From the very onset of use of statin drugs for their powerful cholesterol lowering effect, muscle aches and pains reflecting possible underlying muscle inflammation....Lipitor and Vytorin most probable. Some doctors don’t believe that statins can cause side effects such as muscle or joint pain or memory problems. Others have seen so many cases they have developed different strategies for lowering cholesterol.

I used to have a high cholesterol and i have been taking Vytorin for the last 22 days and now my cholesterol is back to normal. However my SGOT increases to 56 and SGPT 100. Is Vytorin causes SGOT and SGPT to increase? Also, i have taken Anti hepatitis 2x. Does this have possibility to increase the SGOT and SGPT?

I did talk to doctor last week and he told me to stop Vytorin right away and changed my cholesterol medicine to something else. What you suggest is quite scary as I had a friend who passed away due to Lou Gerig's disesase few years ago. Could taking Vytorin alone cause me to actually develop the disease or just to show the symptoms?

Hey guys. I post in different communities here. I know that it's known that lipitor has the side-effect of muscle tiredness and aches. Has anyone else have to deal with this? Man it's off the hook. I almost am paralyzed fro, lipitor. This horrible and I would like to talk to someone who's been through it. This is a very under-rated affliction IMO. I've been tested and it doesn't look like I have the Rabadolosis<sp? That spelling isn't even close.

He took me off the Vytorin and put me on Zocor with same results. After stopping all meds and getting a colonoscopy and blood tests nothing was found. Because of aches and pains, my primary care physician ordered a panel of blood tests and all was normal except for the CPK which was 117. He gave me an antibiotic and after a week, checked the CPK again and found it to be 139. He wants me to see a rheumatologist but an available appointment will be months away. I am 75 and have been on Vytorin for at least 5 years as well as Actonel. My bone scan last year was good for someone my age. What should I do while waiting to see an arthritis doctor?

I am cures Ty on Vytorin and will be starting therapy soon, I have read that someone on a cholesterol lowering drug should not be on this drug. Can you tell me why?

I have IBS with diarrhea. My family doctor gave me Vytorin and it caused ONE HORRIBLE bout with the diarrea. So, my question is: Should people with IBS not take Vytorin? If the answer is: No,they shouldn't,then why do you think this side effect is not listed on the pamphlet that comes with the drug.....or any where else?!

Vytorin is a statin that lowers LDL and raises HDL. I believe Vytorin is a combination of Zetia and Zocor. I am not sure if the Vytorin will go with the Niaspam so you will need to ask your doctor that.

I have gone off and on all statin drugs and recently have been trying generic liptor. I have muscle aches again and headaches this time. Is there anything esle besides statins I can try? I have lost twenty-five pounds and my cholesterol has gone from338 to 228. I think that the lipitor is making me very uncomfortable and that I really can not tolerate it.

Since the pain (enough to climb the walls) started at night and I took the Vytorin at night, I concluded, it must be the Statins and I quit taking them and, just as I thought, no more pain. Now I am taking Crestor 5mg's because the cardiologist said, I should be taking them again.

Hi again, Regarding vytorin, it is a combo of zetia and zocor. There was a study that said that although the Vytorin will lower the cholesterol, it didn't have good effects to prevent heart attacks. Howeverk, Crestor was shown to reduce plaque and had better results in clinical studies. Also, with the Niaspan, it is known to raise HDL level but HDL is not necessarily protective as they thought. But that study may be skewed because it was done on all cardiac patients.

I'm afraid to take drugs. I quit Cymbalta because of the waring on the lable. Zoloft is supposed to be o.k.? I have muscle aches and it's probably pyscosymatic. Should I just take milk thistle? Or liv-54? iI take codiene because the pain is unbearable. Today, though, I took four 500mg vicodin, and got no relief. I don't have that much of a resistance, and am careful not to get addicted. With the leg problem that you feel like stretching them, it sounds like it could be "restless leg syndrome". This is usually treated with an antidepressant called amitriptyline. With your arms aching too, you may have some form of arthritis. Unfortunately as we get older, us unfortunate ones, start to feel aches and pains. Ask your doctor about the restless leg syndrome. Pain relief and anti-inflammatories may help.

only takes my TSH levels, she said that is all she goes by so my TSH is normal at 1.44 and has went higher and lower but basically stays in that range. I have no idea why she is so reluctant on having me try T3. I will try to get in before Christmas again and have another talk with her. She doesn't think my symptoms have anything to do with my meds or thyroid removal. But I think it has everthing to do with it! Its very frustrating!!

My primary physician said I probably overdid the stretches and triggered a muscle rebound (contracting) problem. My father needs to lower his cholesterol, but Statins cause him significant muscle problems (Myositis) and elevated Creatine Kinase CPK and Aldalase. His symptoms resolve and tests return to normal when the Statins are discontinued. What Cholesterol drugs can he try that do not have Myositis as a side effect?

Reading the many comments I came across one that stated lovastatin is an old medicine and is not used often. After recent cath my doctor changed my medication from vytorin ,have taken vytorin for 5 years, to lovastatin. I did ask for a cheaper medicine and lovastatin was what he came with. I have no problems or side effects . My question is lovastatin less effective then other of the same and if not why is it not used often. My engineering background comes out if I d not have proper data.

I have had some intense muscle and joint pain in the past, which is why my doctor has been changing my statin type and dosage. We're trying to find the right combo.
