Tricor rhabdomyolysis

Common Questions and Answers about Tricor rhabdomyolysis

tricor

Avatar n tn Its particularly worse combined with tricor. The pain actually feels like its in my bones at the joints. I have taken tricor for almost 20 years and I just started having this problem about 6-8 months ago. The pain in the morning makes me feel like I am 100 and my body is betraying me! This is what I noticed that changed. I initially started off on the brand name fenofibrate, Tricor - had no problems. Then they added Crestor(name brand) because that was the only people that made it.
Avatar m tn Wow, I wasn't aware of Tricor causing elevation of blood sugar. Seems I need to research Tricor a bit more.
237039 tn?1264258057 I had always said no to statins in the past because I had infectious hepatitis (not any type C, caught it from my younger brother) as a child and feared I had liver damage from that. But when the doctor called after that test I decided I would try Tricor. (fenofibrate I think is what it is) I took it for a month, then stopped, then again a month later took it for a month. Then stopped again. My brother jumped all over me this year and is forcing me to take it.
252327 tn?1250183976 Hey everyone, are any of you on synthroid and on Tricor? If you have been reading my posts you will have seen that I have been having problems with shortness of breath and palputations, Thinking it was my synthroid I started adjusting my dose. Then I did have a slight problem with peanut allergies. After not eating peanuts, the breathing problems and palputations continued. Last night I looked up the side effects of tricor ( I started them mid December) by Christmas the problems started.
822804 tn?1298226302 Have they suggested taking a statin? My trigs are actually over 2100. I take Tricor to keep these down.
Avatar f tn What will happen if an athlete with Rhabdomyolysis continues to play his sport? What will happen in the long run?
1385464 tn?1293443504 What would cause rhabdomyolysis if I contracted it somehow earlier this year but was NOT in the general categories that usually cause it? (like drug use, being still for a long period of time, etc) My creatine kinase levels STILL-months later-rise and fall. I don't get it. Does anyone have an answer? Not sure if I should categorize this in rare diseases or autoimmune disorders...
Avatar m tn Since you know your CK levels, I assume you've seen a doctor about this? Do you have other symptoms, like muscle tenderness, nausea, etc? In any case, high CK and dark urine are among the signs of rhabdomyolysis (google it), which is not a Good Thing. It's a breakdown of skeletal muscle. It can be caused by too- vigorous exercise, especially when dehydrated, among other things.
Avatar n tn This intense pain is a symptom of rhabdomyolysis,a rare condition that causes muscle cells to break down. This does not make your muscle tissue "mushy", it just causes cells t breakdown. The most common signs and symptoms of rhabdomyolysis include: * Severe muscle aching throughout the entire body * Muscle weakness * Dark or cola-colored urine These symptoms usually occur in the first 90 days of treatment and happen in less than 1% of those taking Lipitor.
Avatar f tn My brother and I both have this and it is totally under control with meds for both of us. My triglycerides were over 2100 before I started taking Tricor. My brother takes Tricor and Lovastatin. Both of us now have normal readings.
Avatar n tn There is a very potent medicine in the drug class known as fenofibrates, named Tricor that was created to specifically reduce triglycerides. It works great, but carries the same warnings as statins. Also, Tricor should not be taken with statins but sometimes is in very extreme cases of total high cholesterol and triglycerides. My total cholesterol at the time was 486.
1798872 tn?1346164585 Doc i spent the weekend in the heart care of a hosp.i have had rhabdomyolysis in the past,in the e.r. after blood work the doctor said i had a heartattack, when i got to my room a different doctor said it was"nt a heartattack it was due to my rhabdomyolysis, any thoughts?
