Avatar m tn Has anyone tried Valganciclovir? Dr. Jose Montoya says a5 year treatment can help patients with CFS brought on by EBV.
1054753 tn?1339968724 Talking to people who have undergone transplants even if it is not a liver transplant will give you a better indication of the variation in the quality of post transplant life. From my experience as a liver transplant recipient and the numerous other transplant recipients I have met at TRIO (Transplant Recipients International Organization), recipients generally have a much better quality of life then before the transplant.
Avatar f tn I also cannot answer your question about difficulty of receiving a transplant in India I have heard it can take months or years of waiting in the United States. I have heard people who have received a liver transplant can go on to live many more years after a successful transplant procedure.
Avatar f tn I have been told that my sister is the sickest patient within her region due to final stages of liver cirrosis, yet she is not a candid to be put on a list for a liver transplant even that she has me who will be a living donor. The reason she can't be put on the list is because she has been listed as an alcoholic. She is 49 years old and did not drink daily.
82818 tn?1206989814 t comment on your medical condition, but I can tell you from experience that the closest good liver transplant center to the panhandle of Florida is Shands at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Unless things have changed dramatically since I lived there, Shands at Gainesville or Jacksonville are the most accessible for people in northern Florida.
Avatar f tn My mom had HBV and now she needs liver transplant. My sister is 23 years old and overweight. She wants to give her a part of her liver because they have the same type of blood. I would like to know if that possible and it will not be dangerous on my mom or my sister.
Avatar f tn Hello Everyone, I am posting concering a family member that has be diagnosed with Cryptogenic Liver Cirrhosis. We have consulted with the transplant team and at this point, this family member is “too good” to receive a transplant. There score is 10/15. What does this mean? I have been looking through a number of scoring criteria and none end in 15? I looked at the “MELD” score and “PELD” scoring, these do not seem to apply. Any direction? Also, anyone in this situation?
Avatar f tn He was told that his liver was decompensated and he needed a liver transplant. First he has to be approved by Medicaid and they are not in any rush on that. His doctor told him this week that his MELD score had gone from a 12 to a 20. He tires very easily now and he goes weekly to get his abdomen drained. At first they were getting 1-2 liters fluid and the last 3 weeks they have drawn 6 liters at each visit. What is the outlook for him with him not being on the transplant list yet?
Avatar m tn Assuming your current doctor is correct and you will need a liver transplant you should find a hepatologist at a liver transplant center to evaluate the status of your liver disease. The sooner you make contact with the transplant center the better. It is unclear why you stopped treatment. Was this treatment the last attempt to cure your hepatitis C before your advanced liver disease made it impossible to treat due to the risk of further damaging your liver?
1746242 tn?1318209702 I would have to write a book to explain all the particulars about HCV and liver transplant and liver cancer, but I will try to simplify this issue as best I can. First is this a story that you read in the newspaper or on television? The "so-called" facts are stated are more like a fairly tale as anyone who is either listed for transplant or has had a transplant can tell you.
Avatar n tn If you mean liver transplant then look for a university hospital. Consult with a Hepatologist (liver specialist), they will know where transplant hospitals are.
Avatar m tn If you are staged as 3-4, you would be considered mildly cirrhotic, with low likelihood of needing a transplant anytime soon (unless you have other factors in addition to hep c contributing to rapid liver damage). Many people even in Stage 4 retain good liver function and normal quality of life for years. The new meds are expected to be available next year, and the success rates are very encouraging, even for relapsers.
Avatar m tn They will evaluate her current health and determine if and how soon she will need a liver transplant. Only a hepatologist (liver specialist who works on a daily basis with patients like your daughter) can help your daughter. As they learn more about her condition they will help her to manage the complications from her liver disease and keep her as healthy as possible for as long as possible before she needs a liver transplant.
Avatar f tn t tolerate any treatment for your hepatitis C and therefore your only option is a liver transplant? When was the last time you treated your hepatitis C and with what drugs can't you take?
Avatar m tn Hi, I am a post liver transplant patient who treated his hepatitis C twice before my liver transplant and just recently after my liver transplant I treated for the third time and was cured. Thanks to new available treatments hepatitis C treatment in post liver transplant patients is highly effective.and similar to pretransplant patients for the first time ever.
