Common Questions and Answers about Vioxx fda

vioxx

Avatar f tn What they discovered was that all NSAIDS increased the risk for heart attack and stroke with Vioxx being the worst. The FDA then mandated that the additions of heart attack and stroke be added to all NSAIDS patient information and warnings including Vioxx. The FDA published a Talk Paper and implemented labeling changes for the Vioxx based on the results of the Vigor study.
Avatar f tn I wish "fast track" really meant that but unfortunately with the FDA this is not the case. It still takes 5+ years for new drugs to make it to market. I think this "slow track" with FDA is because of the drugs like vioxx that they approved to soon which ended hurting people. Just wish they would stop tap dancing and approve the drugs like Telaprevir & Boceprevir that have proven to work and be safe. These new drugs have been thoroughly tested and can help people NOW !!!
Avatar n tn [2] A series of small-scale studies completed in Germany found that H. procumbens was indistinguishable from Vioxx in the treatment of chronic low back pain,[3] and was well-tolerated after more than four years of treatment of H. procumbens alone.[4] H. procumbens also seems efficacious in the treatment of arthritis-caused hip and knee pain.
Avatar m tn A new generation of NSAIDs, known as the cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitors, has recently been approved by the FDA. This group of NSAIDs has the advantage of having fewer gastrointestinal side effects – less abdominal discomfort and less risk of gastrointestinal bleeding, than conventional NSAIDs. There are three different COX-2 inhibitors currently available to the public– Vioxx, Celebrex and Bextra.
585414 tn?1288941302 Well I knew Vioxx and Celebrex were helpful to some consumers I worked with who had arthritis. Many. And when they had to go off them, the other options weren't as good. And the statins people take as anti-cholesterol medications have some potential hazards but some people even with a proper diet need them to keep their cholesterol down to prevent coronary arrests. Its difficult when there is a severe disability that needs to be treated.
Avatar n tn But this time I am going to ask the GP to try for Gout immediately (VIOXX and/or Allopurinol for Uric Acid/Gout). I notice it seems to reoccur every 5 years. Advice appreciated?

Avatar n tn Symptons are always have been cold, tired, joint and muscle pain worse in fingers, I took Vioxx before it was removed , high blood pressure , tinnitus, completely deaf over 2,500 cycles in both ears. Hearing aids made no difference. Dentist last month couldn't freeze my gums with 2 needles of Carbocaine. 7mm nodule on thyroid. Blood tests TSH 2.15 ( range .465 to 4.68 ) FT4 11.17 ( range 10 to 28.2 ) Total T3 2.02 ( range .92 to 2.
Avatar n tn I had a DVT that went through my heart and into my lungs(PE). A valve was damaged, also one chanber of my heart. My problem is that I wasn't diagnosed as a "heart attack", but rather a "pulmonary embolism", and the lawyers representing me in my vioxx lawsuit say it has to be a heart attack, not a PE. Isn't a heart attack part of a PE? Rather, did I suffer a heart attack as well as a pulmonary embolism?
Avatar f tn Fda, getting movin! I have already written to my senators congressional rep , people will decompensate and probably die while we are waiting for sofo/ledip/sime.

29837 tn?1414534648 t give me a definite time line for the compassionate release, he did say that telepravir being in Phase III, they are seeking approval by the FDA in the second half of 2010, and making it available through prescription instead of the current clinical trials. Interestingly, he added a comment that we could hopefully expedite the "compassionate" use approval by the FDA if we write them an email stating the urgency for those who need this NOW.
438514 tn?1305734140 That's pretty standard of the FDA, they do this all the time (in other words, it's not earth shattering). Law requires any claims at cures (or more precisely 'treatment') be backed up by clinical trials, FDA clinical trials to be precise. That is why nobody can say any drug, supplement, etc, is a treatment or cure without first completing a multi-million dollar FDA clinical trial that will last for 10 to 20 years.
29837 tn?1414534648 Today I got not one but two calls from the FDA, so apparently my persistence is paying off. They are going to do whatever the pharmaceutical companies suggest, especially since there are no other alternative drugs except Interferon and Ribavirin. My contact at Vertex, who I just spoke to, is going to look once more into the IND application (Compassionate Use), and see if there's been any changes in their (Vertex) policy for allowing it.
Avatar m tn Daily visits to selected websites, subscriptions to selected scientific and medical podcast as well as my monthly magazines such as Nature, Scientific American, Physics Today, Science Magazine and Science Readers. respirate just convinced me to add the FDA website into my dailies. What is good with technology these days is that you can be very selective regarding the kind of information you want to get and newspapers make me angry for some reasons that are totally personal.
Avatar m tn t stop the vics), that being aside, you should read the warning leaflet and decide for yourself if the side effects are worth it. I was given vioxx years ago, read the warnings about heart attacks and such, and threw them all in the trash! Not much later it was pulled from the market. If I lost a loved one, $$ isn't going to bring the back anyway, it's all stupid. If I do myself in, I guess I will come back and haunt the manufacturers....BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...........
Avatar f tn In that same period of time, 490,000 people have died from prescription drugs, not counting the Vioxx scandal. That means that prescription drugs in this country are at least 16,400 percent deadlier than terrorism. Again, those are the conservative numbers. A more realistic number, which would include deaths from over-the-counter drugs, makes drug consumption 32,000 percent deadlier than terrorism. But the scope of "Death by Medicine" is even wider.
Avatar f tn neurontin and lyrica for nerve pain, aspirin, ibuprofen, acetaminophen, celebrex, vioxx, midol, dozens of different types of opiates both synthetic and derived from the poppy, marijuana, kava, willow bark, turmeric, ginger, benzos, nitrous oxide gas, ether, and that's just again not even thinking hard about it.
