Has anyone tried Valganciclovir? Dr. Jose Montoya says a5 year treatment can help patients with CFS brought on by EBV.
Also oral Valcyte/valganciclovir has been shown to be effective in treating mild to moderate cases of CMV disease in transplant recipients. Reduction in the degree of immunosuppression should complement the antiviral treatment of CMV disease.

My husband has ESRD, has been having home hemodialysis for 9 months, and is listed for a kidney transplant. After he went on dialysis his urine production slowed down to twice a day which I was told is expected. For the last few days he has almost gotten back to his normal urine production.
We have assessed the persistence of HCV in 26 kidney-transplant patients, followed up for 10.5 years (range 2-16), after HCV elimination while on hemodialysis. If HCV really did persist, arising out of the loss of immune control caused by institution of the regimen of immunosuppressive drugs after kidney transplantation, HCV reactivation would have taken place. Their immunosuppression relied on calcineurin inhibitors (100%), and/or steroids (62%), and/or antimetabolites (94%).

Hi - I had a skin infection around my fistula area (hemodialysis). I am seeing the doctor at the dialysis center tomorrow. I also checked the internet and discovered that it causes muscle cramps, which I also had yesterday (severe) and bloody mucous inn stool. Since I've been on it intravenously for about 2 weeks and only have 2 more treatments, I'm asking not to do the remainder until the doctor shows up tomorrow am.
I am starting IFN (pegylated alpha 2a) next week. Because I am on home hemodialysis for ESRD caused by diabetes - now well controlled, I can't use Riba and I am interested if there is any efficacy studies on supplementing with l glutathione, naringenin, Nac or one of the plethora of substances I've read about in Professional Journals on the net. Worried about the drug interractions/?kidney clearance of naringenin. Phosphatidyl choline??
Hi Dianee, we are going through the same thing with my dad. He will be 13 yrs post liver transplant on Feb 22, 2009. He is very sick and they are saying a kidney transplant is now needed. His progression has rapidly increased within less than two months. What are they saying is going on? What is your urine output? 24 hour urine test did they do that? t close properly, and he had a defibulator put in about three months ago. He has been on hemodialysis for 9 years. He has just finished 6 weeks of IV antibiotics for an infection that attached to his arotic valve and also in the lining of his heart. Dr. says the vegetation is still attached to the arotic valve however the infection seems to be cleared up. My husband's heart is to weak and worn to survive any kind of surgery to remove the vegetation.
9,9a Follow-up testing is recommended for those who remain at risk of infection such as health care workers, infants of HBsAg-positive mothers and sexual partners of persons with chronic HBV infection. If someone was to train to give home hemodialysis, then the amount of time per day could possibly be cut down to 2 hours. Of course she would have to do it everyday, intstead of 3 days a week. Besides not having to sit for so many hours at a time, there have been studies that show the death rate of daily users is lower. The argument is that, most of the toxins are pulled out during the first 2 hours of dialysis, and therefore, the people who do it everyday have a higher sucess rate.
Since treatment of clots is very restrictive in her case, maybe aspirin can be tried. In patients on hemodialysis aspirin is known to decrease the chances of stroke, without increasing the chances of bleeding. However, the dose needs to be adjusted well. Also aspirin can be combined with Coumadin. Aspirin can be combined with clopidogrel also and reduces the risk of stroke. Please discuss these options with her treating doctor.
There is no absolute contraindication for hemodialysis but there are some relative contraindications that his doctors may have considered. There are many possible factors to consider such as your husband's co-morbid conditions as well as his recent heart attack, symptoms and over-all health. It is highly recommended that you talk to his doctors for proper evaluation. Discuss the management plan also to erase any doubts. Take care and best regards.

My mom is on hemodialysis treatment and has difficulty maintaining a good protein level. Her protein levels fall between 3.0-3.4. She gets sick from the protein drink, except for Isopure plus. Is there anything else she can take in addition to the food intake?
The other common ways you can get hepatitis C are from a blood product and/or a blood transfusion you received before 1992. People who undergo hemodialysis treatments (blood filtering) are also at risk. Less common ways that HCV is transmitted are from an HCV positive mother who can pass it on to her baby,
but this doesn’t happen very often.
