Common Questions and Answers about Topamax thinning hair

topamax

Avatar f tn Topamax has a few side effects that are not the greatest (makes me a little tired, reduces my sex drive, thinning hair, very expensive) but for it to HELP tame the beast inside me its been worth it. Are there any long term side effects I should be aware of? I have tried to go down in dose but my cravings and desire to purge comes back.

Avatar f tn I was on Topamax for about 3 years for sever migraines and saw nothing different with my thyroid problems. I researched Topamax and here are all of the possible side effects (doesn't look like your hair loss or thyroid problems can be attributed to Topamax): Autonomic Nervous System Disorders: Infrequent: vasodilation. Body as a Whole: Frequent: syncope. Infrequent: abdomen enlarged. Rare: alcohol intolerance.
Avatar f tn I'm almost 9wks and I was just wondering if anyone has experienced thinning hair. Mine seems to be a little thinner right in the front. And I'm not sure if this is normal or if it's caused by another reason.
Avatar n tn All my life I've been told that I have thick hair. I'm 21, Asian, male; for the past few years I've been noticing that I have thinner hair on the right side of my scalp. When I run my hand gently through my hair I notice that hair falls out WAY easier than the left side of my head. I'm not shedding clumps of hair, it's just my right side of the scalp sheds more in comparison to the left. Is this something normal? I've been stressing about this a lot!
Avatar m tn Well, yes, it would be some time before you actually notice that your hair is thinning. The low iron could be due to chronic blood loss due to piles. Post surgery, may be this was not corrected. Also, additional low vitamin D could be contributing to hair fall—and this may be a recent development or may be persisting. To improve the quality of hair, you’ll need to take iron and vitamin D supplements and improve your diet to include healthy meals. Take care!
Avatar f tn Are you on meds for PCOS? As I understand it, being on meds and losing weight, help to control all the symptoms of PCOS, including thinning hair. I myself haven't tried any products, but I wish you good luck with that, honey!
1300834 tn?1273123354 My hair has been thinning for about 4 years now. I honestly can't tell if its halted. I think it has at least slowed cause over the past year I haven't noticed in increase in the view of myscalp. I can't get any confirmation from my hairdresser or my doctors because my job had me moving around a lot and I've never had a consistent hair dresser or doctor for more than a few years.
Avatar n tn My hair has been thinning for the last five years I am 59 years ,through menopause ....whats up ? Maybe iron or iodine defecency?
Avatar m tn After around 6 months i could see my scalp.Taking a closer look it appeared red and the hair was thinning especially in the mid scalp region.I could also scratch some white crust with my nail.I had moderate itching. After some months i had extreme itching and a burning sensation like ants crawling and i could sense warmth. The scalp was really red so i went to dermatologist.I think he said i had pytiriasis.I was given ketekonazole and nizoral and after 1 month of treatment the symptoms were gone.
Avatar n tn Ive heard its common to lose hair AFTER pregnancy but has anyone had or is having hair loss while expecting??
Avatar m tn Thyroid hair loss would be all over - as in thinning throughout the hair for general thinning, while pattern baldness would be thinning in certain spots. At least, that is what happened to me.
Avatar m tn I started on 40mg of prednisone a day in the beginning of January. Then was put on Topamax about five weeks ago. At that point, my hair started falling out three times more than before. I'm talking my hands are covered every time I wash it, plus there is hair all over the bathroom floor, counter top, etc., by the time I'm done in there. It's getting really, really thing. I've been off the Topamax for two weeks almost, and it's still falling out heavily.
284078 tn?1282616698 I hope anyone who uses Topamax for any reason is fully aware of the serious risk of acute narrow angle glaucoma. I had read several articles about it but saw it firsthand last week. As usual on my quiet weekend off I got the dreaded call from the emergency room, again. This time about a woman on Topamax for 7 days who seemed to have lost almost all her vision 12 hours after increasing her dose per her doctor's instructions.
Avatar m tn She squeezed it and extracted it like a blackhead. Now he has a patch of thinning hair around the same area where he had the ingrown hair. His pediatrician told us she wasn't sure what it was but it might be a reaction to the ingrown hair (which might have been an infection) or alopecia areata and to wait a few months to see what happens.
Avatar n tn I started taking it in conjunction w/my Gabapentin, in the hopes that I could reduce the amount of Gabapentin I was taking as it was causing me weight gain. The Topamax did work well to control my nerve pain, but about 4-5 months in, my hair started falling out! I researched this & was shocked at the number of ppl this had happened to! And sadly, it appears to be permanent, even after getting off of Topamax. My hair stopped falling out, but what I lost has never grown back.
Avatar f tn As Dr. O says, do have yourself checked out by an opthalmologist. If he does not find blepharitis, there are other factors to consider. Since you have always had plenty of eyelashes, you might not be aware of any asymmetry in that department, but I'm very fair, with fine, light hair and I have noticed with the passage of time that one side of my head has slightly more hair than the other (weird, huh?), and interestingly the side with more hair has thicker eyelashes.
