Avatar m tn Hello, I have read in a few websites that there is an increased risk of priapism in patients who take ED drugs like Cialis/Viagra/Levitra and who also have (among other conditions) Sickle Cell Disease and/or Beta Thalassemia. It's not clear to me whether Beta Thalassemia Minor (my condition) also increases that risk.I could not find much information about it.
Avatar m tn Hello! I'm 38 from France and I had the same problem with Viagra 9 months ago: one evening I took a pill of Viagra 50 Mgp. This was the 2nd time in my life and it was mostly for reassurance after I divorced. I went asleep at 10pm and, in the middle of the night, I woke up with a strong erection. I masturbated to make the erection stop and it went partially away. 2 hours later I waked up again with another strong erection. This lasted for maybe 8 h.
Avatar m tn Sorry to hear that you have the problem of erectile dysfunction and especially after being treated for the priapism. That must have been very painful for you. I am not a doctor, but I would suggest you make an appointment to see your doctor or a different one or even consider referral to a urologist if your doctor feels this may be helpful. The injection that you were given (papaverine) is used to relax and open the blood vessels.
Avatar n tn Oh ya, definitely talk to your doctor! Priapism is the problem. We'd like to think you were just having a lot of sexy dreams but if the erection isn't coming and going during the night, no, that's not the case. Priapism can be ischemic or non ischemic. With ischemic, you are usually soft at the tip but rigid in the shaft and with non ischemic, you are usually erect but not fully rigid. Any of this ring a bell for you? There's different reasons for each one.
Avatar m tn So, you had priapism (erect penis for more than 4 hours -- that's an emergency by the way) several months ago and now you can't get erect. Did you not get treatment for the priapism? The longer you let it go if it happens, the greater the chance of a more long term situation. So, impotence has different reasons. Sometimes meds we take can cause it. What meds do you currently take? That can contribute. And a huge reason for impotence is our own mind.
Avatar m tn Anyway, last night I was expecting to have sex so took one 100mg Viagra pill around 9.30PM. Had sex about an hour later and all was good, strong erection throughout the intercourse, no matter I was nervous about it. After I ejaculated the erection normally went away. Girl went home so I went to sleep around midnight without erection. However, I woke up around 6AM with a strong erection and a mild headache, which I know is a side effect of sildenafil.
Avatar f tn The patients taking alpha blockers may use Viagra only after stabilizing of hemodynamic indexes. And lastly, certain drugs for cardiac disease may interact with Viagra, and if you are using them you should avoid it. The drugs are: Calcium channel blockers like Amlodipine (Norvasc). Concomitant use of Amlodipine and Viagra may cause lowering of blood pressure. Alpha blockers like doxazosin (Cardura®), prazosin (Minipress®), and terazosin (Hytrin®).
Avatar n tn ve heavily used cocaine, LSD and marijuana. It began at 14 with marijuana and LSD, at 16 I laid off of the LSD and began with the MDMA and at 17-19 I was a heavy cocaine user (snorting, never smoking or mainlining). At 20 I slowed down quite a bit but still used MDMA and weed frequently. At 22 I think I overdosed on meth. It wasn't intentional but I took a bunch of pills, presumably MDMA but the effects caused a week long psychotic episode and schizophrenia.
Avatar m tn I am now 39 years old and have not had an erection since the surgery that relieved the priapism. I have not seen a doctor for this condition since I was 20. The Urologist that I went to tested pills and a penile injection that failed to work. On the doctors advice I tried an erectile pump but that only caused tissue swelling. Living with this has caused a strain on my relationship and I am seeking new advice on any recent medical treatments available that may help my situation.
Avatar n tn I also had a urine screen and urethra swab for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea. The urine came back negative, but the swab test hasn't come back yet. After getting the Cipro, I took one pill but was still concerned. I went to the STD clinic and recieved a Rocefin injection, 1g Zithromax and 2g of Metronidazole. If the STD tests are negative can the infection/discharge be caused by the ED drugs?
Avatar n tn I recently found a medical source that stated ages 5 to 10yrold boys are in an age bracket that has a greater frequency of priapism. I remember that my penis hurt during erections and my erections lasted at least 10 hours on several occasions. The pain would continue after the erection ceased but if the erection didn't return for about a day the pain would gradually diminish. At the next moment the next erection started I felt the pain build up again.
