Common Questions and Answers about Varenicline and other addictions

chantix

286124 tn?1214938528 Look into it somemore...it may have some application to other addictions...many drs are prescribing it "off-label" for alcohol additions and studies have shown that it is eefective in that area as well. So, yours is an interesting question. My guess is that even if is shows some benefit for those looking to quit opiates, I doubt it would do much for the initial phase of w/d from pills. Good question though. Do look into Chantix and Alcohol as a starting place...
Avatar f tn E cigarettes and legal smoking blends are quite potent and handy in quitting smoking. These have same effects but are safe.
Avatar f tn Hello, Chantix (varenicline) and Zyban (bupropion) are the only two non-nicotine medications approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for smoking cessation; both are available in pill form and only by prescription. Chantix received FDA approval in 2006; Zyban was approved in 1997. These drugs can be effective tools, but users need to be aware of some potentially serious side effects. You can try that and they are very cheap in some pharmacy's.
Avatar n tn Only he can do this for himself, He has to want to cut away from her. Many people leave each other and become best of friends. They just cant live together while married. He needs to make up his mind to who he really want s to live with and move on. Good luck and GOD bless.

3763041 tn?1354906251 Rehab would be a great start. My dad was addicted to opiates, and a lot of other stuff. He was finally able to get on methadone which is similar to suboxone and it helped him a lot. Google methadone clinics and see if he will try that.
Avatar f tn I'm what's wonderfully known as morbidly obese can't stand those words, but it is what it is. I weighed 139kg which is 305lb in 3months I've lost 13kg or 28.6lb.So I now weigh 126kg or 277.2lb.So I think I'll keep this addiction.
Avatar m tn The length of you having anxiety depends on how often and how much you used ecstasy. Like I stated though, I am not familiar with ecstasy addictions but I do know you NEED to quit because it is one of the most harmful drugs out there because it contains nearly all drugs in that one single pill. Quiting now will be easier than later, you can do this and if you have any questions..feel free to message me! GOOD LUCk!
Avatar n tn Unfortunately, you can't. He has to WANT to be off of it. If he does, than he could stop cold and go through withdrawal for about a week. If you're there to support him,it will go much easier for him! Good luck!
Avatar f tn What all were you taking and how much? We could try to answer the question a little better if we know more information.
Avatar n tn I went off of the sub about a month ago, had about two weeks of hell with the RLS, made an appointment with a different doc in the same clinic and he felt that taking Requip for 14 days and the other sleep aids should have worked by then. He felt there was nothing left to do but put me on oxycontin CR, it has worked well but i already feel like i need more.... I am not sure what to do now i am already dependent on the oxy. Any ideas from the the group that has been through everything.
Avatar m tn is really no reasone to get into how i got to this point but my depression is getting bad and im tired of all of it please give advice and yes i really feel i can do this just trying to prevent and harmful issues and minimize side effect as much as possible thanks
Avatar f tn He is very kind and loving, but when he slips and uses for days at a time, he is so withdrawn, and would sell steal or do anything to get what he needs. It has become scary to me, and I dont know how I should approach him, on getting back into a recovery program. He stayed clean for about 8 months, and relapsed just a week ago. He says now after 3 days of re couperating that he has re gained focus, and promises he will fix everything.
230262 tn?1316645934 THere were times when I was SURE the test was wrong ( a negative result) and I would pee on another one like 2 hours later and expect it to say positive! Does anyone else have any other strrange addiction stories they want to share now too (please, make me feel better, lol) . Isnt it weird how when you have a strong addictive personality type, you can literally get addicted to nearly ANYTHING?!
Avatar m tn as addicts we tend to try and replace our addictions with other things .i have been addicted to alcohol and pills since i was about 16.everytime i quit i eat like crazy ,smoke like crazy, try and take supplements, etc, etc, etc, i guess its just all part of trying to replace something on my part .
1135275 tn?1586565652 As I progressed, I began doing the swim leg of triathlons with a runner and and a biker doing the other two. This gave me a reason to train harder and was a lot of fun. To this day, I swim at least 3 miles a week, although I shoot for 5. I know not everyone is that in to exercise, but even walking or hiking at a moderate pace will really help with cravings. Not to mention the other health benefits.
Avatar m tn Although most of us have our DOC even though some don't like that term, many here dabbled with different drugs. When i was in college i did drink too much, but now i don't have any cravings or desire to drink as it still sometimes sets off coke cravings and i hate the drunk buzz. I switched from booze to weed, a few pills along with some other street drugs over the years.
595559 tn?1241140638 ibizan gave you the best advice and it sounds like you kind of knew already what the deal was. i traded addictions for years and it took a long, long time for me to finally accept and admit that i can't use any of it. no o'douls, no pot, no banana peels, none of it. and i have yet to meet another chemically dependent person that can do so successfully (without negative consequences).
Avatar f tn Sometimes I let other people and their judgements of my addictions affect me. Some of the people around me think I should just knock it off. I always thought of addict as people on the street with a belt around their arm and a needle sticking out. I never ever thought that I could be an addict. Little did I know !
Avatar f tn I am in a relationship of 3 years and have 3 children. My other half has several addictions that of late have started to worry me greatly. He smokes roughly 20 - 30 cigarettes a day and also smokes maybe 6-7 marajuana joints a day also. He drinks up to 8 cans of beer a day and also takes cocaine on a daily basis. Surprisingly we have a happy family life and my other half loves our childrem dearly and as a great dad.
Avatar f tn As long as the kids were at the patriarche, they were fine but Most who had gone back into the real world also went back to their old habits. Today, more and more rehabs rely on the use of sedatives and other controlled substances to alleviate these symptoms but their administration is supervised by neuro specialists and other med personel. And they are prescribed for as long as the physical symptoms persist. Again, what doesnt work for me may work for u.
1117550 tn?1258987078 It is hard but doable and really important! All the people here have been in the same place and can give you lots of help and support. Sometimes it is easiest to taper off by slowing reducing the amount of pills. How many were you taking and for how long. For local support probably the best route is a drug counselor (see phone book sometimes under special services in the front) or call the NA number for meetings (hard to do I know but also possible).
Avatar m tn s time to take back your life and start living the happy, fulfilling life you deserve and want. There is so much help for you, and starting with AA and a psychiatrist is your best bet. You're not dying....yet, but you need to seek the needed help to turn this all around. Things happen in life which can be too much on us, and that's okay so long as you get the proper help.
Avatar n tn I am not here to put down what you are saying sub does help but you also have withdraws coming off of them some ppl have just as bad w/d as they did when they were on oc, roxy..etc I took suboxone for 3 months starting at 24mg and tappering down to 2 mg and was on 2mg for week then c/t and the w/d ***** i was sick same as oc so I then went to methadone and have been on it for yr and doing well and yes that too has w/d just bad so its all taking you to w/d you have to be ready to overcome them.
