745393 tn?1345077196 I recently had a visit with heart doctor. I had test done, found out that my cholesterol was 190. Couple of months ago it was 166. I have tried a lot of meds for this condition, have taken advicor, lipitor, crestor, zetia, tricor, provastatin, niaspan, gemfibronil. I have been on lovaza (omega 3,and 6 ) for the pass five months, but as you can see it has not helped very much. Heart doctor says I have taken the limit. All of these choles meds causes me to ache in my muscles very very bad, and dr.
Avatar n tn total cholesterol = 487, and triglycerides were over 2000, about 10 years ago. I have a genetic condition that causes this. So, in spite of the risk of combining statins and fenofibrates, my GP placed me on both medicines, after consulting with his cardio doc friend. I can't remember how long I was on these medications, but I know that I had to stop statins in general, because my body just will not tolerate them. I continued to take Tricor for quite some time.
Avatar m tn Tricor is a Fenofibrate which helps control cholesterol and TGLS by blocking their abosorbtion into your system through your intestinal tract. There is an extremely and I mean EXTREMELY small chance that Tricor can cause Diabetes, but it is extremely rare. How high was you fasting blood sugar level? What does your doctor say? Let us know so we can hellp provide better help.
Avatar n tn Its particularly worse combined with tricor. The pain actually feels like its in my bones at the joints. I have taken tricor for almost 20 years and I just started having this problem about 6-8 months ago. The pain in the morning makes me feel like I am 100 and my body is betraying me! This is what I noticed that changed. I initially started off on the brand name fenofibrate, Tricor - had no problems. Then they added Crestor(name brand) because that was the only people that made it.
Avatar n tn I did research Tricor can cause gallstones. It turns out they are made of cholesterol. My blood pressure med Nadolol (generic Corgard) raises Triglycerides and lowers good cholesterol! Ask for Lovaza it is omega 3. I take 2grams twice a day. Thats 2000mg twice a day. It raises HDL Happy cholesterol. It lowers LDL Lowsey cholesterol, and Triglycerides.
Avatar f tn My Tryglecerides are reading 300 and my cholesterol is over 200, I'm on 145 mg of Tricor and my prescription went up from 20 mg. to 40 mgs of Crestor; I was wondering what the possible side effects of taking these two everyday are. If someone would please write me and let me know. I would truly appreciate it.
237039 tn?1264258057 Last year I had my cholesterol tested after a long stretch without having it checked and my trigs came back at 2174. I had always said no to statins in the past because I had infectious hepatitis (not any type C, caught it from my younger brother) as a child and feared I had liver damage from that. But when the doctor called after that test I decided I would try Tricor. (fenofibrate I think is what it is) I took it for a month, then stopped, then again a month later took it for a month.
Avatar f tn My brother and I both have this and it is totally under control with meds for both of us. My triglycerides were over 2100 before I started taking Tricor. My brother takes Tricor and Lovastatin. Both of us now have normal readings.
1462455 tn?1313081703 Is Lipitor as effective as Tricor in lowering chlorestrol. Significant difference in price? How about Lopid as well?
Avatar n tn In addition to that of course I have to take a statin and Tricor. Good news is that Tricor will have a generic out in May. I was also told by my pharmicist that Plavix has a generic coming out in July. Ask your pharmicist if there is a generic of Niaspan due out any time soon. And as Flycaster has stated, with the Niacin there is a flushing feeling also. It only bothered me if I didn't take an aspirin just before taking the niacin. My doctor told me about that.
Avatar m tn His mother has also a H/o high TG, Cholesterol and BP. Recently she developed Hypothyroidism at age of 56 and then Diabetes mellitus type 2 at age of 59. Now she is 59 years old.Today we did the blood test for my husband and his TG is 519 mg/dl. Now a new develpoment happened is slightly elevated TSH of 4.59, which was normal till 1 year back. So please advice what this indicates?
782988 tn?1242685985 Can you add Tricor That is on of my meds for Cholesterol
529224 tn?1400648219 m living proof. My Cholesterol was very high, and even if I only lived on bread and water my cholesterol would have stayed very high. Statins reduced the cholesterol significantly and with the added medication of Ezetimibe, which slows fat absorption through the gut wall, my cholesterol is way below average now. I've been on these medications since the start of 2007 with no side effects which blood tests have continually confirmed.
1029058 tn?1253539152 Cut the carbs, like sugars, breads and pastas. Also, there are meds like Tricor to help lower your tri's. You can also increase your exercise, that will lower your tri's and increase your HDL, a win, win!
Avatar n tn I am also on Tricor, it has done wonders for me as well. You can come off cholesterol meds. Once you have made the necessary lifestyle changes and your numbers are low, it is not uncommon to come off them for a period to see if you can maintain a health level of cholesterol. Your HDL should be the larger concern.
Avatar m tn Because of my extremely high trigs I take Tricor, but wonder if I should also be taking a statin. My cholesterol is out of whack all across the board. I have heard that taking a statin with Tricor is not wise. Any thoughts on this, Jon?
Avatar f tn My dr told me to come off the Lipitor, so what should I take.?. My body seem to be producing the cholesterol, and the level of the choleserol is down to 179 but the Triglycerides are 259, hence the reason for the crestor and lipitor.. Can anyone suggest anything..
237039 tn?1264258057 My doctor's office called yesterday afternoon to give me the results of my blood work. Seems my triglycerides were so high they weren't able to measure my bad cholesterol. My total cholesterol was over 2,250. That seems impossible, but that's what they told me. He called out Tricor 145 mg for me to start taking. Anyone else ever hear about levels that high?
Avatar m tn I am aged 65 yrs Male.
Avatar m tn You asked if I had Diabetes I have a strong family history of Diabetes and take Tricor for cholesterol (actually high Triglycerides) but get my blood checked every 6 months and sugars levels are never even close to a problem. A peripheral sypmtom I did not mention is the loss of the sense of smell but I have had ongoing sinusitus and sinus surgery over the years.
Avatar n tn s a genetic thing. 2 of my brothers have the same problem. I now take my meds which are Tricor and Pravastatin. But in addition to those I take 500mg of Niacin in the morning and again in the evening. He needs to get that number down because I have had multiple heart attacks from the plaque in my blood. And that comes from the high levels of triglycerides in the blood. That is the fat that causes the plaque to form. The Niacin is a good supplement in treating this.
