Avatar n tn Changes to night vision (or day vision) at altitude have to do with the partial pressure of oxygen at altitude. As you go up in altitude you go down in pressure and at some point (quite low for smokers) vision becomes affected. Insufficient oxygen in the blood is insufficient oxygen in the brain and eyes. Eyesight is just about the first thing to be affected.
Avatar n tn I was diagnose with clogged arteries over a year ago. I even had a stent put in because one of my arteries was ecluded. I still had stable angina every time I did some for of cardio activity or is I ate something with sodium. I started using Nitroglycerin patches and even have the pills just in case my angina episode occurs. I had a date and I read online that you can't take viagra and any nitrates cause it can drop your blood pressure really low.
Avatar m tn Is it safe for hepatitis b patients to take Viagra so they can get hard errection? Will Viagra cause any damage to liver in hepatitis b patients?
Avatar m tn Denver is an elevation of about 5000 feet. There should not be any problems, and an altitude of 8000 feet may be of consequence for some illnesses. Most people who have a chronic illness, such as heart or lung disease, can safely spend time at a 8000 high altitude if their disease is under control. People who have coronary artery disease, mild emphysema or high blood pressure aren't at greater risk of high-altitude illness than people who don't have these diseases.

Avatar f tn I am curious if living or traveling at altitude has any effect on people who are at risk for retinal detachment or glaucoma, especially if someone arrives at high altitude quickly by plane rather than acclimating slowly. I recently read an article which said the same drug(Diamox) used to treat AMS(acute mountain sickness) is also used to treat glaucoma, so I was curious if altitude can cause glaucoma.
Avatar m tn I have recently (3 months ago) rented an apt in an area that is 7000+altitude; I have mvp and not been bothered with it up until now; I have flutters, nausea at times, lethargy at times and have begun to take a 5 mg. beta blocker for the fluttering. I do stay hydrated, I do exercise at this altitude and have no palpitations when I do so; I have twice had altitude sickness with hospitalization both times.
Avatar n tn Climbers and hikers can take two days to reach 8,000 feet, and then another day for each 1,000 to 2,000 higher feet. This may not be an option for people who travel to a destination at high altitude. Most people can adjust or "acclimatize" to the high altitude within a few days. Here are some tips: Avoid strenuous activity for the first day or two. Drink extra fluid. Be careful of drinking alcohol. Its effect is magnified at high altitude.
Avatar n tn I'm looking for info. pertaining to night vision and the changes that occur involving vision at altitude. Especially as it applies to the pilot.
Avatar f tn Hello, My husband has had 5 surgeries for retinal detachment and partial detachment, and also 1 cataract surgery. The doctor has tried laser surgery, applying a buckle, and adding oil to hold the retina in place in various operations. The doctor said that my husband could try surgery again using the gas bubble and have this surgery at a lower altitude and recuperate at the lower altitude.
Avatar m tn Yes you can take a flight to cardsbad, nm and stay at an altitude of 2000ft for a visit. That shouldn't be a problem at all! The issues with altitude are more for patients with lung disease and low oxygen levels, but leaky heart valves do not necessarily make you prone to low oxygen levels. Hope this helps. Have a good visit!
Avatar m tn How come Viagra doesn't work for me? Could it be from the prescriptions I take? Is there anything else I could try?
Avatar n tn People with a history of heart attack (myocardial infarction) and even those with coronary artery bypass grafts or angioplasty but with no angina, can trek up to high altitude provided they are fit and able to walk rigorously at low altitude. The high altitude does not seem to add any extra burden to the heart If blood pressure is controlled and there is no chest (pain), no problem. It is the elevated blood pressure and its consequences that are the issue.
Avatar m tn I have a choice to move to either Dallas or Houston. Which one should I choose?. My migraine triggers are high altitude, stress, weather change and PMS.
Avatar m tn ve been working very hard on physical conditioning and diet to get ready for the altitude again. My cholesterol runs about 100. I asked my doctor if Diamox would help with acclimitization and he said yes, but that it would deplete my electrolytes such as potassium and that he would recommend Triamterene/HCTZ 37.5/25 instead. I'm not sure I understand why. I thought Diamox was the medicine of choice for acute mountain sickness (AMS) since it increases oxygen delivery.
Avatar m tn Viagra works a treat for me. No problems whatsoever, only a flush to the face for side affects too. Plus even though Viagra is extremely expensive, it also seems the cheapest method. I am already seeing a urologist about this, but has been delaying my appointments for over a year now. I feel as though I will never get round it all (even if it's a serious condition) so all I can really do is help myself to some enhancers for the time being.
Avatar m tn I go to a local Chinese acupuncturist for my migraines, insomnia and mild impotence. His treatments definitely do help with all three of these conditions. For my impotence he started giving me some yellow/red capsules to take as needed. After taking them for a couple of days all I can say is Wow! This stuff really does work. I've heard of Chinese Viagra and I'm not sure if that is what these are. The come in a plastic sheet of four individual pills sealed with foil.
Avatar n tn If you believe you are suffering from altitude sickness, you immediately need to get some medical help. Altitude sickness is an emergency. Please get some help ok. I am originally from CO and got sick going up Pikes Peak. I know you need to eat carbohydrates I think and are supposed to go up in elevation slowly. Only other thing I can suggest is also getting to a lower altitude of course. Please get better. Well wishes.
Avatar n tn It happened last year (in august 2014). We went to Leh Ladakh (In India). It was a planned road trip. Leh stands at an altitude of around 3500 mtrs from mean sea level. We reached Leh on 12th August & we should acclimatize atleast for a day (24 hrs) at such a high altitude, which we didnt & we just halted there for an hour & started driving further for a point named as highest motor-able road in the world (khardung La paas) which stands at an elevation of some 5200~5300 mtrs.
Avatar n tn It's as safe as if you were not pregnant. If you're prone to altitude sickness you should know that they will have oxygen masks for people who get lightheaded.
1323747 tn?1364806882 I found an excellent article on the physiology of high altitude. When I read it I could understand how altitude can make a difference for those with autonomic dysfunction. How much I would think depends on the individual. I also read quite a bit about oxygen for disabilities and how some airlines pressurize the cabins anywhere from the equivalent of 5000 or 6000 to 8000 feet. That can make a significant difference for some. I have been wondering how to predict how I will do on a flight.
Avatar f tn hi i am a 23 year old female with mitral valve prolapse and under regular medication( betablocker).i am planning to trek for 12,628 ft high.i have never been to very high altitude before. i would like to ask if my medical condition may contribute in causing altitude sickness or any other cardiac complications?? please reply soon as i am starting my journey tommorw. :) thankyou This discussion is related to MVP/Altitude Sickness.
Avatar m tn You live in Cincinnati, the altitude is about 500 feet. I Live in an area with a similar altitude. My ejection fraction was recently pegged at 43%, and I really struggled last weekend walking up two flights of stairs at an altitude of 6000 feet at Mt. Hood, Oregon. I'm four years older than you, and in pretty good physical condition considering my heart trouble. Caregiver gives great advice.
995271 tn?1463924259 t know if there would be any immediate changes for 1 week at altitude. If there were any, then having more oxygen rich blood going through your heart (due to the higher hemoglobin count) might have calmed down the irritable spot in your ventricle. Remember, in ischemia people develop frequent PVC's. You obviously don't have ischemia, but perhaps getting an extra boost of oxygen rich blood in your heart had a soothing affect on irritable cardiac muscle.
Avatar f tn Have a blast, often prego women feel great at altitude bc of your extra blood volume! I always get mild altitude sickness above 7000 but not since prego!
