Common Questions and Answers about Warfarin and epidurals

Avatar m tn t know how warfarin is affecting your life style. I have been on warfarin for years and had no concerns about running and bike riding, and using power wood working tools. All of these activities puts one at an increased risk of a cut and bleeding, but I simply take the risk. On the other hand, I don't sky dive, or pick fights ....
Avatar n tn ginger and glucosamine sulfate will affect coumadin (warfarin) I'm on warfarin and can't take ginger or glucosamine and a host of other supplements.
Avatar f tn DOES ANYONE KNOW IF WARFARIN CAN LOWER YOUR BLOOD COUNT AND AND ALSO LOWER CALCIUM AND VITAMIN D LEVELS?
Avatar f tn Seven months ago I had a pulmonary embolism and I am told this may have been the second one.I am taking 7 mg of warfarin a day and my INR is 2.5.I had a liver transplant 10 months ago,and was told my vascular system was not great.Given my overall situation I am concerned about heart attacks and strokes.Do you think I should be taking 75mg of aspirin a day as well as the warfarin? Thanks.
Avatar n tn She has been on warfarin and monitors it regularly. She also has past history endometriosis and has always had heavy periods and problems with her periods. She also has uterine fibroids that have been giving her problems, even more so since the warfarin. Between the uterine fibroids and the warfarin, her menses are extremely heavy. She is on iron because she tends to be anemic around her period. Her periods are so heavy that she can go through 4-6 large pads an hour, sometimes more.
612551 tn?1450022175 CoQ-10 is frequently recommended for reducing side effects in patients taking statins ( like Lipitor) and I haven’t heard of anyone on warfarin having issues. I would recommend consulting your doctor first (obviously) and maybe refraining from COQ-10 unless you have some nasty symptoms that you absolutely can’t tolerate which COQ-10 has been shown to alleviate.
Avatar m tn I believe it could be a FATAL mistake if you stopped taking the warfarin. Mechanical valves will clot without warfarin and this could cause a heart attack, stroke or heart failure and could cause you to have to have another open heart surgery. PLEASE ,PLEASE talk to your doctor about any changes in the warfarin.
Avatar n tn A drastic change in diet can alter INR also, but in my own personal experience, it has usually been other meds that caused me to need to change my warfarin dosage and not my diet. An INR that is consistently out of range is dangerous. Don't worry about maintaining the same dose of warfarin. Worry about maintaining an INR that is consistently within range. Whatever dose of warfarin you have to take to stay in range is okay.
Avatar f tn Sometimes aspirin is used in place of the Plavix, and the patient will be on aspirin and warfarin. That type of combo regimen is used when the doctor doesn't think that one drug alone is enough to do the job, and one drug obviously wasn't enough in your case. It seems that your Plavix and warfarin regimen is working, so I'll join you in giving thanks for that.
Avatar n tn I have been on Coumadin for 18 years due to Lupus Anticoagulant (Antiphospholipid Syndrome) and several DVTs. In 2005 had MI with occlusion of the LAD artery and had drug stent inserted and I am still on plavix. My doc has debated when to take me off the Plavix safely....what are the recent studies about this dilemma? thanks so much!
9240076 tn?1408491932 Everybody keeps telling me that I will gain weight and it'll be like boom lol So after a certain point can you not push the button anymore? I had an appointment today and talked to my doctor about it and she actually said that epidurals actually don't mess up your back it's in fact the actual birthing process that causes back pain because the baby's pushing on your muscles and bones and stuff. That's reassuring, like for real.
Avatar f tn Ok so I said over and over that I'd NEVER get one. I was scared of the catheter and I thought it wasn't gonna be worth it. Omg seriously it was the best invention ever. I was at a 2 and screaming. Those bad boys seriously helped me a lot. And the catheter wasn't bad and was actually kinda nice. Cause I was stuck in bed cause of the induction and wasn't allowed up anyways. But seriously, get the epidural!
Avatar f tn They numb you on your back first before they do anything..and he said it takes maybe 15 min total start to finish and should start to work right away. Hardest part is staying still..and let them know when you're having a contraction so they can stop til it's over. Beyond that I have no experience. Hopefully someone with firsthand knowledge can help more...should with 80% of all births nowdays (in the US) include an epidural.
Avatar f tn I'm a ftm and I want to get an epidural but I'm nervous, anybody else had one and does it hurt, what are some side effects??? Btw I will be 34 weeks on Wednesday, I'm due April 30th.
Avatar f tn okay 2 of my cousins had epidurals and 1 has been a year since she had her daughter but they both say they still get like pain or discomfort where it was usually more so in the cold. Did any other mommies experience this ?
Avatar n tn I got my epidural when i was almost 6cm and it worked in 5 min my legs went numb and 20 30 min later my water broke and after pushing for about an hour and a half she came out, she tore me though because i had pushed a little to fast so i had to get stiched but omg it was a good thing i got that epidural, i didnt feel a thing and i had to push out the placenta, but worth the pain when i saw my daughter, all i felt was pressure i didnt even feel when i tore
Avatar f tn Ok so me and my bbyfava just got into a argument mentioned because I want to have a natural water birth & he said I was stupid for doing it and I don't think I am but anyway I read that epidurals put stress on the baby either way a water birth is what I'm going to do its my body and my baby!
Avatar f tn s epidurals wearing off before its time too push and want to know if they will give me another if I need it ??
Avatar f tn For me it slowed my labour right down and my son become stressed and I ended up having a forceps delivery. I didn't have the epidural with my second and it was a million times better. Saying this some ladies have successful experiences having the epidural so everyone is completely different. I think it's personal choice. Go in with an open mind and see how you feel once in labour.
Avatar f tn When I had my first baby ididnt feel any contractions and with this baby Idid feel them because I came in 4 cm dilated they broke my water and wanted to "speed" my labor up I got the epidural but I still felt them ): I was so upset
Avatar f tn I was told by my midwife that your labor will last longer if you take an epidural vs. going natural.
Avatar n tn Goodluck!!! And even though she's not here yet, congratulations, you did it!!!
Avatar f tn ve never heard of death associated with epidurals, although I guess anything could be possible. Maybe Google it or discuss it with your doctor.
Avatar f tn With my contractions they were so bad I thought I was gonna die. I begged for the epidural it didn't bother me and it completely stopped my pain. Best thing ever. I hope I get another one.
