Common Questions and Answers about Varenicline ssri

chantix

Avatar f tn You are talking about Chantix (Varenicline tartrate) that should be available worldwide. If not, ask your doctor for other suggestion for quitting smoking.
Avatar f tn Hello, Chantix (varenicline) and Zyban (bupropion) are the only two non-nicotine medications approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for smoking cessation; both are available in pill form and only by prescription. Chantix received FDA approval in 2006; Zyban was approved in 1997. These drugs can be effective tools, but users need to be aware of some potentially serious side effects. You can try that and they are very cheap in some pharmacy's.
Avatar f tn He suggested that this is autoimmune in nature and that an SSRI may help. i tried Prozac for a week once and some of my endocrine bloodwork went wacky (prolactin level was 165, normal is no higher than 30 and I was having hot flashes) Have any of you had any luck with an antidepressant in this class? My primary doc is reluctant as he says i am not depressed, although the situation can be depressing.
Avatar n tn Is ssri weight gain dose dependent?
Avatar f tn The doctor decided I should try another SSRI. Which makes sense cause I have read a lot of blogs where people have had their SSRI "poop out" on them over time. I started the Zoloft on 25 mg for the first week and went down to 10 mg of the Paxil the same week, then 50 mg Zoloft the next week and 5mg Paxil, the following week I stayed at the same 50 mg Zoloft and went to 2.5 paxil. During all of this time I had the horrible side effects from starting and withdrawing from SSRI meds.
Avatar n tn Can you take an ssri antidepressant forever or will it eventually not work because of tolerance build up? Is tolerance even an issue with an ssri? if you do build a tolerance, then can you only take a ssri until your tolerance builds to the point where you would have to take more than the allowed maximum prescription? so what are you to do if you need an ssri forever and the amount you need is above what is safely prescribed?
622511 tn?1373571503 After the sampling of the many MEDS. over the years, I settled on Tenormin and Klonopin ( mostly PRN now after the institute of an SSRI/SNRI ) again, after so many trials of different meds. Sorry, for such a long post but I wanted to clarify "my" specific conditions/symptoms, so I can maybe get some help/advice from others in this forum in the same horrific boat.
248167 tn?1220363690 Maybe do a google search and see if there are any foods that might have the same properties of the SSRI, or maybe even other drugs that are related. I would also call my pharmacist and ask him/her, they should know if nobody else does as drugs are their area of expertise.
Avatar m tn I just signed up to this forum. I have never done anything like this before. But, I really need help. The irony is I am a master's level therapist, and have been for many years. I believe I may be suffering so I can relate and better help my clients. I am in practice with a psychiatrist, but have not told her of this. I guess I am embarrassed. Anyhow, approx. 3 years ago a physician friend prescribed PAXIL for my mild OCD symptoms, my own diagnoses.
Avatar n tn Usually, an antidepressant like an SSRI is prescribed and a benzo is given short term, until the side effects of the SSRI (if any) start to subside...and the SSRI starts doing its job. Also keep in mind that it takes generally 2-4 weeks for an SSRI to really start making a difference. For some people, it can take up to 6-8 weeks. Generally, the idea is...once the SSRI starts working, the need for the benzo will decrease automatically.
1563026 tn?1295031701 So once person is off ssri, their serotonin levels are low and can't get back to the way they were before taking ssri? And what is considered long term ssri usage?
Avatar n tn SSRI completed rid me of my symptoms.
Avatar n tn What "Happy pills" are you referring to? The SSRIs and SNRIs are commonly used to treat OCD. For my OCD I take Wellbutrin which is not an SSRI but rather an SNRI. It works by blocking dopamine and norepinephrine reuptake. I really had my doubts about it since I took Prozac which is an SSRI in the past and it worked. But Wellbutrin does work and has the added bonus of not making you put on weight and not affecting the libido.
Avatar f tn Hello, I can not fine what medication you are taking but there should not be any problem taking a anti-diarreahal together with a SSRI. SSRI are safe and relatively weak therefour they are safe to take and will not cous amy major changes in the bodyphysiology. You can check interactions at http://www.drugs.com/drug_interactions.
Avatar f tn He should do this with your strong encouragement, with the help of his doctor and prescription of nicotine replacement therapy along with at least one other smoking cessation medicine such as Wellbutrin® (buproprion) or Chantix® (varenicline), counseling and group support, both at home and in his workplace. This is a critical moment for your father.
Avatar m tn The way this is usually done is to combine some wellbutrin with the ssri that is working, not to discontinue an ssri that is otherwise working really well. But side effects are very individual, so the fact all antidepressants can cause this doesn't mean they will. A different ssri might not, but then, it might not work, either.
Avatar f tn m wondering if based on their experience, someone can tell me if their SSRI has helped improved their physical symptoms over time? My SSRI helps me to be more calm and positive, however I still have physical symptoms of panic and anxiety such as tingling hands and tight chest occasionally.
