Tramadol for oxycontin withdrawal

Common Questions and Answers about Tramadol for oxycontin withdrawal

Avatar n tn I got real depressed with lots of pain and started to take them again. I'd like to get off and heard of tramadol helping. Suboxone withdrawal was awful for me. This site makes tramadol sound like a bad idea. Beginning to think I have to go away or go to rapid detox.
Avatar n tn Hello - I've been using oxycontin recreationally for about a year. Let me preface this by saying that i've never used over 80mg (in any one sitting, anyways). usually, my routine would be to take half of it, and then over the course of the day i'd finsh it little by little. no surprise that the frequency of use has increased over the past year.
Avatar f tn That's another med I'm on that I want to get off, as with all the other meds I'm on, as none are working any more for what they were prescribed for in the first place. I have to deal with tramadol withdrawal first though. Anyway, I'm on 20mg oxycontin morning, and 30mg afternoon, plus oxycodone 5-10mg for breakthrough pain. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread, so as to find advice from those who have been weaned off this disgusting and dangerous drug.
Avatar f tn I have been on Oxycontin for 2 years and am going to try quitting cold turkey. Anyone know the best way to quit cold turkey?? any suggestions will help greatly.
Avatar n tn I went thru oxycontin withdrawals in 2003, it was 3 long weeks of full blown withdrawals non stop. But right afterwards, i healed fast. This is my secong time, with oxycodone, and even tho, the withdrawals only lasted about 9 days, the aftermath nis horrendeous. Mental depression, anxiety which is finally tapering off in the last 2 days ( today 32 days clean), and my physcial pains are intensified right now about a gazillion!
Avatar f tn A friend of mine gave me her Tramadol to try and I was assured that she had been taking it on and off for years with O withdrawal. I took it for almost 2 months while grieving the loss of my dog. I decided on Monday to stop all together and could not believe how awful I feel. NOTHING like coming off of Oxy, but still extremeley uncomfortable and "couch bound", flu symptoms and horrible headache. I could not believe it.
Avatar n tn check for oxycontin on the majority of drug screens..Go to this web site and you will see that drug test only look for by-products of morphine i.e. morphine, codine, and heroin..The site which is a gov't site put out by D.O.T. says that they do "NOT" test for synthetic opiates.Synthetic opiates i.e., hydrocodone(lorcet, vicodin),oxycodone( Tylox,Percodan,Percocet, and Oxycontin),hydromorphone(Dilaudid),Nubain,Stadol,Talwin,Darvocet,etc.. The web site is
332572 tn?1195513822 I fell from a ladder from about 25 feet onto the concrete and broke my left humerous and had to have extensive surgery. I was placed on oxycontin with percocet for break thru pain and had one heck of a time getting off of them and was transitioned to Tramadol (Big Mistake) OH they SAY its not habit forming, but they don't know what they are talking about. I have taper down from 400 mg to 100 mg a day and just stopped last night. I am in terrible withdrawal and the leg pain is unbearable.
Avatar n tn I don't even know if any of the normal therapies for managing withdrawal would work for tramadol, but I've somewhere down the road anyway. I just wish I knew how long it would all take. It's so muc easier to be in a hard place if you know when it's going to end. I guess I'm paying for my pain free months this month. I am trying to manage it with kratom to have days that are at least partially productive. I'm hoping I'll get some feedback on that as well. Good luck keeping yourself off drugs.
Avatar m tn Also the DEA just moved it to the controlled substance schedule.
Avatar f tn I want to get off everything now while its still short term but I cant seem to do it because of the discomfort of the withdrawal. My question is this;if I take this Tramadol (50 mg pills) for the next few days, will it make it easier to get off the opiates? And will I have withdrawal from the Tramadol if I only use it in low doses for a short time? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn i had no energy and felt as if i could do nothing, each little thing was a hurdle.i had back surgery in march of 2005 and was given oxycontin, percoset and darvoset for the pain post surgery.i took it as prescribed and was proud i came thru without a brings me to the present.
Avatar m tn I am nervous of what's to come for me in the next 48 hours though. I know the withdrawal symptoms are coming for me. I can't wait till Monday, I'm sure I should be level on 7 per day by then, I just have to resist taking over 7 today and tomorrow. Which is kinda hard of course. I have not exactly been getting any real enjoyment from Tramadol in the last four (4) weeks at all. Which is good, I'm letting go! I'm just trying to stay motivated, for I am doing this all by myself.
Avatar n tn I've seen some treatment centers advertise that they use tramadol to help with opiate withdrawal, yet I've also read that taking tramadol during opiate withdrawal can INCREASE withdrawal symptoms. Can someone set me straight on this? Thanks in advance.
Avatar n tn Hello Andrew, I'm sure you have probably received replies to your posting by now, but I thought I should let you know about my experience with Ultram (tramadol). I was taking Ultram for about 6 months, right after its introduction, for lower back pain from 2 spinal surgeries. During this time, I was also suffering from depression. I was prescribed elevil (tricyclic antidepressant) along with Ultram. These two meds didn't mix!
