Hey Jean. I just joined myself but have been HCV for (by my estimate 21 years now).
I won't say it can't be incredibly hard. There's the social stigma, coming to terms with the fact you have it and then the telling of family and friends, not to mention dating and that's just the emotional side. A good place to start is educating yourself about transmission, that way you can feel confident in yourself that you can protect those you love and encounter.

A plausible mechanism involves the combined inhibition of enteric CYP3A4 and P-glycoprotein, which potentially leads to serious adverse events (e.g., nephrotoxicity).Blood levels of tacrolimus (Prograf) can also be equally affected for the same reason as with cyclosporine.

A Potential for Adverse Events
Many patients may take their medications with a glass of juice. However, since the accidental discovery of an interaction between the calcium channel blocker, felodipine, with grapefruit juice,1 it has now become evident that grapefruit juice has the potential to alter the plasma concentrations of many medications when they are taken by mouth. In some cases, this may result in undesirable clinical effects of medications.
Consequently, grapefruit juice can increase the levels of many drugs in the body, including several cholesterol-lowering statins. However, grapefruit juice does not interfere with the metabolism of beta blockers.
As far as i understand it grapefruit juice helps when TTC by thinning cervical mucus, i don't know if it will help some of you but I've heard that orange juice has a similar effect although slightly lessened, that and the Vit-c content was the reason our family prescribes it for coughs or a blocked nose. It's also somewhat more tolerable taste-wise.
However, tangelos, related to the grapefruit, and Seville oranges affect the same enzyme as grapefruit juice. Seville oranges are often used to make orange marmalade, and so be mindful when selecting this spread for your toast.<<

I avoid grapefruit because it interacts with simvastatin and oxycodone. If you are taking other medications please check with the respective provider and the pharmacist about interaction with grapefruit.
t had to take one yet i drink alot of juices and will be aware of that if i am in that position to not take the pill with O.J. or grapefruit juice....you think the doc would have said something...thanks again.....
I have not heard that about Lime Juice. I know some put some Lemon Juice in their water to help with digestion, and some will eat a grapefruit a day for weight loss, but, being these are all "citrus" and "acid" I would be very careful, especially if you are susceptible to stomach problems or have an ulcer.
Also, if on certain blood pressure meds, be careful, citrus fruit can cause a bad reaction if taken with these drugs.
This, initially the drug does not completely metabolize and has an extended half-life. This why it is dangerous to take grapefruit juice with certain medications. Follow me on this. You take a substance that reduces the production of these enzymes (say grapefruit juice) and for the first four hours the drug does not fully metabolize. After six hours the grapefruit juice wears off, the liver again starts producing these enzymes, and you take a second dose of the medication.
Although antibiotics have some toxicity, taking grapefruit juice will not harm you at all and will increase the effectiveness of the antibiotic. Grapefruit juice should not be taken with other medications, specifically those that affect the heart rate or blood pressure.
