Common Questions and Answers about Tricor and liver problems

tricor

Avatar n tn After 7 years of therapy taking Crestor and Tricor (fenofibrate), I, too, started experiencing intense pain in my legs, feet, back, and arms. My Dr. took me off Crestor last month but the pain returned within a few days, although not as intense as it was prior to my stopping Crestor. I took myself off fenofibrate just a couple of days ago and "Wow" what a difference! I can actually sleep at night and notice that the pain is dissipating more and more each day.
237039 tn?1264258057 t think there would be any correlation between taking the Tricor and vasospams. Is it just coincidence and the fact that they have subsided is because of my diet and exercise? Or is it possible that there is somthing about the Tricor that has stopped them? Anyone know?
Avatar m tn My doctor just started me on Tricor and my blood sugar levels have gone up as well. Prior to being on Tricor, my fasting blood sugar has always been between 89 and 101. Now they range from 119 to 125. Any thoughts on alternative medications to lower high tryglicerides?
252327 tn?1250183976 Hey everyone, are any of you on synthroid and on Tricor? If you have been reading my posts you will have seen that I have been having problems with shortness of breath and palputations, Thinking it was my synthroid I started adjusting my dose. Then I did have a slight problem with peanut allergies. After not eating peanuts, the breathing problems and palputations continued. Last night I looked up the side effects of tricor ( I started them mid December) by Christmas the problems started.
Avatar m tn I often have red wine after dinner, that is a tradition my wife and have enjoyed for 49 years, and certainly my liver is feeling just fine, and blood tests confirm that. Take the statin and let the blood tests sort out the liver issue. I refused taking statins until aggressive CAD caused all my stents. Since taking a statin since 2007, I've had no problems.
Avatar n tn After a while on Tricor alone, I found out by trial and error that I had to stop Tricor for a couple of weeks to be able to walk around without general muscle aches and fatigue, or "flu-like symptoms, and then I would take it for 8 - 10 days and have to stop again. Bottom line is that I can no longer tolerate Tricor, which drastically lowered my triglycerides from over 2000 to around 1000. Diet changes after a heart attack and stroke keep my triglycerides around 700.
Avatar n tn High cholesterol runs in my family so even with diet and exercise my numbers are still a little high. I started getting heart palpitations a few years ago and after a lot of testing was told they were harmless PVC's/PAC's. Well, I stoped taking my Tricor and Zocor for a few months and my heart palps were gone. The problem is that my cholesterol numbers went back up. I started back on the statins and low and behold the palps returned.
Avatar n tn No no history of cholesterol problems, I have been eating totally healthy and have had just about zero bad stuff. Very frustrating for sure. I will keep eating and excercising, how long before I should have a follow up lipid panel to see if I am getting anywhere?
Avatar f tn I had a bad reaction to the statins- ended up in the hospital with very high liver enzymes. Recently, I have been getting very lightheaded and experiencing pain in my upper arms. My doctor refered me to a cardiologist who performed the heart ultrasound and the holter which came back normal. The stress test however was abnormal- 1 millimeter st segment depression. My cardiologist would like to a heart cathetrization and possibly insert stents.
212161 tn?1599427282 has anyone or does anyone take this med and if so have you had any side affects thank you
745393 tn?1345077196 I have tried a lot of meds for this condition, have taken advicor, lipitor, crestor, zetia, tricor, provastatin, niaspan, gemfibronil. I have been on lovaza (omega 3,and 6 ) for the pass five months, but as you can see it has not helped very much. Heart doctor says I have taken the limit. All of these choles meds causes me to ache in my muscles very very bad, and dr. says this could be a serious situation. I need to know from someone please what can I take now ?. I need very bad to be on some med.
Avatar n tn 61 VLDL 52 So I thought for sure eating plant based and exercise would help get these in line but apparently not. What can I do to lower the triglycerides and raise the HDL? I also have MVP if it matters. Oh and my ALT for my liver function a few years ago was like 91 which was due to the fatty liver now it IS 49 so it looks like the liver might be getting better, so what would still be causing the others to be out of whack. I am really concerned.
