tricor

822804 tn?1298226302 Have they suggested taking a statin? My trigs are actually over 2100. I take Tricor to keep these down.
Avatar n tn In addition to that of course I have to take a statin and Tricor. Good news is that Tricor will have a generic out in May. I was also told by my pharmicist that Plavix has a generic coming out in July. Ask your pharmicist if there is a generic of Niaspan due out any time soon. And as Flycaster has stated, with the Niacin there is a flushing feeling also. It only bothered me if I didn't take an aspirin just before taking the niacin. My doctor told me about that.
Avatar n tn Are you sure the statin is the cause of the gout? If so then Doctor should recommend change in statin....there are many out there to choose from.
Avatar n tn Its particularly worse combined with tricor. The pain actually feels like its in my bones at the joints. I have taken tricor for almost 20 years and I just started having this problem about 6-8 months ago. The pain in the morning makes me feel like I am 100 and my body is betraying me! This is what I noticed that changed. I initially started off on the brand name fenofibrate, Tricor - had no problems. Then they added Crestor(name brand) because that was the only people that made it.
Avatar m tn I take both Tricor and a statin, Simvastatin. There are no issues taking a fenofibrate such as Tricor and a statin. The problem comes in when taking a fibrate and a statin. The combination have worked very well for me.
Avatar n tn Having said that, your PVCs may be anxiety related to statin use. There are many cases where side effects from control groups of statin users and placebo users occur at the same rate. This is a classic placebo affect which you may also be experiencing.
Avatar n tn There is a very potent medicine in the drug class known as fenofibrates, named Tricor that was created to specifically reduce triglycerides. It works great, but carries the same warnings as statins. Also, Tricor should not be taken with statins but sometimes is in very extreme cases of total high cholesterol and triglycerides. My total cholesterol at the time was 486.
Avatar m tn I have this problem and take a fenofibrate (Tricor) and a statin.
Avatar f tn i take tricor for my trigs they were over 600 got them down to 137 in 6 weeks i had no side affects
Avatar n tn Your numbers are high, but you need to look at the breakdown. First off, your TGL's should be under 150. Not hard, just cut out the empty carbs like breads, sugars, pastas etc. Also, drinking will elevate your TGL's so don't over do it. You could start on a Fenofibrate like Tricor to lower your TGL's it works well. A statin will not really do that much.
Avatar m tn Has the doctor prescribed a statin for you to take. I know my triglycerides were over 2100. I looked this up on the internet and found that it is called familial hypercholesterolemia. I was given Tricor and Lovastatin to control this. Now my cholesterol is in normal range.
Avatar m tn Any fenofibrate is safe to use. One name is Tricor and it does a good job lowering serum TGL's. You can also impact your TGL's by cutting out all empty carbs like breads, pastas, sugar and alcohol as it metabolizes as sugars. I would try that first unless your numbers a very high, in excess of 400.
Avatar m tn Wow, I wasn't aware of Tricor causing elevation of blood sugar. Seems I need to research Tricor a bit more.
237039 tn?1264258057 I had always said no to statins in the past because I had infectious hepatitis (not any type C, caught it from my younger brother) as a child and feared I had liver damage from that. But when the doctor called after that test I decided I would try Tricor. (fenofibrate I think is what it is) I took it for a month, then stopped, then again a month later took it for a month. Then stopped again. My brother jumped all over me this year and is forcing me to take it.
Avatar f tn Also, the additional med that your doctor was talking about is most likely a fenofibrate like Tricor which is commonly added to a statin med. I am on both and they have worked very well for me with no side effects.
252327 tn?1250183976 Hey everyone, are any of you on synthroid and on Tricor? If you have been reading my posts you will have seen that I have been having problems with shortness of breath and palputations, Thinking it was my synthroid I started adjusting my dose. Then I did have a slight problem with peanut allergies. After not eating peanuts, the breathing problems and palputations continued. Last night I looked up the side effects of tricor ( I started them mid December) by Christmas the problems started.
Avatar n tn I am not quoting an incidence rate based on friends and family with adverse reactions, I am quoting the incidence rate as found in the 4S study comparing a statin control group to a placebo control group. The statin group reported 1 incidence in 2,220 and the placebo group 1 in 2,223. Also, statins do nothing to the heart or cardiovascular systems so I doubt if they had anything to do with your uncle's condition. The important thing is he recovered.
Avatar m tn Your numbers are not really all that bad, everything looks good except your TGLs unless you have other risks for heart disease and a statin such as Tonact TG does not usually help lower TGLs. As you most likely know, your TGLs should be under 150. Normally a doctor will prescribe a fenofibrate like Tricor for TGLs, but I'm sure your doctor has weighed the risks and benefits for you in making his choice, but it may be worth asking him.
Avatar n tn Have any of his relatives had heart attacks at a young age? He should be on a statin immediately. Even with his current diet and sedentary lifestyle, a cholesterol lowering statin would go a long way to getting his numbers better. My total cholesterol went from 264 to 110 on a low dose of Crestor.
Avatar n tn Hello unmanageable, I hear your frustration. I have a few suggestions coming from my experience as a long time Type 1 diabetic who's tried to keep fairly current on what's what. As I read your posting, it seems as though you're being treated as a Type 2 which is similar to, but not exactly the same as Type 1. Keeping your blood PRESSURE under good control is essential for all diabetics, so I'm glad you honored your doc's advice to restart those meds.
237039 tn?1264258057 My doctor's office called yesterday afternoon to give me the results of my blood work. Seems my triglycerides were so high they weren't able to measure my bad cholesterol. My total cholesterol was over 2,250. That seems impossible, but that's what they told me. He called out Tricor 145 mg for me to start taking. Anyone else ever hear about levels that high?
Avatar n tn I've been off my statins (Zocor and Tricor) for a couple of months now and it seems my palps are way less frequent. I'm not sure if it's coincidence or if I'm just in one of those quiet palp times that we all experience. The problem is that I'm sure my cholesterol has gone up since I've been off my meds. I'm going to get it rechecked soon and then weigh my options.
Avatar f tn My brother and I both have this and it is totally under control with meds for both of us. My triglycerides were over 2100 before I started taking Tricor. My brother takes Tricor and Lovastatin. Both of us now have normal readings.
745393 tn?1345077196 I have tried a lot of meds for this condition, have taken advicor, lipitor, crestor, zetia, tricor, provastatin, niaspan, gemfibronil.
