Common Questions and Answers about Warfarin and exercise

Avatar m tn Just in recent days, my pulse rate has dropped to 40-45 and I have experienced dizzy spells when standing from a sitting position. A visit to my doctor yesterday indicated atrial fibrillation after an EKG. I started a 5 mg. dose of warfarin sodium yesterday. I am to see a cardiologist later in the week. In the meantime, I am wondering what sort of activities I should avoid. I normally use the hot tub in the morning to relax my stiff back. Is that a problem?
Avatar m tn s time to take the Warfarin meds, I notice an irregular heart beat, say, every sixth beat is slightly delayed. Warfarin brochures indicate irregular heart beat and upper chest discomfort as possible side effects. Last week at three month checkup, discussed upper chest pain, CT scan conducted that day. Waiting to be scheduled for stress test. Does my situation sound like blocked arteries OR side effects to be expected from Warfarin treatment?
Avatar n tn I exercise regularly, and eat very healthy. I feel that I have packed on several pounds this summer, and haven't changed my diet or exercise routine. Could this be linked to Coumadin? Will I return to my comfortable weight when I stop taking Coumadin later this month? Thanks!
Avatar m tn t know how warfarin is affecting your life style. I have been on warfarin for years and had no concerns about running and bike riding, and using power wood working tools. All of these activities puts one at an increased risk of a cut and bleeding, but I simply take the risk. On the other hand, I don't sky dive, or pick fights ....
3287038 tn?1398422427 with aspirin) and/or blood factors that influence clotting (i.e. warfarin). Your mother is taking both aspiring and warfarin which means that she may have an associated history of coronary disease (and aspirin is being used to prevent further blockages to the coronaries or blood vessels supplying the heart muscle) or that she is considered to be at a very high risk of stroke (perhaps due to her age, EF of 25% and Afib) and warfarin by itself isn’t enough.
Avatar m tn I take 5 mg of Warfarin each day and a low dose aspirin once a day. I take the aspirin in the morning and the warfarin at bed time.
Avatar m tn I am concerned about possible drug interactions between the antibiotic azithromycin and the two heart medications warfarin and amiodarone. My relative has brief history of heart problems span one and a half years (though the underlying heart condition itself appears to be congenital). Rhythm problems resulted in CHF, hospitalization, and later diagnosis and heart surgery. Subsequent dysrhythmia and CHF has been prevented adequately with medication.
Avatar m tn I am 69 years old and had a mitral valve repair last September, immediately following which I was in atrial fibrillation and given Amiodarone and Warfarin. This has now settled and I now have first degree heart block and am doing a cardiac rehab programme. My resting heart rate is 80 and my target exercise range is 101 - 113 but it only goes up to 98 during exercise (15 on Borg scale). Can you suggest what is causing this and what the implications / remedies may be.
Avatar n tn ginger and glucosamine sulfate will affect coumadin (warfarin) I'm on warfarin and can't take ginger or glucosamine and a host of other supplements.
1042487 tn?1275279899 The best way to balance your hormone is a good lifestyle with healthy diet and exercise. Exercise lowers stress hormones, boosts your energy, builds bone mass, and increases immunity. Choose an activity that you like ( walking, dancing, yoga, sports ) and do it several times a week. Healthy diet and good water intake is also important and as for what is a healthy diet i think i was clear above but i will be more clear. Eat whole, organic, unprocessed foods.
Avatar f tn DOES ANYONE KNOW IF WARFARIN CAN LOWER YOUR BLOOD COUNT AND AND ALSO LOWER CALCIUM AND VITAMIN D LEVELS?
Avatar m tn for 40-50 yrs i have had p. a.d. and have managed to keep it under control w/ exercise and one surgery. so what is least amount of warfarin i should take. i'm not just another of their text book persons i'm my own person.
Avatar m tn My wife had an op. for a mitral valve repair and AF (maze) some ten weeks ago. After the op. she was put on amiodarone, digoxin and furosemide. While the MVR appeared successful the maze did not kick in, experiencing irregular heartbeats cica 90 p.m. She then had cardioversion a few days ago; her heart rhythm appears to have regularised but her pulse rate has dropped to 42-46 p.m. and she has lost a lot ef energy.