Avatar n tn In addition to that of course I have to take a statin and Tricor. Good news is that Tricor will have a generic out in May. I was also told by my pharmicist that Plavix has a generic coming out in July. Ask your pharmicist if there is a generic of Niaspan due out any time soon. And as Flycaster has stated, with the Niacin there is a flushing feeling also. It only bothered me if I didn't take an aspirin just before taking the niacin. My doctor told me about that.
745393 tn?1345077196 I have tried a lot of meds for this condition, have taken advicor, lipitor, crestor, zetia, tricor, provastatin, niaspan, gemfibronil. I have been on lovaza (omega 3,and 6 ) for the pass five months, but as you can see it has not helped very much. Heart doctor says I have taken the limit. All of these choles meds causes me to ache in my muscles very very bad, and dr. says this could be a serious situation. I need to know from someone please what can I take now ?. I need very bad to be on some med.
Avatar f tn Vytorin does a remarkable job of reducing your Cholesterol, much better than Zocor (Simvastatin) alone. However, Zetia doesn't seem to add anything to the picture as far as preventing heart disease is concened. But read this about Zocor: -"Zocor Users Not Warned of Risks: The FDA's June 2011 safety alert is the most serious of many warnings regarding Zocor and associated risks of myopathy and rhabdomyolysis. Zocor manufacturer Merck & Co.
Avatar n tn Rhabdomyolysis is a life-threatening condition that results from myositis, a condition which destroys muscle cells causing pain, particularly in the calves and lower back. The condition can become so severe that it leads to kidney failure. Symptoms of rhabdomyolysis include, but may not be limited to, muscle pain, weakness, tenderness, fever, dark urine, nausea, and vomiting.
Avatar f tn MB bands which are Cardiac Bands and MM bands which are muscle bands. Weight lifters or people with rhabdomyolysis can knock the MM bands way out of whack. Muscle breakdown will throw the MM band quite high.
Avatar n tn About 4 years ago, I was overworked by a personal trainer in the gym and ended up in the hospital for 5 days due to Rhabdomyolysis. I had never heard of this disease before this day. Turns out the trainer overworked me. Needless to say, I am not a big fan of exercise since then. I've dabbled with it over the past few years.
782988 tn?1242685985 Can you add Tricor That is on of my meds for Cholesterol
Avatar n tn You can google the warnings and side effects of that one. I also take Tricor for my hyperlipidemia. But that is a fenofibrate, not a statin. Have you ever tried the grandfather of statins, Lipitor? Talk to your doctor and get the straight answers.
Avatar m tn Did your doctor prescribe 2,000 per day and is that what you took? Your post is also not clear when you say consecutive 3-4 dosing at 2,000.
Avatar f tn My Tryglecerides are reading 300 and my cholesterol is over 200, I'm on 145 mg of Tricor and my prescription went up from 20 mg. to 40 mgs of Crestor; I was wondering what the possible side effects of taking these two everyday are. If someone would please write me and let me know. I would truly appreciate it.
Avatar n tn Rhabdomyolysis, kidney problems so that I ultimately had to stop them, but knee burning/pain while walking wasn't one of them.
Avatar m tn Yes, dehydration causes a higher creatinine reading.
Avatar n tn Those tests showed that my CPK levels exceeded 135,000 and i was diagnosed with Rhabdomyolysis. All other tests did not reveal the cause of the Rhabdomyolysis but no-one at the hospital seemed to have ever heard of cpk levels this high. My searches on the internet have also not revealed any levels nearing this. I am now down to 4000 (and hopefully dropping). any thoughts? have there been other cases with cpk levels exceeding 135,000 and what was the cause?
Avatar f tn The earlier mentioned side effect caused by the group of medications known as the statins, which Vytorin (ezetimibe/simvastatin) is a member of, is called rhabdomyolysis. This condition is breakdown of the muscle and has been associated with the statins as a class as a rare but serious side effect. Rhabdomyolysis caused by statins is reversible once the medication has been discontinued.
Avatar f tn It can potentially be an early indicator of a very serious condition called rhabdomyolysis that can be a side effect. Dark urine can also accompany rhabdomyolysis. From what I see on line, creatinine kinase is what your doctor should have tested and if it is elevated, the drug should be discontinued.
