4014307 tn?1349055699 I cant remember if I took my topamax.
Avatar f tn Thanks for answering. I've been on Topamax for about 6 months for migraines and supposed fibromyalgia, and since then some of my thyroid type symptoms seem to be escalating? I am trying to reach out to others to see if there is a link to the medication, or if perhaps you really have to be predisposed to thyroid disease in the first place for something to happen. I have a strong family history of thyroid disease (autoimmune mostly).
Avatar f tn Anti-depressants are also pain relievers. Epilim is for seizures or is used off-licence by specialists as a mood stabiliser for treating people with the psychiatric illness, bipolar affective disorder. Am I correctly assuming that the neurologist took away your pain relievers? You could certainly use other pain relievers which is odd if they have not been prescribed for you. Have you been prescribed a daily preventative medication to prevent migraines?
Avatar m tn Ecspecially with children, anyway, how does phenobarbitol work to stop the pain of a migraine??? At the moment I am only on Topamax and take tramadol for fibromyagia, so I use that for the migraines as well. Triptains give me sever heart palapitations and cause my stomach and colon to bleed so they are not an option??? Any feedback???
Avatar f tn It could be those that had a hair loss issue also had a thyroid issue and assumed it was the topamax......????
Avatar n tn He is currently taking Topamax (37.5 mg), Desoxyn (5 mg), Tenex (1 mg), Abilify (1.25 mg), Prozac (1 ml), and Zyrtec... My question is... is this to much? I have let my ex-wife handle this for a long time... I don't believe that he needs all of this medicine. I think he is taking way to much... he is starting to have a real hard time and doesnt like the medicine or the way it makes him feel.
Avatar n tn Hi I would also like to comment as well.... I am taking topamax and I take it for migrane prevention.. and not for seizures....Should we still be wearing a medical alert even tho we do not have seizures>?
Avatar m tn I would ask for an alternative medicine. Topamax causes hair loss which I have experienced first hand. I found out that that is one of the main side effects and wish I hadn't taken it. I would look on the internet for medications that treat migraines and look at all of the side effects. I have found I have to be proactive and do my research and ask the doctor about a specific medication.
Avatar m tn t really want to resort to vicodin again either unless it was the last option since careless use of it was what got me in this mess in the first place.
Avatar f tn I used to take Topamax for nerver pain, it was the only anti-seizure med that really worked well for the pain, and I had three attacks of kidney stones before I found out it was the Topamax causing them. I had to stop taking it, but was wondering if anyone else ever had this problem. I did a little research on it and in a small percentage of people it actually does do this, but my urologist only knew of one other person who took Topamax and had kidney stones.
Avatar f tn I had periorbital migraines and was placed on Topamax, technically an anti-seizure but also great for migraine/headache control and mood stabilization in bipolar disorder. That for a while was the only thing that worked for me. It can have a sedative and appetite suppressant effect. I was also shortly on a low dose of Elavil for migraines. Carefull with that one, take only the amount prescribed.
Avatar f tn The pain kept getting worse and worse so I finally saw a nurse practitioner about 2 months ago and she put me on Topamax. I starting taking it and the headaches slowly dulled if anything and then a new pain started at the base of my skull by the middle of my lower neck. I had to recently stop taking the Topamax because I found out I was pregnant.
Avatar f tn I have a lot of co-workers at a call center who have also tried topamax but say its not usefull and hated the side effects so they stopped.
Avatar f tn I have been off Topamax for approx. 8 months and was wondering if I began to take Topamax again would it help with weight loss or once it has leveled off it will no longer aid in weight loss? I currently take Maxalt for headaches only as needed so the Topamax was only used as an anti-seizure med. Please let me know so that I can discuss this with my neurologist about adding Topamax back into my daily routine. Thank you, any help you could give would be wonderful.
Avatar f tn I am bipolar, have chronic migraines, and doing IVF. I use lithium and lamictal for my mood stabilizers and will stay on them through my pregnancy. The tentative plan is to add topamax after baby for the migraines and an added mood stabilizer boost. I am loving the possible side effect of weight loss as I am overweight, but I would be devastated if I lose my hair. I may have a migraine everday but they're not so bad I would hand over my hair for relief.
1103688 tn?1257894552 First off I think that increasing the Topamax to 100mg if possible would be a good place to start since you have said that the Topamax has greatly reduced the number of severe headaches you get. The normal dose of Topamax for migraine prevention is 100mg, so taking it at the regular dose might greatly improve your situation.
681148 tn?1437661591 Just like Tracy (rudyhorse) said, it takes a while to get up to the proper dosage. According to the clinical trials for topamax use for migraine headaches, 100mg is the standard dose for preventative migraine relief (although like Tracy pointed out, different people sometimes get put on different doses depending on their own situation)... but 100mg can take a few weeks or even a few months to get up to.
Avatar n tn I use topamax 125mg daily for preventative therapy. I also use 400mg of B2 daily for preventative therapy. To supplement acute therapy, I use naproxen (a prescription NSAID). As for some suggestions... yeah... what DrNoopurMD said!
Avatar f tn Today is my second day of taking topamax for migraine. As soon as i took one i started feeling very strange. I am having very bad nausea, dry mouth, wired taste, headaches and dizziness. Can anyone tell me are these normal symptoms when taking topamax and how long are they going to last? I am only taking 25mg a day right now.
Avatar m tn Hello, A moderate drug interaction occurs between Topamax and yaz. Efficacy of oral contraception may be decreased by concomitant use with topiramate. You have to use additional birth control measure. Also There may be changes in the bleeding patterns. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps.
1655289 tn?1326042889 Topamax does tend to cause weight loss, but trust me, this is not the way you want to lose weight. Topamax (I was taking it for bipolar) first of all did nothing for my moods. I was back in the hospital a few months after first being prescribed this, along with seroquel and ativan for panic and anxiety. That's not what makes this medicine so undesirable though. With each dose increase, I had numbness in my legs and arms. This could continue for as long as 2 weeks after a dose increase.
