tricor vs lovaza

I have tried a lot of meds for this condition, have taken advicor,lipitor,crestor,zetia,tricor,provastatin,niaspan,gemfibronil. I have been on lovaza (omega 3,and 6 ) for the pass five months, but as you can see it has not helped very much. Heart doctor says I have taken the limit. All of these choles meds causes me to ache in my muscles very very bad, and dr. says this could be a serious situation. I need to know from someone please what can I take now ?. I need very bad to be on some med.

There is a very potent medicine in the drug class known as fenofibrates, named Tricor that was created to specifically reduce triglycerides. It works great, but carries the same warnings as statins. Also, Tricor should not be taken with statins but sometimes is in very extreme cases of total high cholesterol and triglycerides. My total cholesterol at the time was 486.

I am on a lot of medications 1 plavix 2 cardizem 3 lipitor 4 tricor 5 lovaza 6 aspirin 7 gabapentin 8 zocor 9 prevacid 10 spirvia 11 perocet for the nerve pain. Is there a certian medication you were talking about. I have had several conversations with my heart and family doctor about these pains and pressure and it seems to fall on deaf ears. Can this cause me more health problems if it continues and nothing is done about it.

t even touch it.i use nitro and after 2 or 3 it relieves it i am on alot of meds plavix,cardizem,lovaza,lipitor,tricor,aspirin,nitro. i was told by my gp that they may have damaged a nerve i have had 2 femorl nerve blocks that didn't give me any relief with the last being yesterday the doctor that did this said he didn't think it would help. what do you do when your in severe pain. i have a big knot in my right femoral artery please help me get some ansewers.

Wow, I wasn't aware of Tricor causing elevation of blood sugar. Seems I need to research Tricor a bit more.

My doctor's office called yesterday afternoon to give me the results of my blood work. Seems my triglycerides were so high they weren't able to measure my bad cholesterol. My total cholesterol was over 2,250. That seems impossible, but that's what they told me. He called out Tricor 145 mg for me to start taking. Anyone else ever hear about levels that high?

I had always said no to statins in the past because I had infectious hepatitis (not any type C, caught it from my younger brother) as a child and feared I had liver damage from that. But when the doctor called after that test I decided I would try Tricor. (fenofibrate I think is what it is) I took it for a month, then stopped, then again a month later took it for a month. Then stopped again. My brother jumped all over me this year and is forcing me to take it.

For high triglycerides, I have been taking Lovaza for a month...last night, i suddenly noticed this horrible smell of fish, like Iw as standing in a fish market. St first I thought something had been in my son's pocket when i washed clothes. iw as taking clean clothes from the dryer and there was this horrible fishy smell. When I could still smell it everywhere this morning, I wodnered if it might just be something that I'm smelling as a side effect of the Lovaza.

Hey everyone, are any of you on synthroid and on Tricor? If you have been reading my posts you will have seen that I have been having problems with shortness of breath and palputations, Thinking it was my synthroid I started adjusting my dose. Then I did have a slight problem with peanut allergies. After not eating peanuts, the breathing problems and palputations continued. Last night I looked up the side effects of tricor ( I started them mid December) by Christmas the problems started.

Have they suggested taking a statin? My trigs are actually over 2100. I take Tricor to keep these down.

Its particularly worse combined with tricor. The pain actually feels like its in my bones at the joints. I have taken tricor for almost 20 years and I just started having this problem about 6-8 months ago. The pain in the morning makes me feel like I am 100 and my body is betraying me! This is what I noticed that changed. I initially started off on the brand name fenofibrate, Tricor - had no problems. Then they added Crestor(name brand) because that was the only people that made it.

Also, the additional med that your doctor was talking about is most likely a fenofibrate like Tricor which is commonly added to a statin med. I am on both and they have worked very well for me with no side effects.

I have recently been hearing about Lovaza (fish oil) for treating bipolar. Has anyone had any experience with this med? I have found out that my insurance covers it. Any side effects I should know about? Does it work? Thanks for your help.

My second question is, in the absence of fenofibrates what other alternative medicines can be taken ? Fish oil like Lovaza is out because that acts as a mild blood thinner. I am prone to serious nose bleeding because of Efient and aspirin.

I have high cholesterol and triglecirides. Doctor prescribed LOVAZA for my condition. After taking this medicine for couple days I felt bloated in my stomach and the bloatedness continued off an on. I continued to take the medicine for two months hoping my stomach will get adjusted to this medicine but one day I had alchol in the evening and next day I had a very strong Acid Reflux for all day . I must have had almost whole bottle of peptobismol and stopped taking LOVAZA.

My brother and I both have this and it is totally under control with meds for both of us. My triglycerides were over 2100 before I started taking Tricor. My brother takes Tricor and Lovastatin. Both of us now have normal readings.

My Asthma Dr. said that he would consider changing from Lipitor 5 mg to Crestor (dosage not yet mentioned) after 1 more blood test. 3 years ago another dr. suggested a change, but cardiologist said no need to. Another Dr. (forum) suggested using, in addition to Fish oil for tri-glycerides, niacin. And he said statin users should take CO-enzyme Q 300 mg.

In addition to that of course I have to take a statin and Tricor. Good news is that Tricor will have a generic out in May. I was also told by my pharmicist that Plavix has a generic coming out in July. Ask your pharmicist if there is a generic of Niaspan due out any time soon. And as Flycaster has stated, with the Niacin there is a flushing feeling also. It only bothered me if I didn't take an aspirin just before taking the niacin. My doctor told me about that.

My Triglicerides are now very low, my HDL cholesterol is about 60, my LDL was 72, which is where it is supposed to be for someone who has had heart attacks and bypass surgery. Just a thought to save folks a bunch of money.

Fish oil has shown some promise as an adjunct to standard mood stabilizers and I took in the past for that purpose as well as other uses as determined by a doctor or psychiatrist. However now that there is the FDA approved medication Lovaza that was developed from fish oil and although developed as an anti-cholesterol medication is used off label for bipolar (there may be other uses as well within a doctor's discretion) that is one that more psychiatrists are wiling to prescribe.

You can google the warnings and side effects of that one. I also take Tricor for my hyperlipidemia. But that is a fenofibrate, not a statin. Have you ever tried the grandfather of statins, Lipitor? Talk to your doctor and get the straight answers.

My Tryglecerides are reading 300 and my cholesterol is over 200, I'm on 145 mg of Tricor and my prescription went up from 20 mg. to 40 mgs of Crestor; I was wondering what the possible side effects of taking these two everyday are. If someone would please write me and let me know. I would truly appreciate it.
