Avatar f tn DOES ANYONE KNOW IF WARFARIN CAN LOWER YOUR BLOOD COUNT AND AND ALSO LOWER CALCIUM AND VITAMIN D LEVELS?
Avatar f tn I am always in the 2-3 range, and guess Warfarin would hold be at 2.5 + if I took 7.5 mg a day. I am not suggesting a dose change, just sharing experience. I eat green vegetables/salads often and it doesn't seem to make any big change. I also take a mulch-vitamin that includes "K", and I wonder if that level addition each day helps stabilize my "K" level against my "K" input due to diet. The supplement I take is a fractional "K" as I recall.
Avatar m tn SDH is subdural hematoma is also commonly seen in the elderly and in alcoholics, who have evidence of cerebral atrophy. It is also more common in patients on anticoagulants, especially aspirin and warfarin. Patients on these medications can have a subdural hematoma with a minor injury and it is abnormal localized collection of blood in which the blood is usually clotted or partially clotted.. The treatment of a hematoma depends on its location and size.
Avatar f tn Coumadin pre-operatively, as you state one considers the risks of hemorrhage or thromboembolism versus the benefit from the operation. When considering noncardiac surgery, these factors and the need to weigh the risk of hemorrhage against that of thromboembolism must analyzed on an individual patient basis. Certain procedures such as a bunion that are not procedure that threatens limb or life are easy analysis.
Avatar m tn go for your regular blood tests and take the required amount of warfarin daily and all should be well and good. I was told at 32 that it was better for me to have the mechanical valve as I would likely need to replace tissue valves every 8-10 years, which didn't appeal to me at all..your heart surgeon may have an opinion on what is best for you with regard to your age/circumstances..Good Luck.
Avatar m tn Am now off warfarin and have to say the anxiety is killing me...lol my safety blanket has been taken away ....
Avatar n tn ginger and glucosamine sulfate will affect coumadin (warfarin) I'm on warfarin and can't take ginger or glucosamine and a host of other supplements.
Avatar f tn Seven months ago I had a pulmonary embolism and I am told this may have been the second one.I am taking 7 mg of warfarin a day and my INR is 2.5.I had a liver transplant 10 months ago,and was told my vascular system was not great.Given my overall situation I am concerned about heart attacks and strokes.Do you think I should be taking 75mg of aspirin a day as well as the warfarin? Thanks.
3287038 tn?1398422427 with aspirin) and/or blood factors that influence clotting (i.e. warfarin). Your mother is taking both aspiring and warfarin which means that she may have an associated history of coronary disease (and aspirin is being used to prevent further blockages to the coronaries or blood vessels supplying the heart muscle) or that she is considered to be at a very high risk of stroke (perhaps due to her age, EF of 25% and Afib) and warfarin by itself isn’t enough.
Avatar n tn She also has uterine fibroids that have been giving her problems, even more so since the warfarin. Between the uterine fibroids and the warfarin, her menses are extremely heavy. She is on iron because she tends to be anemic around her period. Her periods are so heavy that she can go through 4-6 large pads an hour, sometimes more. She feels like she is going to bleed to death at times and it scares her.
Avatar m tn I believe it could be a FATAL mistake if you stopped taking the warfarin. Mechanical valves will clot without warfarin and this could cause a heart attack, stroke or heart failure and could cause you to have to have another open heart surgery. PLEASE ,PLEASE talk to your doctor about any changes in the warfarin.
Avatar f tn Sometimes aspirin is used in place of the Plavix, and the patient will be on aspirin and warfarin. That type of combo regimen is used when the doctor doesn't think that one drug alone is enough to do the job, and one drug obviously wasn't enough in your case. It seems that your Plavix and warfarin regimen is working, so I'll join you in giving thanks for that.
1069105 tn?1256700412 s effect on warfarin is to be consistent with the diet. Warfarin is a vitamin K antagonist, and many foods have vitamin K, e.g. Also research drug interactions. -methyldopa for BP?? does she have some special need to take that outdated and dangerous drug for BP? - determine if being on HTM med is identified as a risk factor, even of BP is thereby controlled - the risk of bleeding.is meant to be on its own.
770426 tn?1235061489 I rarely get headaches (maybe one or two a year) so it is significant to have them every day. A few weeks ago the headaches were on and off but it has been constant since last Friday and seems to be getting worse. I've been trying to ignore it but it is starting to affect my productivity. Did anyone else experience these headaches while on Warfarin? Will they eventually go away or do I have to wait until I come off the drug? Are there any hints to make the headaches better?
Avatar f tn 1) has anyone else experienced over dosage of blood thinners ( warfarin or bradax) with brain lining thinning and the onset of dementia symptoms? 2) how can i convince my mother's specialist to reduce the bradax dosage...his main cocern is lawsuits and mi e is my mother's welfare...
Avatar n tn I have been on Coumadin for 18 years due to Lupus Anticoagulant (Antiphospholipid Syndrome) and several DVTs. In 2005 had MI with occlusion of the LAD artery and had drug stent inserted and I am still on plavix. My doc has debated when to take me off the Plavix safely....what are the recent studies about this dilemma? thanks so much!
Avatar f tn An individual whose blood clots normally and who is not on anticoagulation should have an INR of approximately 1. The higher your INR is, the longer it takes your blood to clot. As the INR increases above a given level, the risk of bleeding and bleeding-related events increases. On the other hand, as the INR decreases below a given level, the risk of clotting events increases.
Avatar f tn You need to let him/her know and ask the doctor prescribing the Warfarin what you should do. This takes all the guesswork out of it for you and it's imperative that they each know what you are about to have done. Take care.
561185 tn?1216075940 I was diagnosed with blood clots in my right calf in May andhave been on Warfarin. My levels are 1.9-1.6 and I was getting better. The swelling stopped about 10 days ago. 3 days ago the swelling came back and is worse than ever. Now I am having a buning stabbing pain in my thigh in the front and it hurts very badly especially when I try to walk. My dr. said it can not be a clot because I am on the warfarin but I am very scared.
Avatar m tn they made it originally to kill rats they would put it in the bait the rats would eat it and they would become thirsty so they would leave the nest for water and bleed to death out in the open and not in the hiding place
Avatar n tn I was put on Warfarin immediately and have been on it ever since. Six weeks after starting the Warfarin, I had another TEE and the clots were 90% gone. They tried for seven and a half hours to do the ablation, but were not successful unfortunately. I will be on the Warfarin forever, but that is fine because you can’t eat leafy green veggies when you are on it and I despise green veggies so now I have the best excuse not to eat them.
612551 tn?1450022175 I have been back on warfarin and aspirin for two days and believe my INR is back in the 2-3 range. In fact I took 50% extra warfarin for the two just past days. The thoughts crossing my mind: I didn't have a stroke, but could there be a clot that just hasn't yet worked its way to a critical point in my body? Now that I am back to the INR 2-3 range would any clots formed be dissolved.