Avatar f tn Seven months ago I had a pulmonary embolism and I am told this may have been the second one.I am taking 7 mg of warfarin a day and my INR is 2.5.I had a liver transplant 10 months ago,and was told my vascular system was not great.Given my overall situation I am concerned about heart attacks and strokes.Do you think I should be taking 75mg of aspirin a day as well as the warfarin? Thanks.
Avatar n tn She has been on warfarin and monitors it regularly. She also has past history endometriosis and has always had heavy periods and problems with her periods. She also has uterine fibroids that have been giving her problems, even more so since the warfarin. Between the uterine fibroids and the warfarin, her menses are extremely heavy. She is on iron because she tends to be anemic around her period. Her periods are so heavy that she can go through 4-6 large pads an hour, sometimes more.
612551 tn?1450022175 CoQ-10 is frequently recommended for reducing side effects in patients taking statins ( like Lipitor) and I haven’t heard of anyone on warfarin having issues. I would recommend consulting your doctor first (obviously) and maybe refraining from COQ-10 unless you have some nasty symptoms that you absolutely can’t tolerate which COQ-10 has been shown to alleviate.
882102 tn?1240622411 I also sweat excessively when I exercise and this has happened all my life. I am not a heavy drinker of alcohol (but did drink a half snifter of cognac every night to stop keeping my wife awake with my coughing when I had pertussis). Normally my wife and I share a bottle of wine with dinner and that is all the alcohol we normally drink. I had Bornholms disease (coxsackie virus) about 25 years ago. Finally I am stone deaf in my left ear - due apparently to mumps when I was about 18 months old.
Avatar m tn I believe it could be a FATAL mistake if you stopped taking the warfarin. Mechanical valves will clot without warfarin and this could cause a heart attack, stroke or heart failure and could cause you to have to have another open heart surgery. PLEASE ,PLEASE talk to your doctor about any changes in the warfarin.
Avatar f tn Got his pacemaker/defib and was feeling better but he still has on and off edema issues, is on warfarin, and now that my mom has passed, the depression has affected his heart. Doc says he's fine but that's after I told him don't wait until 6 months to see a doc. I wish you luck.
Avatar n tn A drastic change in diet can alter INR also, but in my own personal experience, it has usually been other meds that caused me to need to change my warfarin dosage and not my diet. An INR that is consistently out of range is dangerous. Don't worry about maintaining the same dose of warfarin. Worry about maintaining an INR that is consistently within range. Whatever dose of warfarin you have to take to stay in range is okay.
Avatar f tn Sometimes aspirin is used in place of the Plavix, and the patient will be on aspirin and warfarin. That type of combo regimen is used when the doctor doesn't think that one drug alone is enough to do the job, and one drug obviously wasn't enough in your case. It seems that your Plavix and warfarin regimen is working, so I'll join you in giving thanks for that.
Avatar n tn I was in bed so much after Doxil also and should have been wearing the compression socks to prevent blood clots. I have not been on hormone therapy. I am on the shots and Coumadin (Warfarin).
Avatar n tn I have been on Coumadin for 18 years due to Lupus Anticoagulant (Antiphospholipid Syndrome) and several DVTs. In 2005 had MI with occlusion of the LAD artery and had drug stent inserted and I am still on plavix. My doc has debated when to take me off the Plavix safely....what are the recent studies about this dilemma? thanks so much!
Avatar n tn I immediately started drinking 2 liters water (distilled) in addition to my others liquids which were primarily limited to coffee, water with meds and exercise, and a few beers. Within a week, my episodes of VT declined to a rate of less than 2 per month--a decrease of 97%. I also started taking a highly absorbable form of Co Q10 - 200 mg per day at the advice of my ND.
Avatar f tn my mother is 80 years old. 5 years ago she receive a pacemaker and she was prescribed warfarin (blood thinner) to prevent strokes. her doctor had much difficulty controlling the dosage and very often she had bruises and lost several of her nails. after 6 months she began having allucinations..a brain scan indicated thinning of the brain lining.
