Common Questions and Answers about Tricor blood sugar

tricor

Avatar m tn My doctor just started me on Tricor and my blood sugar levels have gone up as well. Prior to being on Tricor, my fasting blood sugar has always been between 89 and 101. Now they range from 119 to 125. Any thoughts on alternative medications to lower high tryglicerides?
Avatar n tn High triglycerides are often a sign of other conditions that increase the risk of heart disease and stroke as well, including obesity and the metabolic syndrome — a cluster of conditions that includes too much fat around the waist, high blood pressure, high triglycerides, high blood sugar and abnormal cholesterol levels. Most doctors recommend 3 1000 MG of fish oil per day.
Avatar n tn August of last year I was put on Tricor and added Diovan 160 in Novemeber, and have always been taking 1000mg of metformin twice a day. Since November my blood sugar has become unmanagable (fasting in 150+ range). Recently I stopped taking Diovan, because I noticed that it appeared that this whole thing started after i took Diovan. I tested my blood sugar and my mornings results for two days were in the 130s and went up to 150 again, so I went back on Diovan per my doctor's insistence.
Avatar n tn To lower them, I would start taking a good, fish oil supplement, a high potency B complex and Vitamin C. Also, cut way back on your sugar intake. Make sure you get exercise as well. After a few months on this regime your numbers should start improving.
Avatar m tn My brother and I take both a statin for our high cholestorol and Tricor for the high trigs. Our blood is so thick with fat we have no choice but to take these meds. On the meds are levels are almost perfect. Without we are doomed. Try doing a search on familial hypercholesterolemia or familial hypertriglyceridemia for more information.
Avatar f tn They tried to put me on all of this medication for slightly elevated blood sugar. I refused. I decided to go off the nuvaring, which I was on only for acne. I felt incredibly better after only a week and after 2 weeks I felt like super woman. I discovered many other issues stemming from nuvaring including shortness of breath and horrible completely out of character mood swings.
237039 tn?1264258057 I had always said no to statins in the past because I had infectious hepatitis (not any type C, caught it from my younger brother) as a child and feared I had liver damage from that. But when the doctor called after that test I decided I would try Tricor. (fenofibrate I think is what it is) I took it for a month, then stopped, then again a month later took it for a month. Then stopped again. My brother jumped all over me this year and is forcing me to take it.
252327 tn?1250183976 Hey everyone, are any of you on synthroid and on Tricor? If you have been reading my posts you will have seen that I have been having problems with shortness of breath and palputations, Thinking it was my synthroid I started adjusting my dose. Then I did have a slight problem with peanut allergies. After not eating peanuts, the breathing problems and palputations continued. Last night I looked up the side effects of tricor ( I started them mid December) by Christmas the problems started.
Avatar n tn Its particularly worse combined with tricor. The pain actually feels like its in my bones at the joints. I have taken tricor for almost 20 years and I just started having this problem about 6-8 months ago. The pain in the morning makes me feel like I am 100 and my body is betraying me! This is what I noticed that changed. I initially started off on the brand name fenofibrate, Tricor - had no problems. Then they added Crestor(name brand) because that was the only people that made it.
Avatar f tn i now walk a mile a day, stayed the same weight for 2 1/2 years, now am starting to loose - took me 3 months but am losing 2lbs a month, take coreg, bumex, all the heart meds. blood pressure is usually 106/68, so it's low. diabetic and have started menopause. my question is this: i had the nuclear stress test done on the treadmill this week. i made 85%, was winded but not out of breath, manage to run/walk like they wanted. i have iscemia from the heart attack.
Avatar n tn I did research Tricor can cause gallstones. It turns out they are made of cholesterol. My blood pressure med Nadolol (generic Corgard) raises Triglycerides and lowers good cholesterol! Ask for Lovaza it is omega 3. I take 2grams twice a day. Thats 2000mg twice a day. It raises HDL Happy cholesterol. It lowers LDL Lowsey cholesterol, and Triglycerides.

Avatar n tn I am a 42 yr old female who can't seem to lose weight. I have recently started Tricor for high triglyceride levels (1200). I have been eating healthy, lots of veggies, and limiting my calories to about 1200 per day. I do a weight loss routine on my treadmill for 30 minutes per day burning @200 calories at least 4-5 times per week. I weigh 173 pounds, which is up 3 pounds from when I started.

Avatar f tn The quickest way for you to cut your TGLs is to stop drinking. Alcohol metabolizes as sugar and increases TGLs. Stop drinking and your number should drop. Also, cut out all empty carbs such as breads and pastas as well.
Avatar m tn I recently had a blood test and did the Gluclose test which I believe was a 2hr test. One of my test results said the normal ALT levels are 0-70 and my level came in at 116. Would these medications have anything to do with the levels: TriCor 145mg Metformin 850mg Lovaza formerly OmaCor 1gm Zetia 10mg Crestor 10mg I read liver issues - the blood count can be 10 to 50x higher than the normal high score (i.e. 70) and also read the meds I am on could also throw the blood counts off a bit.
805943 tn?1238093647 In March of this year I went to my regular physcian for left arm pain, she did an EKG and called an ambulance. At the hospital I had all the test, blood workup, Echo, EKG, they said everything was fine. They did tell me that my sugar and tryglycerides were too high. They sent me home with prescriptions for Lopressor, Lisinipril, Metformin and Tricor. I had a nuclear stress test done in April and it came back fine too. They took me off the Lopressor.
Avatar n tn I was told not to eat or drink for an hour after taking my medication. The info sheet that came with the drug does say not to eat for 30-60 minutes. My question is about coffee with NO cream & sugar. Do I have to wait 30-60 minutes to drink that. It is what I crave when I wake up. The food can wait!
1310757 tn?1273645428 Unfortunately my HDL numbers are correct (highest 938) and I get my blood drawn every month or two. I did not take concern until I did my own research. Different doctors have just commented on how high it was without telling me answers and I never questioned. With Gemfibrozil it is hovering in the high 200's.
Avatar f tn My brother and I both have this and it is totally under control with meds for both of us. My triglycerides were over 2100 before I started taking Tricor. My brother takes Tricor and Lovastatin. Both of us now have normal readings.

Avatar f tn On our follow up visit his Dr told him the tests shows a portion of his heart where there are 3 bypasses is not getting enough blood. Although we realized his recovery was going backwards we were shocked. Teh doctor feels plague is the cause of the problem. My husband resisted his suggestion of doing a cath, so he was given a prescription for Tricor 145mg.
Avatar n tn In addition to that of course I have to take a statin and Tricor. Good news is that Tricor will have a generic out in May. I was also told by my pharmicist that Plavix has a generic coming out in July. Ask your pharmicist if there is a generic of Niaspan due out any time soon. And as Flycaster has stated, with the Niacin there is a flushing feeling also. It only bothered me if I didn't take an aspirin just before taking the niacin. My doctor told me about that.
