Avatar m tn For instance, I know of someone who had to be on it throughout pregnancy, because she needed anticoagulation therapy, and warfarin has effects on the fetus. I know those shots aren't fun, but I wonder if you could use them from time to time, to give your hands a break.
Avatar f tn I started taking Pradaxa less thatn a montha ago and am taking the same dosage and noticed the same heartburn and was prescribed Nexium for it. That is one of the side effects. I really did not experience the fatigue but I do have hip pain but I think that is due to skipping the gym for a couple of weeks. I'd call the Doc and let them know what is up.
Avatar m tn I have had 2 additional symptoms from another medicine (not related to my heart) that have become permanent. Now I am afraid to try any other medicine and will try to live with fib and warfarin.
Avatar n tn I haven't read the side effects from Warfarin for some time as I have been taking it for about 15 years.. and I have none of the side effects you list. I am 74, so near your age and I suffer from many of the problems of aging which may be the root "problem", not the Warfarin. There is a newer (out for a few years for use in the USA) that is very different from Warfarin, but I can say I've seen class-action law suits advertized on TV concerning that drug.
612551 tn?1450022175 CoQ-10 is frequently recommended for reducing side effects in patients taking statins ( like Lipitor) and I haven’t heard of anyone on warfarin having issues. I would recommend consulting your doctor first (obviously) and maybe refraining from COQ-10 unless you have some nasty symptoms that you absolutely can’t tolerate which COQ-10 has been shown to alleviate.
Avatar m tn Dear Medical Experts: Brief background: I'm 48, 6'-1", 250lbs, body fat around 22 percent (waist minus neck size). Health issues: During March '10, steep ramp up of monthly bicycling mileage from 240 miles to 700 miles left me with sciatic nerve issues the result in my opinion of the piriformis muscle contacting the sciatic nerve. After the second attack, sought treatment at a spinal sports med clinic. During this period, traveled to Australia from US Pacific Coast.
Avatar f tn , however there are alternate protocols that provide anti-coagulant action with less risk and side effects. You have to bring this mup with your physician. Check out the national database pubmed, which evaluates many alternatives, including simple aspirin.
770426 tn?1235061489 I have been on Coumadin for 6 months now and will be going off soon. I have had to be hospitalized with migraines due to the intensity and am on Gapepentin, which is a medicine for seizures at a dosage of three-100 mg. a day. I was told that migraines are a type of a seizure, as I had never had any history of migraines so I have every reason to believe that the blood thinner either indirectly or directly is playing a huge role..
Avatar n tn I'm not a doctor, just a patient who has been on warfarin for the past eight years. I had a mechanical heart valve implanted in 2004. I'm medically literate, and I've tried to read as much as I can about warfarin along the way. I even went to a day-long CEU workshop for medical professionals on warfarin management and got the certificate. But I'm still not an expert.
233622 tn?1279334905 The clearance of R-warfarin is generally half that of S-warfarin, thus as the volumes of distribution are similar, the half-life of R-warfarin is longer than that of S-warfarin. The half-life of R-warfarin ranges from 37 to 89 hours, while that of S-warfarin ranges from 21 to 43 hours. Studies with radiolabeled drug have demonstrated that up to 92% of the orally administered dose is recov-ered in urine. Very little warfarin is excreted unchanged in urine.
Avatar m tn Both drugs have the same side effects and together and one or the other or both create what I can only describe as chaotic turbulence in my chest and pain in my left arm when the second drug kicks in.. My cardiolgist now wants me to add a blood thinner (xarelto) to my meds menu. Who else has this problem with taking both diltiazem and metoprolol? Is it wise to mix a beta blocker and a calcium channel blocker.
Avatar m tn Hi. A blood pressure of 100/60 is not bad at all. It is considered very good. It used to be that 120/80 was considered normal, but now they say that is borderline high!!!! If you don't mind the feeling of A-fib, then you probably don't really NEED the beta blocker. A-fib is not a lethal rhythm. However, you DO need the warfarin. Aspriin would never control this. Talk to your doctor and tell him you don't like the side effects.
