212161 tn?1599427282 has anyone or does anyone take this med and if so have you had any side affects thank you
Avatar n tn Also, if you cut empty carbs such as sugars, breads and pastas out of your diet it will help reduce your triglycerides as well. You really want your level below 150 if possible. I am on Tricor and Vytorin, which is just simvastatin and zetia. The Tricor has lowered mine from 333 to 145. I would like to think that my diet and exercise has helped as well!
529224 tn?1400648219 Ed34 and Chatty explain it well. I take Vytorin, which mixes drugs to control both ingested fats and cholesterol manufactured in the liver. I also take 2000 mg of Omega 3 oils to encourage the development of HDL (good) cholesterol. This mix has helped me greatly.
Avatar m tn I used to have a high cholesterol and i have been taking Vytorin for the last 22 days and now my cholesterol is back to normal. However my SGOT increases to 56 and SGPT 100. Is Vytorin causes SGOT and SGPT to increase? Also, i have taken Anti hepatitis 2x. Does this have possibility to increase the SGOT and SGPT?
Avatar m tn My doctor just started me on Tricor and my blood sugar levels have gone up as well. Prior to being on Tricor, my fasting blood sugar has always been between 89 and 101. Now they range from 119 to 125. Any thoughts on alternative medications to lower high tryglicerides?
Avatar m tn He took me off the Vytorin and put me on Zocor with same results. After stopping all meds and getting a colonoscopy and blood tests nothing was found. He now states I have IBS and put me on SSRI Citalopram. HELP! This discussion is related to Possible side effect of Lipitor and Vytorin on Liver / Body.
1846163 tn?1331048748 I am cures Ty on Vytorin and will be starting therapy soon, I have read that someone on a cholesterol lowering drug should not be on this drug. Can you tell me why?
Avatar n tn After 7 years of therapy taking Crestor and Tricor (fenofibrate), I, too, started experiencing intense pain in my legs, feet, back, and arms. My Dr. took me off Crestor last month but the pain returned within a few days, although not as intense as it was prior to my stopping Crestor. I took myself off fenofibrate just a couple of days ago and "Wow" what a difference! I can actually sleep at night and notice that the pain is dissipating more and more each day.
Avatar n tn I have IBS with diarrhea. My family doctor gave me Vytorin and it caused ONE HORRIBLE bout with the diarrea. So, my question is: Should people with IBS not take Vytorin? If the answer is: No,they shouldn't,then why do you think this side effect is not listed on the pamphlet that comes with the drug.....or any where else?!
Avatar n tn If it were me I would give pravastatin a chance, but if I had the same side effects and I could not live with them, I would try something like Zetia. You could also add a fenofibrate like Tricor to lower your TGLs as well, very safe and no side effects. This will help lower your overall number but will not impact your LDL which is you main issue. You really need to get that under 130 with no other risk factors.
Avatar f tn i was taking vytorin and plavix when i was told i have cll .
Avatar f tn Vytorin is a statin that lowers LDL and raises HDL. I believe Vytorin is a combination of Zetia and Zocor. I am not sure if the Vytorin will go with the Niaspam so you will need to ask your doctor that.
Avatar f tn I did talk to doctor last week and he told me to stop Vytorin right away and changed my cholesterol medicine to something else. What you suggest is quite scary as I had a friend who passed away due to Lou Gerig's disesase few years ago. Could taking Vytorin alone cause me to actually develop the disease or just to show the symptoms?
237039 tn?1264258057 t think there would be any correlation between taking the Tricor and vasospams. Is it just coincidence and the fact that they have subsided is because of my diet and exercise? Or is it possible that there is somthing about the Tricor that has stopped them? Anyone know?
252327 tn?1250183976 Hey everyone, are any of you on synthroid and on Tricor? If you have been reading my posts you will have seen that I have been having problems with shortness of breath and palputations, Thinking it was my synthroid I started adjusting my dose. Then I did have a slight problem with peanut allergies. After not eating peanuts, the breathing problems and palputations continued. Last night I looked up the side effects of tricor ( I started them mid December) by Christmas the problems started.
