Avatar f tn I have A/F and up to recently took aspirin to help stop clots and strokes, however due to a stomach bleed my doctor took me of aspirin. I have been on a site that recommends Radix Ginseng and other types of Ginseng, so my question is "Would these really help?" I dont want to take anymore pills than I am doing but could it be a tea or something like that? Have any of you any ideas about this, or are any of you taking this for the heart? Thank you.
612551 tn?1450022175 I have been taking 2 grams of Korean Ginseng for a few months now and have found no problem with interactions with use of Warfarin. I not here for experience here. I take mostly in the hope to achieve some energy improvements, none noted, but fyi, I lost about 10 pounds down from about 238, I am 6' 5". I believe this may be due to the Ginseng affect on my digestion of carbohydrates (which I love to eat) - causing less production of blood sugar and fat.
Avatar m tn Standardized extract of Asian ginseng. Asian ginseng, or Panax ginseng, is a good general stimulant and sexual energizer. Asian ginseng is considered safe but can raise blood pressure and cause irritability and insomnia in some people. Follow the dosage on the package, and give it a six to eight-week trial to see what it can do.
Avatar m tn t know how warfarin is affecting your life style. I have been on warfarin for years and had no concerns about running and bike riding, and using power wood working tools. All of these activities puts one at an increased risk of a cut and bleeding, but I simply take the risk. On the other hand, I don't sky dive, or pick fights ....
Avatar m tn What about fish oil? Wouldn't that be one to avoid as well? And I was under the impression turmeric and garlic were also mild blood thinners. True? The only ones you mentioned I take are garlic and ginseng, but I take eleuthero mainly, which isn't really ginseng, and American ginseng when I used to go to the gym, which I've been avoiding for several weeks now due to injuries. Are these included, of just Chinese ginseng? And should I avoid the bilberry?
535822 tn?1443976780 yes I am better today I am certain it was the tea, I normally drink cups of green tea and I am okay so I think it was the ginseng I googled it and yes it can cause stomach irritation and upset also headaches .so no ginseng for me ..
Avatar n tn ginger and glucosamine sulfate will affect coumadin (warfarin) I'm on warfarin and can't take ginger or glucosamine and a host of other supplements.
Avatar f tn DOES ANYONE KNOW IF WARFARIN CAN LOWER YOUR BLOOD COUNT AND AND ALSO LOWER CALCIUM AND VITAMIN D LEVELS?
Avatar f tn Seven months ago I had a pulmonary embolism and I am told this may have been the second one.I am taking 7 mg of warfarin a day and my INR is 2.5.I had a liver transplant 10 months ago,and was told my vascular system was not great.Given my overall situation I am concerned about heart attacks and strokes.Do you think I should be taking 75mg of aspirin a day as well as the warfarin? Thanks.
Avatar m tn They don't contraindicate one another, but since both can somewhat lower blood sugar, you might feel a bit tired if you already have low blood sugar. However, Chinese ginseng (there really isn't any Korean ginseng, it's just sold by Koreans and grown there theoretically but it's native to China) doesn't have a big effect on blood sugar. American ginseng is more for that purpose.
Avatar n tn She has been on warfarin and monitors it regularly. She also has past history endometriosis and has always had heavy periods and problems with her periods. She also has uterine fibroids that have been giving her problems, even more so since the warfarin. Between the uterine fibroids and the warfarin, her menses are extremely heavy. She is on iron because she tends to be anemic around her period. Her periods are so heavy that she can go through 4-6 large pads an hour, sometimes more.
612551 tn?1450022175 CoQ-10 is frequently recommended for reducing side effects in patients taking statins ( like Lipitor) and I haven’t heard of anyone on warfarin having issues. I would recommend consulting your doctor first (obviously) and maybe refraining from COQ-10 unless you have some nasty symptoms that you absolutely can’t tolerate which COQ-10 has been shown to alleviate.
