Avatar f tn There are other people besides yourself who require both Plavix and warfarin. Sometimes aspirin is used in place of the Plavix, and the patient will be on aspirin and warfarin. That type of combo regimen is used when the doctor doesn't think that one drug alone is enough to do the job, and one drug obviously wasn't enough in your case. It seems that your Plavix and warfarin regimen is working, so I'll join you in giving thanks for that.
Avatar n tn In a conflicting report, the effects of acute and chronic dosing of APAP on warfarin pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics was studied in 20 healthy males in a 2-phase, randomized, crossover study. The mean serum concentrations of S- and R-warfarin did not differ significantly between treatments. There was no change in anticoagulation response between treatment and control (4). INR should be monitored more closely when APAP use exceeds 2 g/day or chronic use > 7 days occurs. References: 1.
Avatar f tn I passed on the offer to put me on Pradaxa a couple of years back, driven in part by the high cost and the fact I got along well with warfarin, albeit I have the blood test every month with warfarin. I think that is a key benefit of Pradaxa, not need for periodic blood tests.
Avatar m tn I have been on warfarin for nine years, and I personally have not heard of this with warfarin. There are other heart and blood pressure-type drugs that occasionally do have this side effect, though. If it has happened to you, you might consider whether another one of your medications could possibly to be the cause. If you will do an internet search for a list of photosensitive medications, you will find a number of drugs that can cause photosensitivity as a side effect.
Avatar n tn I have been on Coumadin for 18 years due to Lupus Anticoagulant (Antiphospholipid Syndrome) and several DVTs. My relative has brief history of heart problems span one and a half years (though the underlying heart condition itself appears to be congenital). Rhythm problems resulted in CHF, hospitalization, and later diagnosis and heart surgery. Subsequent dysrhythmia and CHF has been prevented adequately with medication.

Regular monitoring of INR should be performed on all treated patients. Those at high risk of bleeding may benefit from more frequent INR monitoring, careful dose adjustment to desired INR, and a shorter duration of therapy.

Avatar n tn Xarelto is one of the newer blood thinners, but my ep told me there is no antidote to the newer drugs and should you need emergency surgery they could be a problem. With Warfarin you can be given Vitamin K or plasma to reverse the effects. I wonder if trying the brand Coumadin might help you? I know the genericss are supposed to be the same, but sometimes people do better on the original drug. Just a thought. I say definitely discuss it with your doctor.

Avatar m tn A blood thinner is what more technically is called an anticoagulant (as warfarin, for instance). Most drugs for epilepsy have blood thinner properties and so they can add their blood thinning property to that of warfarin. This may cause an haemorrhage in some part of your body. A new drug which doesn't have that property, that effect, is Zebinix 800 mg or 1200 mg (find it on Google).

Avatar f tn s been a struggle for him to maintain an INR of 2.5; his current dosing is 17.5 mg daily, and alternating 20mg every other day. Even with that dosing it's hard to keep his INR up. We are very careful with his diet and he basically eats no green leafy vegi. We have noticed since the addtition of the 20 mg every other day that his memory is fading quickly.
Avatar m tn t know how warfarin is affecting your life style. I have been on warfarin for years and had no concerns about running and bike riding, and using power wood working tools. All of these activities puts one at an increased risk of a cut and bleeding, but I simply take the risk. On the other hand, I don't sky dive, or pick fights ....
Avatar f tn She had a pulmonary embolism last week (no known cause) and is currently receiving warfarin and heparin injections. I am concerned that these drugs may not be suitable for an AVM person. She hasn't yet seen a consultant to determine treatment options for the AVM. I also wonder whether the PE could be connected to the AVM. Does anyone have a similar experience or some advice about whether there are alternatives or I am worrying about nothing?