822804 tn?1298226302 Have they suggested taking a statin? My trigs are actually over 2100. I take Tricor to keep these down.
Avatar m tn Reading the many comments I came across one that stated lovastatin is an old medicine and is not used often. After recent cath my doctor changed my medication from vytorin ,have taken vytorin for 5 years, to lovastatin. I did ask for a cheaper medicine and lovastatin was what he came with. I have no problems or side effects . My question is lovastatin less effective then other of the same and if not why is it not used often. My engineering background comes out if I d not have proper data.
Avatar f tn I have been on Vytorin for a few years and my insurance company will not pay for it anymore. My doctor has switched me to Simvastatin (40mg) daily. My question is has anyone else made the switch and have they noticed any side-effects?
Avatar m tn First, why are you taking Lipitor and Vytorin? Those are both "statins" and should never be taken together. You should stop one of these immediately. If you have had elevated CPK's it could be due to the statin and it is questionable whether you should be on one at all. Stop both of those medications and see your doctor immediately--bring your pill bottles. You need to get your medications straight before considering any testing.
Avatar f tn I had a triple bypass in April 05, and like you I have part of my leg in my chest now. I can't really say how long they will last, but I'm not doing to bad. My EF has improved quite a bit and I would probably be doing even better if I exercised (as everyone around me recommends). Prior to my surgery, my 'bad' cholesterol number was 169. I'm not sure what the rest of the numbers were. I started on Litptor but it made me itch - not too good with the blood thinners...
Avatar f tn I did even more research and figured out that I was prescribed Tricor about a month and 1/2 ago. I looked up Tricor's side effects and it seems that there can be a GERD type reaction and one commenter even said they had to go to the ER with chest pains. I stopped taking the Tricor and my GERD symptoms have much improved. I began generic prilosec and it didn't seem to help me. But stopping the Tricor has. My breathing has improved.
Avatar n tn Jack, same here. My TG level is 1900 but with tricor my level now is about 500, which is still quite high. I am not sure what to do now as I cant bring it down further. I am taking statin for my high cholesterol also. And I am feeling fatigue always and weakness in my legs. I used to play football but now, I feel really tired when running. I hope someone can help recommending what to take to reduce my Tg and cholesterol further.
Avatar m tn , 165 lbs, eat well (no red meat or pork, little dairy, etc), and active. My chol is excellent all around (thanks to 10mg of vytorin). Total chol was 215 before, 135 after. My dad had a heart attack at 49, second at 73, he is now 82. I went for stress test and echo last week. Dr said stress was great but he saw a very small calcium deposit on lining of heart muscle, not near arteries. He was not overly concerned and said we just need to watch it during next year's test.
Avatar m tn Yes, dehydration causes a higher creatinine reading.
Avatar n tn In addition to that of course I have to take a statin and Tricor. Good news is that Tricor will have a generic out in May. I was also told by my pharmicist that Plavix has a generic coming out in July. Ask your pharmicist if there is a generic of Niaspan due out any time soon. And as Flycaster has stated, with the Niacin there is a flushing feeling also. It only bothered me if I didn't take an aspirin just before taking the niacin. My doctor told me about that.
745393 tn?1345077196 I have tried a lot of meds for this condition, have taken advicor, lipitor, crestor, zetia, tricor, provastatin, niaspan, gemfibronil. I have been on lovaza (omega 3,and 6 ) for the pass five months, but as you can see it has not helped very much. Heart doctor says I have taken the limit. All of these choles meds causes me to ache in my muscles very very bad, and dr. says this could be a serious situation. I need to know from someone please what can I take now ?. I need very bad to be on some med.
Avatar f tn Hi again, Regarding vytorin, it is a combo of zetia and zocor. There was a study that said that although the Vytorin will lower the cholesterol, it didn't have good effects to prevent heart attacks. Howeverk, Crestor was shown to reduce plaque and had better results in clinical studies. Also, with the Niaspan, it is known to raise HDL level but HDL is not necessarily protective as they thought. But that study may be skewed because it was done on all cardiac patients.