Avatar m tn I believe it could be a FATAL mistake if you stopped taking the warfarin. Mechanical valves will clot without warfarin and this could cause a heart attack, stroke or heart failure and could cause you to have to have another open heart surgery. PLEASE ,PLEASE talk to your doctor about any changes in the warfarin.
Avatar n tn A drastic change in diet can alter INR also, but in my own personal experience, it has usually been other meds that caused me to need to change my warfarin dosage and not my diet. An INR that is consistently out of range is dangerous. Don't worry about maintaining the same dose of warfarin. Worry about maintaining an INR that is consistently within range. Whatever dose of warfarin you have to take to stay in range is okay.
Avatar f tn Sometimes aspirin is used in place of the Plavix, and the patient will be on aspirin and warfarin. That type of combo regimen is used when the doctor doesn't think that one drug alone is enough to do the job, and one drug obviously wasn't enough in your case. It seems that your Plavix and warfarin regimen is working, so I'll join you in giving thanks for that.
612551 tn?1450022175 I began taking Korean Ginseng 2 grams a day a few months back. I am a senior and decided to try it for the possible benefits, including energy and erectile dysfunction problems. After about a month I noticed my weight went down about 10 pounds, 5%. I am 6' 5" so I can carry 225 rather well. I did not notice any change in my energy and or erectile dysfunction.
Avatar f tn It's also known as Indian Ginseng. My chiropractor got me going on it and it's almost been a month. I started out taking 1 cap. in the am and one in the pm. After about three days, I started to feel a little bit calmer. After 2 weeks, I was way calmer and my appetite increased. I think my appetite increased because my anxiety is way down. I get so nervous and nauseous that I lose all appetite. I haven't had to take one valium since I've been on this.
Avatar n tn I have been on Coumadin for 18 years due to Lupus Anticoagulant (Antiphospholipid Syndrome) and several DVTs. In 2005 had MI with occlusion of the LAD artery and had drug stent inserted and I am still on plavix. My doc has debated when to take me off the Plavix safely....what are the recent studies about this dilemma? thanks so much!
Avatar m tn What do you mean by Indian ginseng? American Indian? Because there isn't any ginseng in India. And how old are you? If you're young, you really don't want to be taking all those body building supplements -- an adult can decide for himself how healthy to be, but if you're young skip that stuff. Listen to Gym -- no supplement will make you taller.
798555 tn?1292787551 I had taken each of them on separate occasions, and it was NOT pleasant. Astragalus and ginseng both give me anxiety. Siberian ginseng was good , and did not make me anxious. Its hard for some people systems , and mine is very sensitive to drugs and herbs, to use some herbs. but I prefer them to drugs. I see a chinese medical dr who is treating me with a host of herbs and auricular therapy. he is learning my body and the herbs I can't tolerate.
Avatar f tn Ginseng is a tricky herb, particularly for women. There are different kinds of ginseng, and herbs that are also adaptogens that people sometimes call ginseng but aren't. The first thing I would do is get your blood work done by a physician to see if perhaps there's something going on with your thyroid or a form of anemia, which could mean a deficiency of B12 (more common with vegetarians) or iron. Also, is your sleep good sleep, are you depressed, are there hormonal things going on.
Avatar f tn While this is significantly below the promised amount, it remains an unusually high amount of ginsenosides. Clinical trials with ginseng have typically used herb powders and extracts with far lower concentrations of ginsenosides, providing about 6 to 40 mg of ginsenosides daily. It is not known what effect the high amount of ginsenosides from the NSI product may have.
561185 tn?1216075940 I am on alot of meds but mostly Warfarin, nexium, Metformin, adn pain pills and muscle relaxers. No my doctor is not a cardio doc. General pract. but followed by my Neuro who is my MS specialist.
Avatar f tn The article says that it can help in reducing the Hepa B virus and such persons and individuals had healed from it since using this product. i just want to know if it is really working and safe to use...
