822804 tn?1298226302 I have learned that I had hashimotos disease but not until after my thyroid was removed. My triglycerides are 263..how can I lower that number.I am currently taking fish oil 1,000mg - they have increased my dosage from twice daily to three times daily..any other suggestions?
Avatar n tn My triglycerides used to be elevated, not that high, but over normal. I beleive it was close to 200. What lowered mine was taking fish oil liquid. The "Carlson" Fish oil is the best and it is the ONLY thing that lowers it. I take it twice a day, morning and night, a tablespoon, I would not be without it. My triglycerides are now 72. A person should start noticing a difference in about 3 to 6 months. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn Any fenofibrate is safe to use. One name is Tricor and it does a good job lowering serum TGL's. You can also impact your TGL's by cutting out all empty carbs like breads, pastas, sugar and alcohol as it metabolizes as sugars. I would try that first unless your numbers a very high, in excess of 400.
Avatar m tn Wow, I wasn't aware of Tricor causing elevation of blood sugar. Seems I need to research Tricor a bit more.
237039 tn?1264258057 I had always said no to statins in the past because I had infectious hepatitis (not any type C, caught it from my younger brother) as a child and feared I had liver damage from that. But when the doctor called after that test I decided I would try Tricor. (fenofibrate I think is what it is) I took it for a month, then stopped, then again a month later took it for a month. Then stopped again. My brother jumped all over me this year and is forcing me to take it.
252327 tn?1250183976 Hey everyone, are any of you on synthroid and on Tricor? If you have been reading my posts you will have seen that I have been having problems with shortness of breath and palputations, Thinking it was my synthroid I started adjusting my dose. Then I did have a slight problem with peanut allergies. After not eating peanuts, the breathing problems and palputations continued. Last night I looked up the side effects of tricor ( I started them mid December) by Christmas the problems started.
1462455 tn?1313081703 Is Lipitor as effective as Tricor in lowering chlorestrol. Significant difference in price? How about Lopid as well?
Avatar n tn Its particularly worse combined with tricor. The pain actually feels like its in my bones at the joints. I have taken tricor for almost 20 years and I just started having this problem about 6-8 months ago. The pain in the morning makes me feel like I am 100 and my body is betraying me! This is what I noticed that changed. I initially started off on the brand name fenofibrate, Tricor - had no problems. Then they added Crestor(name brand) because that was the only people that made it.
Avatar n tn To lower them, I would start taking a good, fish oil supplement, a high potency B complex and Vitamin C. Also, cut way back on your sugar intake. Make sure you get exercise as well. After a few months on this regime your numbers should start improving.
Avatar n tn I tried the diet, exercise and Omega 3 Fish oil alternative and finally gave in when my triglycerides hit 2100. The Tricor has corrected that problem. So it's a matter of peference and what you are comfortable with.
Avatar n tn I have been on a plant based diet for about a month also avoiding most oils and nos soft drinks of any kind. Also I take 1200 mgs of fish oil daily. I had high Triglyceride and low HDL reading a few years back when I was tested. At that point they said I had a fatty liver also. The test results now are; Total Cholesterol 153 Triglycerides 258 HDL 28 LDL 73 Chol to HDL ratio 5.5 LDL HDL ratio 2.
Avatar f tn I did even more research and figured out that I was prescribed Tricor about a month and 1/2 ago. I looked up Tricor's side effects and it seems that there can be a GERD type reaction and one commenter even said they had to go to the ER with chest pains. I stopped taking the Tricor and my GERD symptoms have much improved. I began generic prilosec and it didn't seem to help me. But stopping the Tricor has. My breathing has improved.
Avatar n tn High cholesterol runs in my family so even with diet and exercise my numbers are still a little high. I started getting heart palpitations a few years ago and after a lot of testing was told they were harmless PVC's/PAC's. Well, I stoped taking my Tricor and Zocor for a few months and my heart palps were gone. The problem is that my cholesterol numbers went back up. I started back on the statins and low and behold the palps returned.
Avatar f tn My brother and I both have this and it is totally under control with meds for both of us. My triglycerides were over 2100 before I started taking Tricor. My brother takes Tricor and Lovastatin. Both of us now have normal readings.
Avatar m tn Because of my extremely high trigs I take Tricor, but wonder if I should also be taking a statin. My cholesterol is out of whack all across the board. I have heard that taking a statin with Tricor is not wise. Any thoughts on this, Jon?

Avatar n tn In addition to that of course I have to take a statin and Tricor. Good news is that Tricor will have a generic out in May. I was also told by my pharmicist that Plavix has a generic coming out in July. Ask your pharmicist if there is a generic of Niaspan due out any time soon. And as Flycaster has stated, with the Niacin there is a flushing feeling also. It only bothered me if I didn't take an aspirin just before taking the niacin. My doctor told me about that.
745393 tn?1345077196 I have tried a lot of meds for this condition, have taken advicor, lipitor, crestor, zetia, tricor, provastatin, niaspan, gemfibronil. I have been on lovaza (omega 3,and 6 ) for the pass five months, but as you can see it has not helped very much. Heart doctor says I have taken the limit. All of these choles meds causes me to ache in my muscles very very bad, and dr. says this could be a serious situation. I need to know from someone please what can I take now ?. I need very bad to be on some med.

237039 tn?1264258057 Iliac is bocked again...............My trigs are still over 900 because I never got into the habit of taking my Tricor and Pravastatin. I need to take that every day along with Plavix. My doctor is amazed that I am still among the living and able to walk as much as I do since these MIs have been going on since 2004. Texas High Risk Pool Insurance and my meds are the only thing I work for these days. Picked up 3 meds last night at the tune of $400. Take care all, I be back soon.
Avatar f tn I will say that his triglycerides were discovered to be high a few years ago, and he has been on Tricor. But all this non-interest started long before the tricor. However, the triglycerides and cholesterol were probably high early on, and went even higher before meds. I've read about male metabolic syndrome and that it can cause these type sexual problems. Should he go for more extensive testosterone testing?
Avatar f tn He has CAD (6 stents and a CABG) and is currently taking Plavix, Toprol, ASA, Tricor, Zocor, Fish oil, Imdur, and a multivitamin. Is it possible it is related to medication?
Avatar n tn my good cholesterol is at only 25. after 6 months of perscription fish oil, now on niaspan. coreg, 80mg. lisinerpril, bumex, spirolactine, byetta, 10mg 2x a day, lantus, 60 units at night, crestor, tricor too. 782988 tn?1242685985 Can you add Tricor That is on of my meds for Cholesterol
Avatar n tn You can google the warnings and side effects of that one. I also take Tricor for my hyperlipidemia. But that is a fenofibrate, not a statin. Have you ever tried the grandfather of statins, Lipitor? Talk to your doctor and get the straight answers.
Avatar f tn My Tryglecerides are reading 300 and my cholesterol is over 200, I'm on 145 mg of Tricor and my prescription went up from 20 mg. to 40 mgs of Crestor; I was wondering what the possible side effects of taking these two everyday are. If someone would please write me and let me know. I would truly appreciate it.
Avatar m tn Yes, dehydration causes a higher creatinine reading.
Avatar f tn My husband resisted his suggestion of doing a cath, so he was given a prescription for Tricor 145mg. The doctor drew a diagram of the procedure that was used and in the area where there is apparently blockage a T was used to do 2 bypasses. The cardiologist seemed concerned that a stent may be difficult or impossible to place there. My questions are: 1: How can blockage occur so soon after surgery and should we expect more of the same in the near future?