Avatar f tn At the same time I noticed I had a small urge to urinate which may have opened the flood gates and the priapism was gone along with the pain but was left with numbness in the penis and testicles for a few minutes after. It wasn't that common for me to get a priapism and even when I did it was never this painful nor has it been so hard to get rid of. The the painful priapism became more frequent and the swelling of my left testicle worsened over a week and a half.
Avatar f tn Also, do not take such a high dose of viagra and when you are on viagra be careful as it can cause priapism which can worsen the ED. Are you able to maintain a hard erection on your own? Do you wake up with morning wood and does it take a while for that erection to return to the flaccid state? Or even on your own is it as soon as you take your hand off the erection disappears within moments?
Avatar n tn m sorry to inform that it sounds like your clitoris is dying and getting infected. Look up clitorism and priapism. Priapism is similar to clitorism but the later olny happens to a clitoris and priapism is relatively the same problem and it is better researched. The worst outcome of either is blackening of the erectile organ and infection that is potentially fatal.
Avatar m tn If priapism isn’t treated, it can cause erectile dysfunction and scarring. Priapism is most common in men ages 5 to 10 and 20 to 50, according to Cleveland Clinic.
Avatar n tn A straddle injury can lead to perineal nerve damage and or priapism. Hope you the best, hope I have helped or encouraged you.
Avatar m tn Hello, I take Sildenafil 100mg for ED. It helps but I'm still unsatisfied with how much I can get and maintain an erection. My doctor had me to try alprostadil last year, but it didn't work much. About a month ago, he suggested trimix. To be honest, I can't remember what dose he gave me. It worked amazingly, however my erection lasted over 4 hours, so I had to get the draining blood procedure done.
Avatar m tn I have been to the urologist and he has tested me for diabetes and measured my sex hormone levels (testosterone and free testosterone, prolactin etc). All of these test have returned normal. I am also going to have a night time tumescence test done to rule out psychological causes. I am pretty sure it is not a psych problem as I do not get morning erections and cannot get erections when masturbating.
Avatar n tn I warn do not wait! Get another opinion priapism can cause serious damage and every second is crucial. Waiting is like watching a person drown. Action must be taken!
Avatar f tn I suspected it i went to a urologist who examined me with bis hands and said i have no damage do they know if you have damage from priapism with just a hands on exam?
Avatar f tn Again, could do minor things to try to boost it, make things as better as possible, maybe even PRP injections, but try not to make it worse. I also was on Viagra and it got worse over a couple years on Viagra. I still wonder why, but I would imagine that I took too high a dose, and then would sleep afterwards possibly sleeping with a hard erection for too long (priapism) which from my understanding causes additional damage. So be aware of priapism too.
Avatar f tn I understand the temptation to just pop in an entire pill when you really want it to happen, but if you try this medicine, start on a tiny dose (break the pill into a smaller piece if need be) because if you take too much, and it traps the blood in your penis for too long, that’s call priapism and will cause additional damage, which will eventually mean the Viagra or Cialis will likely be less and less effective, from my understanding.
Avatar m tn I suggest that you study the issue of priapism and get several more medical opinions asap. Even if priapism is not the cause of the lump you found the lump is possibly an internal scar or tumor and either of these can easily induce priapism. Now I do not want to frieghten but many infants get normal erections that can be quite firm. And since the infants penis is not fully toughened prior to puberty it can be injured easily during any of its firm erections.
Avatar m tn Regarding Priapism: They say that Priapism is an erection lasting longer than 4 hours. And permanent damage can occur after 4 hours that would result in future erectile dysfunction. My question is what type of erection qualifies for the 4 hours duration? For example sometimes I wake up with a full erection, then go the the bathroom. When I get back to my bed, I notice that my penis is about 30% to 40% erect, but not fully erect.
Avatar n tn I actually work with a urologist at a clinic and he did my lithotripsy and stent placement on Monday. I have the worst spontaneous priapism ever. When I brought it up in conversation he said its normal to have this and its the way the urethra wants to expel the stent. It's not fun at at. I've had 2 surgeries for stone removal in less than 2 weeks with no pain medication, I'm allergic to narcotics and opioid. Miserable 2 weeks.