Avatar f tn I passed on the offer to put me on Pradaxa a couple of years back, driven in part by the high cost and the fact I got along well with warfarin, albeit I have the blood test every month with warfarin. I think that is a key benefit of Pradaxa, not need for periodic blood tests.
Avatar m tn I did let my EP guy know about it, and he said just one of the side effects. So I just monitored it and had to not brush my teeth so vigorously. But I ate what I wanted to, no PT/INR checks. Pradaxa works by directly inhibiting the clotting factor thrombin, the amount of vitamin K in the diet does not matter. Pradaxa is taken twice a day, shorter life in the body and is cleared from the body quicker than coumadin (warfarin).
351404 tn?1299489130 Hi, I have been on Bisoprolol for years and have found no side effects except for being tired a bit more for the first few weeks. Your symptoms could be from the Atrial Fibrillation. There are several other beta blockers that you could try though.
Avatar f tn thanks for your reply, i was taking 80mg twice a day, because of my symptoms my cardiologist has reduced this yesterday to 40mg twice a day, i have never had chest problems till i started taking sotalol, i also noticed i cannot eat anything sweet if makes me feel even more sick, the other med i am on is warfarin. i get afib because i have a hole in my heart which is enlarged on 1 side.
Avatar f tn Dear Chypre: Your condition sounds serious. Please seek medical attention immediately. You are bleeding, taking warfarin (Coumadin), having diarrhea and cannot urinate for 15 hours. Please seek medical attention right away! Sincerely, Carrie Fu, Pharm.D.
Avatar f tn By this time i was having stabbing pain in my right side. ER took head scan and chest xray and did bloodwork and said everything looked ok and no sign of clot issues in bloodwork...checked my liver and pancreast as well as cardio stuff..all was ok. Prescibing doc put me back on it for two more days to only end up in the same situation. Given that yesterday he said to not take the warfarin he was changing me from the genertic warfarin and putting me on the brand name of the med coumadin.
Avatar n tn Hi, How are you? Side effects of Warfarin or coumadin include severe headache, dizziness, fainting, unusual or persistent tiredness, bloody/black/tarry stools, chest pain, shortness of breath, difficulty swallowing and swelling or sudden weight gain. If you observe these symptoms, inform your doctor for proper management.Coumadin can cause serious bleeding and this is the reason your INR should be monitored. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn 5 years my cardiologist suggests me to change to warfarin + asprin theraphy. I am scared of warfarin due to its side effects and risks. What are my risks if I continue with my currrent asprin+clopidogrel dual anticoagulant theraphy? Shall appreciate advice or sharing your experience with these drugs or necessity of changing over from one drug to another?.
1360592 tn?1281755526 I suffer from permanent AFib and take Metoprolol SR for lower my (ventricle) heart rate. I took as much as 100 mg twice a day to get the HR down, and found the side-effects troubling but not debilitating. I tended to adapt to the medication, but was concerned it was causing me sleep (dreaming) problems.
Avatar m tn However, danger of a stroke trumps the side effects of the drug. I went into Afib after bypass surgery and was administered Amiodarone, and it stopped the Afib within twenty-four hours. My side effects were itchy eyes from the drug, and believe me, itchy eyes was an easy trade-off from a stroke. Keep us informed.
Avatar m tn t understand why being on Warfarin would prevent you from going back to work, it has few side effects for most people is held in the INR range of 2-3. If you happen to suffer a cut, you will bleed more because of Warfarin, but most minor cuts are not a problem. The same, to a lesser degree, can be said about aspirin.
Avatar n tn I am sorry to hear that you have side effects of Amiodarone. When I had AF, I was offered amiodarone, but I did not want to take it. I read that it can have many serious side effects. Especielly I had contraindications for it. I read that the medicine stays in the organ system for weeks after stopping its use. Your wheezing and shortage of breath are alarming. I cannot advice you what to do. Do you have any betablockers at home? Could you change Amiodarone to a betablocker? Be careful.
