Common Questions and Answers about Varenicline new drug

chantix

Avatar f tn Hello, Chantix (varenicline) and Zyban (bupropion) are the only two non-nicotine medications approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for smoking cessation; both are available in pill form and only by prescription. Chantix received FDA approval in 2006; Zyban was approved in 1997. These drugs can be effective tools, but users need to be aware of some potentially serious side effects. You can try that and they are very cheap in some pharmacy's.
Avatar f tn You are talking about Chantix (Varenicline tartrate) that should be available worldwide. If not, ask your doctor for other suggestion for quitting smoking.

Avatar n tn My doctor just gave me information and samples of Symlin. This new drug was recently introduced to mimic the role that amylin would normally play in slowing down the rate that sugars leave the stomach. Generally, people who do not produce enough insulin (or any insulin) also do not produce enough amylin. Unfortunately, it is another injected drug, at meals similar to humalog.
1508600 tn?1289922250 Hi everyone, I had to go for blood work and I talked to my treatment nurse about the new drug. She said that she had to go to a seminar about three new drugs that will be coming out. She said that the drug company's told them that they should not warehouse their patients because they are not sure when the drugs will be out and the new drugs might only be for patients who have been treated before and relapsed.
Avatar f tn Went to see my Doc to get started on new drugs, because I have stage 4 portal hyper tension and likely cirrhosis. he recommends that I go into a trial at Virginia Mason for another new drug that will be added to the mix(peg, rib and incivek) He did not know much about the drug so I am hoping someone on this site does. So now I am witing again to hear from Virginia Mason to see if I am eligable for new trial.
Avatar f tn This new drug is extended release and designed for those with unmanageable pain w/o the acetaminophen which can cause liver damage. Do we need another pain med on the market? I'm not to say. The idea of extended release is to better manage the pain and reduce addiction. If this med truly helps others in severe pain with less damage to organs, then I would want to see it used when appropriate. It is a schedule II drug and designed to be heavily monitored.
1635208 tn?1300807160 anyone previously treated on new drug---am afraid it may be only for treatment naive patients (never treated before)
1327604 tn?1281866607 I have never read of anyone who was able to stop them, some chewing or using for over a decade! In addition to their new addiction there is always a health risk. I used the losenges for a short time and after a scheduled visit to my dentist who informed me that the inside of my mouth was ulcerated, I was told to stop immediately. I have heard many stories like mine and some worse.
Avatar f tn Your father undoubtedly has chronic bronchitis, due to cigarette smoking. One can have this, without having emphysema and/or the signs of obstruction to air flow. He probably does have signs of emphysema, on the CT scan. Emphysema is destruction of lung, usually but not always associated with blockage to air flow that causes shortness of breath and that may be the reason that he is able to exercise without shortness of breath. Advanced usually is synonymous with severe.
Avatar n tn Hello. My wife is type 1 and about a month ago got switched to humolog/lantus with symlin. So she hasn't had long term experience yet. From what I gathered the drug is extremely new. My wife hasn't had any sickness problems with symlin. And to be honest, she can't especially tell that it's doing anything. She had to adjust to taking more than just 1/2 of her humolog, actually she generally still has to take all of it.

Avatar f tn A friend of my was offered a trial for a new drug GS-9190 combine with SOC to treat Hep C. Has anyone participate in this trial or heard about this ? How is it? Thanks in advance for any input.
Avatar m tn Hey! I haven't ever heard of this? Is it brand new? I will ask my doctor about it. I am supposed to be starting something called "transfer factor plasmyc" that is supposed to rid me of my EBV in 6 months. It works for some people and not for others, but it's worth a shot. I have had so many relapses of EBV. I am 23 now and I first got it when I was about 16. It's been a long hard life since then. I'm also hypothyroid.
