Can warfarin weaken blood vessels or have adverse effects on the heart or other organs over time?

For instance, I know of someone who had to be on it throughout pregnancy, because she needed anticoagulation therapy, and warfarin has effects on the fetus. I know those shots aren't fun, but I wonder if you could use them from time to time, to give your hands a break.

I haven't read the side effects from Warfarin for some time as I have been taking it for about 15 years.. and I have none of the side effects you list. I am 74, so near your age and I suffer from many of the problems of aging which may be the root "problem", not the Warfarin. There is a newer (out for a few years for use in the USA) that is very different from Warfarin, but I can say I've seen class-action law suits advertized on TV concerning that drug.

5 years my cardiologist suggests me to change to warfarin + asprin theraphy. I am scared of warfarin due to its side effects and risks. What are my risks if I continue with my currrent asprin+clopidogrel dual anticoagulant theraphy? Shall appreciate advice or sharing your experience with these drugs or necessity of changing over from one drug to another?.

Given that yesterday he said to not take the warfarin he was changing me from the genertic warfarin and putting me on the brand name of the med coumadin. Said some folks do not tolerate warfarin well but do well on coumadin and i am to start the coumadin today. I would be lying if i didn't say i am a bit gunshy at this point. This med has made me absolutely miserable and today is my 43rd bday...

Pradaxa is taken twice a day, shorter life in the body and is cleared from the body quicker than coumadin (warfarin). With warfarin, Vitamin K is used to reverse overanticoagulation in patients, there is no antidote for Pradaxa. Warfarin a lot cheaper than Pradaxa. Good luck with your ablation. CoQ-10 is frequently recommended for reducing side effects in patients taking statins ( like Lipitor) and I haven’t heard of anyone on warfarin having issues. I would recommend consulting your doctor first (obviously) and maybe refraining from COQ-10 unless you have some nasty symptoms that you absolutely can’t tolerate which COQ-10 has been shown to alleviate.

5/’09, hospitalized due to methyldopa induced cholestasis, diagnosed w/ A fib. 8/’09, 14 days into Warfarin, she fell (cause unknown), suffering a skull fracture causing an acute subarachnoid and subdural hemorrhage. Initially paralyzed left side & recovered almost 90%. On our request, switched to Aspirin. 12/’09, open cholecystectomy due to acute cholecystitis w/ pigmented gallstones. In 5/’10 , she had a minor stroke.

I believe it could be a FATAL mistake if you stopped taking the warfarin. Mechanical valves will clot without warfarin and this could cause a heart attack, stroke or heart failure and could cause you to have to have another open heart surgery. PLEASE ,PLEASE talk to your doctor about any changes in the warfarin.

I have had 2 additional symptoms from another medicine (not related to my heart) that have become permanent. Now I am afraid to try any other medicine and will try to live with fib and warfarin.

t understand why being on Warfarin would prevent you from going back to work, it has few side effects for most people is held in the INR range of 2-3. If you happen to suffer a cut, you will bleed more because of Warfarin, but most minor cuts are not a problem. The same, to a lesser degree, can be said about aspirin.

Side effects of Warfarin or coumadin include severe headache, dizziness, fainting, unusual or persistent tiredness, bloody/black/tarry stools, chest pain, shortness of breath,difficulty swallowing and swelling or sudden weight gain. If you observe these symptoms, inform your doctor for proper management.Coumadin can cause serious bleeding and this is the reason your INR should be monitored. Take care and do keep us posted.

Hi Jerry - I'm taking 7.5 a day plus a full aspirin. My INR last Tuesday was 2.8 and I go back tomorrow for another check. I'm still getting regulated. I saw something that said to report a headache if it's the worst headache of you life but this is just a miserable, nagging kind all around my eyes and forehead.

What anxiety drugs can I take that do not interact with Warfarin or Metoprolol? I have taken Lorazepam, and while it works quite well, its calming effects are too short lived.

I take Warfarin as follows: 3mg 2xda for 2 da and 4mg 2xda rest of week. Can't seem to get my levels even. Is the dosage too little or not enough?

Is there any benefit in switching to Xeralto? I have heard the Xeralto may have some sever side effects such as dizziness and bleeding in the eye.
