liver damage, and vitamin K status. PT measures factors I, II, V, VII, and X. It is used in conjunction with the activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) which measures the intrinsic pathway.
Avatar m tn I think your question is "what is the best treament for a-fib"? from what I've learned and observed there is no single best pathway to deal with it. There are different options, as there are different causes for a-fib. Finding the best one is sometimes trial and error.
Avatar f tn Based on the level of risk, most patients are either started on aspirin or Warfarin (Coumadin). Clopidogrel (Plavix) is an anti-platelet agent and acts via a different mechanism than coumadin does (coagulation pathway). Adding Clopidogrel to aspirin is a guideline that holds a Class 2b (see below) recommendation, and usually considered in those in which Warfarin is unsuitable due to patient preference or physician's assessment on a patient's ability to safely sustain anticoagulation.
Avatar n tn Plavix is recommended for up to 1 year after stent implants to prevent blood clots for the DESs that have a higher record to clot. Aspirin is recommended indefinitely and there is a different pharmological pathway between the two anticoangulants. Warfarin is one of the most widely used anticoagulant drugs worldwide.
6696547 tn?1383850281 If yes then it can be hereditary. Intrinsic and extrinsic stains can cause yellowish tinge on teeth. Excessive intake of tea/coffee,alcohol,illnesses,excessive intake of fluoride, excessive use of antibiotics during childhood can contribute to a change in the color of the dentine and lead to yellow teeth .Extrinsic stains cause color change on the enamel, or through cracks and fissures on the tooth surface.
Avatar f tn In a dental office setting, we use air polisher to remove extrinsic stain. however, surface of crown is extremely smooth, extrinsic stain is much rarer than natural tooth.
Avatar f tn Dear Doctors, My husband had fontan operation in 1991when he was 13 years old, and he was on warfarin during these years he is 31 years old now and one month ago he had very high palpitation (240) , in hospital they said he had VT but his dr said after one month and result of holter monitoring he had SVT, and he is on satolol now 2 times a day.
114870 tn?1210298346 Extrinsic stain can be removed by prophylaxis procedure. After removal of extrinsic stain, then evaluate if you really need vital bleaching of natural tooth.
Avatar m tn Do your parent’s also have yellow teeth? If yes then it can be hereditary. Intrinsic and extrinsic stains can cause yellowish tinge on teeth. Excessive intake of tea/coffee,alcohol,illnesses,excessive intake of fluoride, excessive use of antibiotics during childhood can contribute to a change in the color of the dentine and lead to yellow teeth Extrinsic stains cause color change on the enamel, or through cracks and fissures on the tooth surface.
Avatar n tn Restrictive lung disease is either intrinsic or extrinsic within the lungs. Intrinsic means that the lungs themselves are causing the restrictive defect, usually from scarring that is preventing the lung from expanding properly with each breath. Some disorders that cause intrinsic restrictive disease are pulmonary fibrosis, sarcoidosis,etc....
874521 tn?1424116797 Acquired arterial conditions include aortic dissection, atheroma, thrombus, embolus, and extrinsic compression (as might be seen in association with a mass in the upper chest). In this case you should have a contrast-enhanced CT of the chest to effectively delineate among the possibilities mentioned above. A vascular ultrasound would be helpful as well, but the CT would better show an extrinsic compression. Here is the link to our heart forum: http://www.medhelp.
967168 tn?1477584489 Had ablation October 2010 (so far successful as am pap free for 5 days now) Take Magnesium 250mg, Somac 40mg and Warfarin 6mg daily (Warfarin ends in 2 weeks) then I will take Primospan 100mg daily.
Avatar n tn I am 19 years old. I am a very short and slender person. When I eat deep fried food, I become deathly ill. I have thrown up from funnel cakes, french fries, and bacon. I even landed in the hospital from eating sweet and sour chicken. I get indigestion a lot, mostly with burps that have vomitlike liquid. This happens when I eat ice cream/milk. I've had an Upper GI done, which shows extrinsic compression on my duodenum. I had a CT scan and an Ultrasound, and they are still clueless.
Avatar f tn Given that yesterday he said to not take the warfarin he was changing me from the genertic warfarin and putting me on the brand name of the med coumadin. Said some folks do not tolerate warfarin well but do well on coumadin and i am to start the coumadin today. I would be lying if i didn't say i am a bit gunshy at this point. This med has made me absolutely miserable and today is my 43rd bday...
Avatar m tn Probably extrinsic staining, ceramic restorations are unlikely to change color.
Avatar f tn I am 72 and have suffered from AFib for about 15 years. I have been on Warfarin all that time, generic for Coumadin. I have been in normal sinus rhythmn during part of that time but remained on Warfarin just in case. I have been in permanent AFib since April 2007, except for about 30 days of NSR following my open heart surgery in 2007 to repair my mitral valve repair. This means my left atrium in ins fibrillation all the time, 24 hours a day.
Avatar n tn This is exactly what I read in The Coumadin (Warfarin) Help Book. Since my husband has been taking his Warfarin before his evening meal & his INR has been keeping fairly level. And that's good news, we want no more Strokes.
Avatar f tn DOES ANYONE KNOW IF WARFARIN CAN LOWER YOUR BLOOD COUNT AND AND ALSO LOWER CALCIUM AND VITAMIN D LEVELS?
Avatar n tn Extrinsic stain can be easily removed by cleaning procedure. The purpose of bleaching is to whiten natual tooth shade.
Avatar n tn ve tried to read as much as I can about warfarin along the way. I even went to a day-long CEU workshop for medical professionals on warfarin management and got the certificate. But I'm still not an expert. To my way of thinking, the experts are the hematologists, pharmacists, and other health professionals who manage large numbers of people's warfarin on a daily basis.
942410 tn?1274047074 Clearly your question is one for your doctor to answer. In my experience with Warfarin, and I get along well with it, aspirin is much easier to deal with if it is sufficient. I don't know the relationship between having a pacemaker and needing Warfarin. Warfarin is a blood anticoagulant (thinner) as I'm sure you know. It is taken to reduce clot formation caused by something line Atrial Fibrillation or mechanical heart valves.
