I'm usually on the Maternal and Child Health forum because I had a baby girl last year. But my question is more about women's health so, here I am :)
I'm on birth control pills called Tri-sprintec. It's the generic of Ortho Tri-cyclen. I stopped taking them for a little while partly because my partner and I really have no time to be intimate and it's hard for me to remember to take them everyday. Anyhow, I started taking them again two months ago.
I used to take tri-lo-sprintec tablet generic for (ortho tri-cyclen LO) for the past 6 six years, but in Michigan we do not have it in generic form anymore. Therefore this month i started taking Eth estradi/norgestimate and I feel very lazy and sleepy all the time and I see that I have been gaining weight. My question is is what I am taking now the same as what I was taking before because that is what the pharmacy told me?
Just kidding... I am on Tri-Sprintec, not Ortho-Tri-Cyclen Lo. I don't know if it makes a difference though.
Yesterday my dermatologist prescribed me 25mg Spironolactone 2xD and Tri-Sprintec BCP to help clear my skin up. I trust her judgement with placing me on both of those medications, but what worries me is that it may be too much of a hormone change for my body. I know that birth control pills increase estrogen levels in the body and that spironolactone is an antiandrogen drug, and naturally the body will replace androgens with estrogen.
Here is the comparison between Sprintec vs. Tri-Sprintec. Yes, Sprintec contains the same level of hormones as in the third week of the Tri Sprintec (Day 15-21). Sprintec has the same amount of hormones for the 3 weeks of active pills, while the Tri-Sprintec increases in norgestimate each week.
Sprintec®:
Day 1-21: Ethinyl estradiol 0.035 mg and norgestimate 0.25 mg (28s) [21 blue tablets]
Day 22-28: 7 white inactive tablets (28s)

I am currently taking Tri-Sprintec, and a week before and after my period I do not have discharge. However, the other two weeks, I have excessive discharge daily. I've talked to my MD about it and she thinks that since I don't have any other crazy side effects or issues besides the discharge, then I should basically deal with it. Because If I go onto another birth control I might have worse side effects etc.

I am 21 years old and on oral contraception (Tri Lo Sprintec) and have been on the same one for the last 9 months with next to no irregular bleeding, in fact it had made my period shorter. 2 weeks ago I started bleeding before I even started the inactive pills and it is still continuing. Relatively no cramps or any other side effects aside from the heavy bleeding. I took several pregnancy tests to see if maybe I was unknowingly pregnant and miscarrying, but they were all negative.
After 5 years on it, she switched from Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo to Ortho Tri Cyclen in May. (She had breakthrough bleeding, no serious side effects.) When she switched, she hasn't found me attractive and is severely questioning whether we're meant to be together. I went to the gyno yesterday and was given Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo to help regulate my periods. I have not had a period since March 2008. My doc told me to begin my first month of pills on the Sunday following the beginning of my next period. Problem is, i don't have any idea when that could be. My next cycle was regular 28days. One day 1 of my period I started tri-sprintec, but discontinued it after 3 pills. This month my period is now going on 5 days late and 2 pregnancy tests have been negative. Is this normal? I did have unprotected sex during this month, but my husband did not ejaculate inside of me. About 3 months ago, I asked if there was a cheaper alternative because I was paying $50 a month for Ortho Lo. I started taking Tri-Sprintec, a generic version with increased estrogen.) I missed my period the second month and in the last week of the third month I started experiencing a lot of anxiety and depression. I have never experienced these things before in my life. I went to the doctor immediately and they chose to put me back on the Ortho Lo.
) So I guess my question is if this is side effects from my new birth control. And i took an at home pregnancy test today, which came back negative, but it was a dollar general brand 1$ test. :| Help please!?!

ok...i'm 23 years old and not looking to have a child. i have been on tri sprintec birth control pill for about 4 months...current pack i'm on is my 4th pill pack. so far it has been great...no bad side effects...but now i'm freaking out a little. i'm on my week 2 pills and just experienced probably less than a teaspoon amount of blood when i wiped after going to the bathroom.