822804 tn?1298226302 Have they suggested taking a statin? My trigs are actually over 2100. I take Tricor to keep these down.
Avatar m tn In your case, the most likely cause is your medications because you are on several cholesterol medications that can cause liver test abnormalities, especially when used together. This may not be just cut-and-dry though--liver tests are to be addressed but your overall cholesterol situation may be more serious than the liver issue and warrant those medications. Definitely speak with your doctor about it, the possibility of the meds as a cause, and other options that are available to you.
529224 tn?1400648219 Ed34 and Chatty explain it well. I take Vytorin, which mixes drugs to control both ingested fats and cholesterol manufactured in the liver. I also take 2000 mg of Omega 3 oils to encourage the development of HDL (good) cholesterol. This mix has helped me greatly.
Avatar n tn I take 5mg Norvasc with 100 mg of a beta blocker(Lopressor) and Isosorbide (Nitrate) and Tricor every morning without any problems. But I am confused as to why Norvasc and Cardizem. They are both calcium channel blockers. Maybe someone can enlighten me on that. Have you talked to your pharmacist about any concerns?
1310757 tn?1273645428 I was diagnosed as having familial hypercholesterolemia. Even if I eat just fruit and veg my Liver goes nuts at producing cholesterol lipids. I think I inherited it from my Mother who didn't get heart problems until 80, mine started much earlier. Thank goodness we have statins or my arteries would be solid lumps of plaque by now. I think Triglycerides are made from carbs we eat?
Avatar m tn org/wiki/Benign_prostatic_hyperplasia Cholesterolemia basically means a Liver which is hyperactive at creating fat Lipids and pumping them into the blood stream. Statin medication is very good at getting this under control. COPD Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease http://en.wikipedia.
739988 tn?1386672969 I know the meds we all take have many side effects. I was wondering if any of the meds cause severe acne problems. I am in my 30s and still have acne problems. Please help.
Avatar f tn I did even more research and figured out that I was prescribed Tricor about a month and 1/2 ago. I looked up Tricor's side effects and it seems that there can be a GERD type reaction and one commenter even said they had to go to the ER with chest pains. I stopped taking the Tricor and my GERD symptoms have much improved. I began generic prilosec and it didn't seem to help me. But stopping the Tricor has. My breathing has improved.
Avatar m tn Yes, dehydration causes a higher creatinine reading.
Avatar n tn In addition to that of course I have to take a statin and Tricor. Good news is that Tricor will have a generic out in May. I was also told by my pharmicist that Plavix has a generic coming out in July. Ask your pharmicist if there is a generic of Niaspan due out any time soon. And as Flycaster has stated, with the Niacin there is a flushing feeling also. It only bothered me if I didn't take an aspirin just before taking the niacin. My doctor told me about that.
Avatar m tn You asked if I had Diabetes I have a strong family history of Diabetes and take Tricor for cholesterol (actually high Triglycerides) but get my blood checked every 6 months and sugars levels are never even close to a problem. A peripheral sypmtom I did not mention is the loss of the sense of smell but I have had ongoing sinusitus and sinus surgery over the years.
952934 tn?1248948744 I see three posts from you that to my reading deal with related or same issues and problems. As I said on one of those, I know you have the strength to work your way out of these horrendous health problems. That said, I don't think most of the people who visit this forum have a lot of knowledge about dealing with pain. You may get some help in that area by making a post on the MedHelp Pain Management Community. http://www.medhelp.
4152590 tn?1350772856 One other problem I have had is gas and diarrhea... And I mean BAD! I also have lots of memory problems... Good luck to you and I pray Alls well!
1383377 tn?1279384982 I am an alcolic...and about 2 weeks ago, my doctor took tests on my liver and the results came back very bad, especially for my age(23). Apparently my liver is seriously damaged. I haven't drank since I heard the news but what I want to know is...if I get a new tattoo....can my damaged liver prevent it from healing right? I know the liver filters the toxins in your body and helps you recover, but would my liver affect my new tattoo in any way? Does anybody have any idea??