Avatar f tn I'm on day 6 of withdrawal of 2x40 mg a day for the last four months, I did take more at times and really feared getting addicted so I quit cold turkey last Saturday, it's been hell on earth. I'm now on day 6 and still sick but more emotionally (very depressed with periods of anxiety) I'm taking clonipine which was prescribed at emerge where I also got a shot of morphine to stop the tremors.
1697690 tn?1329127238 I have been using for like 4 and a half years now, I used to be pretty social and would go out a lot and drink and do coke and then one day its like I traded it all in for oxycontin and got so addicted it was shocking. Id never really been addicted to something before the way ive become addicted to oxy. Its literally taken over my life and I want so bad to stop it. Thanks for the suggestions on vitamins, i have 5-HTP that I will take and some valerian root and melatonin so I will try all those.
Avatar m tn Hello. I was prescribed tramadol for rheumatoid arthritis around 1 year ago. Recently i decided that i was feeling pretty good and would like to try stopping this medication. I was concerned about the long term effects of this medication on my system and all the rest of it. I had noticed that if i ever missed a dose of tramadol that i would begin to feel terrible and this concerned me and is also part of the reason for me wanting to stop it.
Avatar f tn I'm trying to get my husband ready for a major detox off of Tramadol starting on Saturday. I was "trying" to taper him down from 20+ pills a day to at least 10 before we cut CT, but again, his addiction won out and he found a way to get more pills.
Avatar f tn Yes, I have experience. And I got addicted to tramadol. You can have a seizure if you take too much of it too. The thing is that the WDs are the only way to get free of the oxy. You can take tram for the WDs, but when you stop the tram, you will have to go through them then! There are things you can do to help the symptoms without getting another addictive substance involved. Good luck! You can do this! You will get a lot of help here.
2108228 tn?1339865842 Hi, question for you, you say you have stage 3 colon cancer, are you taking the pills for pain or for the high? If it's for pain with cancer, I'm not sure this is the best time for you to stop. You are not taking that much, talk to your doctor first and see what he/she recommends that you do for now. Best of luck.
Avatar m tn I haven't felt any nausea, diarrhea, yawning, teary eyes yet. I do have Tramadol and Xanax for legitimate conditions i obtained in the army however. I heard about tapering off of Oxycontin but i wanted to try and quit cold turkey since i haven't been using as long as some people. Would it help if i take a Tramadol or a Xanax for the anxiety? What are some things i can do?
Avatar m tn I've been abusing Oxycontin 20's for about 6 months now but the well ran dry 3 days ago. I was taking 2 to 3 per day and biting them in half to bypass the time release. I haven't had any in almost a full 72 hours and so far there's been virtually no symptoms whatsoever. I'm not substituting anything to take the edge off with the exception of one 350mg "Soma" taken before bed to help with the potential insomnia.
244884 tn?1189759429 Then my wife got into an accident and was prescribed for a short time Oxycontin which is how she got onto them. Then as my brother showed us how we could snort Oxycontin as opposed to chewing them. That's when it really turned bad for us, I didn't want to chew or take percs or tabs anymore, but only SNORT SNORT SNORT. So now I come to the time where I want to stop again, like I did before, but I know the habit I have now is way more than I had before.
Avatar f tn The Tramadol WILL help with the withdrawals, just not in a way that you'll like when you start reducing your Tramadol dose. My Tramadol withdrawal was 10 times worse than my 100mg a day Oxy habit withdrawal...and even worse than my Sub withdrawal. It's not nearly the benign drug the manufacturer or Doctors make it out to be.
15290316 tn?1447026708 I had no problem with transitioning from Oxycontin to Tramadol because I tapered way down on the Oxy. The Tramadol was okay in managing my pain, but over the past week, I've had terrible headaches. The headache is there 24/7. Does anyone have experience with this and know if the Tramadol is causing them? I didn't take any yesterday or today because I don't want to get physically dependent on them.
Avatar m tn I had only been taking tramadol for one month at 2 50mg pills twice daily and then stopped as I no longer felt I needed it and suddenly starting experiencing all the anxiety, insomnia, mood swings and all the other crap we know comes with these withdrawals. So after going back on to confirm it was withdrawals from the Tramadol (which I was led to believe was non habit forming or dangerous!
439522 tn?1214954789 1 clonidine to help with the physical withdrawal symptoms as we move down. But, today he prescribed me tramadol...with lots of refills and for long term use. I had never heard of it, and the point was that I decided it was time to move off opiates and try some other non-narcotic pain relievers. I can't use NSAIDS due to GERD (I take nexium for it), and didn't even think twice about the tramadol (ultram). Now I'm reading places that it acts on one of the three mU receptors, and is addictive.
637613 tn?1281043164 Tramadol also works by enhancing the activity of neurotransmitters in the brain and spinal cord. Neurotransmitters are chemical compounds that act as chemical messengers between the nerve cells. Tramadol enhances the effect of the neurotransmitters serotonin and noradrenaline, and this action also helps relieve pain.
