This result met with little concern. After diagnosis RLS 10/07 started Requip. Worked like magic from first .Actual RLS symptoms abated, bad wakings CEASED. Was at 2 mg nightly. End 1/08 small weight gain, minor edema. Short of breath. Suddenly symptoms increased.Gained more than 25 lbs in 10 weeks.Feet/ ankles/ fingers/abdomen terribly swollen. All sorts of tests including kidney,liver,congestive heart failure. No answers. Back to neuro.

Have had following symptoms,increasing frequency since 11/05. Background: Brain surgery meningioma 5/05. 09/05 diagnosed Hashimotos Hypothyroid. Synthroid .137 Diagnosed RLS 10/07 by neurologist. Besides known night rls symptoms had morning symptoms. Awakened suddenly early AM startled, stressed,wired/ tired,sense of dread,jumping out of skin,adrenaline rush.
It's possible that you have a real medical issue with RLS and if that's the case Requip works great and it's not addictive!
On the other hand if it does have something to do with w/d's then I would suggest eating bananas as they really do help.
If the bananas don't work after a few days then I would go to your doctor and tell him what's going on with your legs and he will probably give you the Requip. I'm currently taking it and with no side effects at all.

Since seeking medical advice online is a new venture for me I was pretty quick in typing my original question. After some thought, I was hoping that with a little more history you could possibly link other issues together. She also suffers from extreme cramps during her period and was told she probably has endometriosis. Ovarian cysts were present on several ultra sounds. She also has a very low level of energy and always seem tired.
Lots of missing pieces. What is the nature of the surgery, what is your medical history and what drugs are you on?
our father who is 78 is starting to hallucinate he was hospitalized about a month ago for pneumonia.he was also taking requip for his restless legs,the doc. took him off of requip because of side affects 4 days ago. we dont know if that could be the cause of his condition or not,he also had a cat scan of the brain, it was normal.he sees people that are not there, he realizes later that it is not real. he is getting depressed and scared,we dont know what to do anymore.

I've got severe RLS 24/7 and have been taking Requip for the past several years, Mirapex before that. It's gotten worse lately so the doctor had me go cold turkey 5 days ago. He gave me Klonopin to take at night, but it doesn't do anything other than make me even more tired. I managed to get 6 hours sleep on day 4, but that's it for the whole week. The doctor says that I can't go back on the dopamines (Requip) since they have started augmentation (making the RLS worse).
There are a few things I have found to be helpful for me and want to pass on in hopes of help for others. I am not in the medical field, these suggestion are only from my personal experience. They are magnesium, leg elevation, a sugarless diet, an inversion table and COLD WATER, COLD WATER, COLD WATER! Many times I hang my legs in the pool on cool nights or I fill the tub with cold water and sit in it. This calms me enough that I usually can fall asleep.
